Johnny Boy’s Pancake House

Came here the other weekend looking for a new spot for breakfast and after hearing how great Johnny Boy’s was I had to come and check it out for myself. I called ahead to see if there was a wait and there was so it was a good thing I called ahead to beat some of the wait.
We arrived, walked inside to see a very packed waiting area leaving us with nowhere to sit. Good thing I called ahead and didn’t have to wait too long. The hostess was a very nice woman who showed us to our seats, a young man came over and brought us coffee and drinks. My friend was excited they served alcohol here and got herself a bloody mary. For breakfast I ordered the gut buster which comes with pancakes, toast, bacon, sausage links, home fries, and two eggs to your liking. I really enjoyed their bacon and sausage and the home fries were delicious! Service could of been a little better but granted they were busy. I have experienced better breakfast in the area but I’m happy I tried it out for myself.

Two words: banana pancakes. Johnnyboys is exactly what you’re looking for when it comes to a breakfast spot: comfortable, quick, affordable, and fucking delicious.

For one, the toast was black and as soon as we got our food we were rushed with the bill. that ruined the atmosphere immediately. Our waitress was pushy and rude. I think the best service we got was when we got our boxes to leave and bring the food home. Over all I was disappointed. the food was very good, but not worth the service.

This is a very popular breakfast spot in Rutland, so be prepared for a wait! Also be aware that they will not seat a party until everyone is present. They have huge portions of both sweet and savory breakfast options at reasonable prices. Reasonably quick service. Food was pretty good, and they have a fairly extensive menu. However, I came here with my 95-​year-​old grandmother, and there were a couple less-​than-​ideal aspects. First, the handicapped parking spaces were out front, but that door was locked, so we then had to walk her around the side and up some steps. (We did realize later we could exit that way, so could have sent someone through initially to open it, but not great planning on their part.) Secondly, she was sitting (the other patrons were lovely and kindly made room for her) while we waited for our last car to arrive; once they did and the hostess was informed, she indicated our table as if we should go, so we got Grandma up (not the easiest of feats, and it is fairly obvious), then she said actually it was going to be a few minutes to finish setting the table. There was no reason that Grandma could not have gone and sat down right away, and it seemed a bit inconsiderate. Overall, a reasonable breakfast spot, but I’m not sure it’s worth the wait and they may not be the most considerate of those who need any accommodation.

Visited here on Boxing Day for brunch. The place was humming well before 10 am and given the large size of our group the pre booking was essential.
What I loved is the prompt service, provision of drinks (tea:percolated coffee and juice for the kids), and being allowed sufficient time to process and decide from the very substantial menu.
The range of food on offer was great. All sorts of pancakes, egg dishes, hearty breakfasts, and burgers.
The serving sizes are extremely generous and most of the group opted to take their leftovers home. It was a struggle to consume it all!

Best breakfast place in the Rutland area easily. Food was incredible and the staff was very friendly. Don’t bother with the other local breakfast attraction in town, in can’t hold a candle to this place.

My husband and I stopped here after visiting Rutland for a wedding and I wish we found it a day earlier, what a amazing little place! The food is truly amazing, Hubby got the sausage waffle which was huge, fluffy and had ground savage baked right into it and I had the Apple pancakes with some kind of sweet cream cheese and apples on them. It’s clean, and the waitstaff was very friendly, I wish I could take them home with me!

We stopped at Johnny Boy’s for lunch and were impressed with the level of service and quality of food. My husband and i are vegetarians and worried about finding options. We had the breakfast burrito and the strawberry pancakes and it was delicious! The portions are generous and the service is great. Would definitely recommend this place.

Hands down the best breakfast place you can go to in Rutland county. Nowhere else comes close (although there are other good places too). I make it a point to stop here when I’m in Vermont.
There’s plenty of parking, but you might have to wait a bit if you hit it during peak. The longest I ever waited was thirty minutes with a party of five on Mother’s Day. Otherwise, you’re usually right in. I think they only take reservations for large parties.
Good food, good service, and friendly staff. Try the Mexican or Montréal Scrambles, huge portions.

We brought two of our kids here for a late Monday breakfast. Finally a breakfast both kids loved! Darling daughter had the house omelet. Handsome son had a breakfast sandwich. This kid is usually a bottomless pit but he was quite satisfied with the sandwich. I had steak and eggs, they were cooked perfect. Only uncomfortable moment was hearing the kitchen staff say when ever someone orders Medium or Medium well (my order) the waitress should let out a big sigh because its a waste of meat. *yikes* But they did find an order of sausage and biscuits for my dearest.
Food was amazing and waitress was a doll!

Johnny Boy’s is a quaint old-​fashion family style restaurant. The décor is understated but pleasant. The service was warm and friendly. It’s like having a meal with your favorite aunt. They make the most delicious french toast we’ve ever had. I normally skim over the country potatoes in my dishes but theirs is so tasty I almost finished mine. The next time we’re in the area we will definitely pay them another visit.

We did the basics this morning — blueberry pancakes (short stack), hash, bacon. All three were the best I’ve ever had anywhere! Bacon was awesome, thick cut and flavorful. Fresh blueberries in perfect pancakes, and the hash was spectacular. Prices are very reasonable and serving size is very good. We will definitely return when we’re back in the area (within 100 miles)

Amazinggggg! their banana walnut pancakes are wonderful and my salmon omelette was delicious :)

My husband and I ate breakfast here on the way home from a weekend in Vermont. This place is a nice family breakfast place. We split pancakes, french toast, and hash browns. They use fresh Vermont maple syrup. Yummy yummy! Service was nice and quick. The bathroom was clean though a bit oddly decorated. We’ll probably return as this place has a convenient location on the way home to NJ.

Help!!! I’m in a food coma!!! Very quaint joint in the beating heart of Vermont. Got the chocolate chip pancakes with a side of home fries and let me tell ya I was not disappointed. The authentic Vermont maple syrup got my tastebuds revving. The waitress was a sweet heart. And Johnny boy (the owner) was a savage in the kitchen.

Hands down the best bfast spot in rutland. This is the second time I’ve been here and both times the food has been delicious. The service is also incomparable. So far we’ve ordered the omelettes and french toast and pancakes and the portions are huge and most importantly they taste great. Fresh products and real products. One thing they do different with their omelet is that they mix the egg into the filling, which i think is great! Will definitely be back for more for sure.

You have not had a good eggs Benedict until you have had the Johnny Boy! Thick sliced Canadian bacon, and poached eggs on an English muffin with «Salsa cheese» which was a bit like melted cheddar jack with a hint of Sriracha. Our waitress indicated that was her favorite item on the menu and it did not disappoint! A perfect post skiing breakfast! The hashbrowns were pan seared instead of fried, and although the later is my preference these were still well seasoned and tasty!
Other favorites at our table included the mimosa, the sausage gravy and biscuits, and the build your own omelette. The coffee was good and strong — I swear even the decaf made my toes tingle! A homey atmosphere and excellent service made for a perfect breakfast experience. As seasonal out-​of-​towners this may be our Rutland go-​to from now on!

The portions are generous and the food is delicious every time around. The service is always quick too. The pancakes are a must try along with the sausage gravy with biscuits.

We stopped here while on vacation. One word AWSOME PANCAKES. If your in the neighborhood definitely stop buy. You will not be disappointed! !!

pesto omelette– can’t go wrong if you love omelette ! Biggg veggies omelette served with home fries and toasts.
This pancake house looks exactly like what a pancake house should look like. Cozy atmosphere and design. Def gotta try their pancake next time!
