I grew up in the area and have since moved away. The first thing I do when I’m in town is stop at Sonny’s for the 9th Street Italian Hoagie. Whenever someone is visiting me from out of town, I request they bring Sonny’s. If you think the bread is stale, you’re a moron. That’s the way it’s supposed to be. It’s French bread from Sarcone’s. Go to Subway if you want soft bread. If you want a real, Philly style hoagie, this is the best place in the suburbs… hands down!

As a foodie who grew up in the heart of the city eating at places like chickie’s deli, Sarcones deli, Willies sandwiches etc… this place has hit the bullseye with the Chicken Cutlet Abbruzze sandwich. Explosions in your mouth with a zing on the tail end… A must stop Philadelphians if your out this way. if your headed to the philadelphia outlets its close by.

Very disappointed that the rolls our hoagies were on were so terribly stale. Had to microwave the sandwich to be able to eat it. Read such great reviews, was so sad to have such a bad experience.

Disappointed. How about some quality control? Ordered a roast pork Italiano. Where to start, was it as I watched the cook pull the pork out of a plastic bag from the fridge and reheat it in a skillet without any au jus? Or the spinach plucked from the fridge to be reheated in the«Sarcone’s» as he placed it in some micro toaster oven, which by the way may have been to hide the fact that the roll was not fresh. Alas, it was not reheated long enough, the roll was still a bit stale and the spinach remained cold at the time of consumption. Returning to the soccer complex around the corner to enjoy my sandwich and my boy’s soccer game, let’s just say the soccer game was the only thing that was not a disappointment. Two stars are for the effort and expectation, as measly as it was, wish the meal could have been better.

My go to sandwich place. Party trays are always a hit. Tip is to call am Me order ahead of time. The wait can sometimes be a bit.

Can’t say enough good things about this place the rolls are baked fresh and all the ingredients are better then to be expected. Portions are large and although there a bit more expensive then the other Italian deli in town they make up for it with creative sandwiches and super high-quality. The staff is the same every time we go in there and every time the food is perfect. Pro tip get the junkyard(a lot better then it sounds) it’s my go to every time I go.

Frigging amazing! Best subs I’ve ever had — rolls are baked fresh. Wish I lived closer.

A solid 3 ½* sandwich place. We had the chicken parm and the roast pork sandwich. Both were good. The bread was excellent. No other major side dish options: some side pastas and bag of chips. Not a good eat in place. A hole in the wall takeout place. We were the only one eating in.

Chicken Parm hoagie is awesome! They pour fresh sauce from a big pot on the sandwich!!! See my other review for how good this place is. Best hoagie shop in the area. It has overtaken another local place that I used to love. If you are in the area and want a great hoagie– this is the place. P. S. Parking is ample. lol.

Not sure what to say other than«wow!». This place is outstanding. They use the best bread, from Sarcone’s, and the finest meats and cheeses. Their hoagies are also huge as well. I’ve only had their Italian and Roast Beef hoagies but they have a wide range to choose from as far as variety goes. The hoagies from Sonny’s are probably the best I’ve had in the ‘burbs.

Been coming here for years… The hoagies here are the absolute best and I’ve had them all. The owners are so nice and friendly every time you come in. They have a fabulous selection of hoagies as well. Everything here is top notch from the Sarcone’s seeded roll to the ingredients. The hoagies are large so you have to be awfully hungry to eat that 2nd half… Don’t forget to get one of the homemade cupcakes that they have at the front counter. They are absolutely amazing…

Best Hoagie Shop in the Philly ‘burbs, in fact might be my favorite ever! As mentioned from many other reviewers, they do in fact use Sarcones bread(thankful for the family relatives!) which is amazing and perfect for hoagies — crusty outside, chewy inside and sprinkled with sesame seeds — perfect bite. A very important factor in a great hoagie is the bread! The meat/cheese/veg ratio is also perfect in every sandwich I have tried, notably my favorite: Turkey Abbruzze which features turkey, fresh mozzarella, asparagus, roasted red peppers and the best part… Di Bruno Brothers spicy Abbruzze cheese spread on the roll. heaven! What I have not yet tried yet which they pan fry daily are the chicken cutlets — I hear rave reviews and will definitely check out in the near future. The owners are extremely friendly as well so my experience has always been positive. Sometimes I find myself gently sobbing in a corner on Monday realizing they are closed… but I digress… Thanks Mike & Donna, keep up the awesome work and continue to keep me well fed! To greater eating!

I really loved this place when I got same takeout lunch there recently. It’s small, out of the way, and intimate. It reminds me of the Italian bakery and deli I worked at growing up. A bit pricier, maybe, but I’m happy to say it’s worth it. I got the Sonny’s Steak. To be honest, there could have been more cheesesteak there, but it was the best sandwich of it’s kind I’ve had in a long, long time. The meat was perfect, the cheese was exquisitely sharp, and I’ve never had a cheesesteak with a seeded roll before. The bread was high quality and the seeds actually went over very well. This definitely is not a place I can afford to go to all that often, but it’s very worth it for a once in a while splurge.

Sonny’s probably has one of the best sandwiches on the planet, that being the Junkyard. Have tried many of their other hoagies which are all good, but the Junkyard reigns supreme. Those looking for cheesesteaks will find average quality and size. Stick with the traditional Italian style sandwiches.

I have been going here since 2005. Best hoagies around the area by far. Homemade chicken cutlets, Sarcones bread, pasta salad is great too. I disagree with the service, have always been treated well here. Suggestions: Junk Yard(featured on Food Network), Center City, Chicken Cutlet Abbruzze and the Pork Italiano. I have never heard anyone complain about meat ratios here, how much meat does one person need?!

best GD hoagie in philadelphia or its suburbs. period. when primos opened a location in collegeville, i thought«sonny’s has some competition moving in on their turf.» but then i had a primos, and i was like… «nevermind, wawa’s hoagies have compeition moving in on their turf.» wawa, primos, anything else… not even in the same league. sonny’s uses high quality meats and cheeses and has a bunch of italian deli sides to boot. must try the following: old fasion italian or south philly with cherry peppers, oil, vinegar, lettuce, tomato, onion. get some cherry pepper shooters too. youre golden with that meal. oh, and their rolls… you have to gnaw through these sandwiches(in a good way). pork italiano is good too. and their cheesesteaks are different but good. mmm. sharp prov cheesesteak. little pricey, but worth it.

Good rolls from Sarcones but they were too hard today. Maybe we got old ones from yesterday since we were the first order of the day. Enjoyed the Old fashioned Italian. Not a fan of how they cut the sharp provolone in cube spears. They are on FB. The meat to bread ratio was perfect.

Caroline said it all !! Great hogies! I got the South Philly Italian and Hot Roast Beef. The Italian had a good meat to bread ratio, the roast beef could use a bit more beef to be spectacular. Will be back to try some more hoagies.
