FYI: It is in a basement of a house… I spend 30 minutes walking up and down the street, because I couldn’t believe it was a bar… at least I got cardio for that day. Unfortunately, my friend didn’t think otherwise. Okay let’s begin. The bar use to be a speakeasy in the 1920’s, so it is kind of small. However, due to the size of the place it gives off a more comfortable vibe where one could just sit and enjoy a couple of drinks. The setting of course has a 20’s theme with the walls coated with maroon and a dark green with old pictures are hanged all over the walls. It makes you feel like you are in one of those old library study gentlemen or ladies drinking brandy and watching the fireplace. Also, they have 3 barrels as a tables to hang out with darts boards, a shuffleboard, and a jukebox if you need a rest from drinking. The bartender was very pleasant and he makes a great New York Sour and an Old Fashion. The price was $ 12 for the cocktails, so it might be pricey for people, but the draft beer is not bad either. Overall, this place has a great feel and the bartender was an awesome person to hang and talk with. I will definitely come back, when I am near the jersey shore again.

Shh. Don’t tell anyone about this place. Murphy’s is a Speakeasy that has been active since the 20s currently on their 10th set of owners, who are fantastic and personable. The place is nestled in an inconspicuous neighborhood in Rumson nearby the Salt Creek Grill. I was brought into a residential neighborhood and told we were going to a bar, and when we parked I had a lot of questions to ask. «I thought we were going to a bar? Is this actually a house party?» What a pleasant surprise. Rounding the corner of a small fence and approaching the basement door marked«Murphy’s — Since Prohibition» it began to dawn on me. Inside the small basement bar are tables mounted on big old fashioned barrels, a shuffleboard table that stretches across the entire far wall, and bathrooms that are surprisingly well-kept. They serve everything from beer to high-end cocktails(which keep with the 20s theme and are both strong and creative) and for this area are relatively well-priced. 12 $ for in my opinion their best cocktail was a steal to me in Rumson(Try the New York Sour!) I’ll definitely be back again for the events at the very least. I’m hoping to catch a gangster or jazz club dress-up night!

So. Much. Fun! I went here during a bachelorette party. Bartenders were funny and friendly. Only complaint is that it was a little bit dirty. Definitely would recommend though!

Great hidden neighborhood speakeasy with a lot of history and friendly after work locals. Rob and Heather are usually behind the bar to serve up good cocktails or a local carton brew. Cool shuffleboard, dart boards, and juke box. Once you find it, it will be one of your regular go — to bars. Just don’t tell too many people.
