I received a tip from a fellow music fan/record collector that this place sells vinyl and had a rack of records in the back. Walked in, saw a bunch of pricier records on the wall and the rack in the back. Went straight for the rack, and started pulling records priced from ~$ 7 – 20, ended up with a dozen or so I was interested in and needed to check the condition before buying anything. Turns out all the records except one were WRECKED and scratched to hell, as in G– condition at best. Maybe I got unlucky with the albums I was interested in but I don’t think so. Whomever is pricing these records needs a hard reality check. The albums I looked at would be dollar bin copies on a good day, and even then I wouldn’t buy them. I guess the record rack exists in this store to attract the stupid or ignorant, i.e. trendy hipster types that buy vinyl for show, not to listen to.

We came across this wonderful shop while next door at UHF Record shop. My husband and I saw the beautiful Mid-Century furniture in the window and had to stop in. The items were amazing and loved every item in the shop, not to mention the records they have inside are just as amazing. The owner could not be nicer and very helpful and we will be back again and I will tell others about this great store as well. A must for any mid century buff and also if you love great vinyl that is a bonus!!!

I’ve been shopping at Vertu for years and cannot recommend the place, or the owners Rob and Roger highly enough. They are more knowledgeable of the modernist offerings than anyone you shall ever meet, and are extremely generous with their time and wisdom.

I was lured in by the gorgeous mid-century modern furniture, but the vinyl was what kept me there. While I don’t argue that such fine furniture is worth the prices they are charging, I’m also a gal who has a keen thrifty eye and has been known to spot an Eames knock-off at an estate sale or(even better) a GR-area Salvation Army. There’s no way I’m spending over $ 1k for something that I can’t drive or live in. I appreciate great design, but I’m kinda cheap that way. Still, I gladly drop more coin than I should every once in awhile on records. I was pleasantly surprised at just how good the selection was here — a little bit of rock, some soul and r&b — everything in impeccable shape. The owner or manager obviously took pride in the selection, saying that they don’t buy or sell anything they wouldn’t listen to themselves. I walked out with 5 records for $ 40-something. It may not be a crate-digger experience, but I got quality stuff for $ 8−10ish each. Al Green, Nina Simone, Junior Walker, and even a nice minty copy of the Jam’s All Mod Cons. It was a nice bright spot from an unexpected detour during an otherwise weirdly hectic day! If I ever did change my values or budget and put more stock in pristine vintage furniture, I’d probably trust this shop and return.

Interesting furniture but the owner(or whoever was working there that day) was a bit aloof and more busy having a conversation with his friend than helping. Probably not a deal breaker but you’d think they would actually *want* to talk to their customers given this economy.

I really like this place. It has two of my favorite things in it: nice looking furniture and lots of vinyl records. I checked it out recently and was pleasantly surprised by the selection of both things. I kind of shouldnt even be writing about this place; since it’s kind of a secret spot to come up on hot wax! Oh well.

Excellent, local shop in downtown Royal Oak which has a nice collection of art deco furniture and other sundries including vintage albums, paintings, pottery, etc. It’s a small place on Washington Ave, but their selection is different every time you stop by. I’m most impressed, though, by their customer service. I bought a sonneman lamp from them and they offered to fix it for me months later when I thought it wasn’t working(it just needed a light bulb!) Needless to say, they treated me well and I came back. It’s a low-pressure kind of place with a very knowledgeable staff. My only complaint — the hours that it is open are somewhat limited!

Vertu is one of the few stores in Michigan that boasts a nice selection of mid-century modern. This place is awesome… Offers top designers including Eames, Saarinen, Nelson, and Dunbar. Even at one time had George Nakashima! The owners are helpful and friendly with over 20 years of experience. If you don’t find anything on your first visit, check back in a week or two, they are constantly getting new pieces in. Besides furniture they have paintings, jewelry, lamps, rugs, and pottery. I love this place. In fact, I am furnishing my new place and might just have to splurge on a Saarinen end table!

Lots of antiques here, but also a great selection of modern pieces to complement your home. I come here strictly for browsing(because I clearly can’t afford anything right now), but I definitely saw some cute lamps, clocks and rugs that I could use in my future apartment. They also have some cute antique jewelry that I would probably never buy, but is cute to look at. They are especially known for their mid-century collections.
