This cupcakery is actually together in the same store as a yogurt shop. When asked if they bake on the premises, the clerk told me the cupcakes are delivered daily at 10am from the Arden store. I tried the Red Velvet and was disappointed… no chocolate taste at all. It was moist however. The frosting was alright. I also chose the 10K Carrot Cake which had more flavor to it. Can taste the carrot there. Frosting was OK. Didn’t really help my cupcake cravings =(It made me miss Teacake in Emeryville all the more.

The first time I had a cup cake from Cupcake Craving I was blown away. They are so cute and so yummy. We ordered a bunch for my sister’s baby shower instead of cake and they where a hit! Everyone loved them and they added a touch of elegance to the event. All their flavors are yummy but my favorites are their carrot cake, red velvet, and Chocolate fix. It’s so much fun to go in after a day of shopping and snack on something yummy. Everyone that works there is super friendly and helpful.

With all the craze of cupcake boutiques opening in Sac, I felt the need to taste what all the frenzy was about over gourmet cupcakes that cost an arm and a leg. This Cupcake Craving is located in a mini strip mall in the Pocket Area. You can’t see it from the streets and probably wouldn’t know it is there. I resisted the temptation of possibly baked goodness each time I went to Bel Air, but the other day I just had to check it out… now that it shares the store with a yogurt shop(which has the stupidest name of Dude, Where’s My Yogurt?). It was a busy Friday evening around 8pm. I think most of the crowd was there for the yogurt. I bought a chocolate cupcake and a red velvet cupcake. I didn’t realize after I had paid the cashier overcharged me. The regular chocolate cupcake is $ 2 and the gourmet red velvet cupcake is $ 2.50, but I was charged $ 2.50 for the reg. choco one. I didn’t feel like making a fuss for $.50 since the place was pretty busy and the line was getting long. The overall taste of the cupcakes were just alright. The choco one was definitely chocolatey. This was my first time having red velvet, so I cannot compare to anything. The cakes tasted a little stale, which I was surprised b/c the website says cakes are baked throughout the day. I took off all the butter cream frosting and just dabbed back on a little to the cake so the cakes wouldn’t be so dry. I felt as though I was just paying for butter cream. I like cake… but not lathered with frosting. When I initially picked up the cupcakes, they felt so heavy… when I took off the frosting the cake felt like it weighed next to nothing. I would’ve appreciated a bigger cupcake with less frosting. This place needs a better cake to frosting ratio… It’s Cupcake Craving, not Frosting Craving. Overall, I’ve had better cakes. If you like a little dry cake to go with your butter cream, then come here.

Cupcake Craving definitely helped me kill my cupcake craving! My usual cupcake pick is Red Velvet. Cupcake Craving’s version had killer crème cheese frosting but I wished it had more chocolate flava. My friend’s fave was the Monkey Mania.(I think mostly because of the cute monkey face candy on top.) It was banana cake with caramel inside but neither of these flavors were strong enough for me. My fave was the Lemon Boost. Lemon-y taste in spades and perfect for summer! The lemon cake had gooey lemon curd in the middle and a pile of sweet lemon frosting on top. The whole thing was a bright sunshine-y yellow. Thanks to my cupcake enablers!
