This review is specific to this location of Mongo BBQ only as I get sick from almost every other location I eat at. The food here(especially if you tell them you want it EXTRAEXTRA cooked) is always good and cooked sufficiently. They always have people swapping out ingredients and adding fresh items which is nice! While it’s fun picking out all your ingredients and sauces it could tend to be a bit much and if you ever make a bowl you don’t like they let you remake it. At this location specifically, our waiter told us with our bowls the soup and salad bar are free too– not sure if that comes with your bowls at other locations since he’s been the only person to tell us this but that’s pretty cool. I’m not particularly fond of mongo BBQ but Mr. V really enjoys it and this location is the only one I’ll eat at whenever he gets the craving lol Not bad for what it is but great job keeping things nice and replenished mongo staff!

Best mongolian IF you do not know what mongolian should taste like. Really, the concept and food is great but they way the cook it is horrifying. They way over cook the food. They dry it and burn it EVERYTIME and in EVERYLOCATION that I have been too. The waste a lot of food and they mix the food from other customers with yours during cooking. They are happy and wonderful worker, young and very lively. But some one need to tell this franchise they need to cook the food right. Mongolian food should be cooked in less time than what they do. I guarantee the CEO will not be happy if he/she try the food AFTER trying a real mongolian. But the place is playful and with couple of drinks, who cares if you are eating chicken or pork. I guess both are white meat. I am not rating the place here. I am rating the food quality.

Not your typical dining experience. You pay up front for a bowl and head on over to a couple buffet style stations where you load up on your choice of meats, vegetables, and other ingredients. As long as it fits in the bowl, it’s part of the meal, so load it up, smush it down, repeat =) The guys on the grill put on a show while grilling, so you’re at least entertained while waiting for your food. The end product really depends on your choice of ingredients, though they do have helpful recommendation. Overall, the food was OK, the meat did feel a little tough, nothing that’ll blow you away. Worth a try if you’ve never had it before.

I haven’t been here in many years. Went here a couple of times after it opened and at that time, it was felt dingy and cramped. But since they remodeled within the last few years, it feels more welcoming and open. The only reason why I visited this one and not the one in Auburn Hills or Shelby Township was because I was coming home from work(Ford Field) on a Sunday afternoon. Two other reasons why was(1) went to Starbucks beforehand and(2) walked over to bd’s and was able to watch most of the overtime before sitting down for dinner with two friends.

The service at 4pm on this Thursday was horrible. The place was dead and took for ever to get seated. Waitress was slow and did know specials. Was expecting more from here

Very poor service. Waitress would not explain how process works. She never refilled the drinks. I was totally confused as to how to get food. I could not get my water Glass refilled. Expensive. It was supposed to be happy hour but there was nothing to explain what drinks were at a discount

My favorite restaurant on the planet. This location. That grill. 5/5, every time.

I gave this place 2 stars because the food is mediocre. They give you a small bowl which you then load with raw meats, veggies, etc, and hand to the cooks who grill the food right in front of you. Honestly, watching the grill cooks is the only appealing part of dining here. I have been to this location twice and both times my meal was bland, and ordinary. I also feel that the prices are inflated.

Went last night for dinner. Big mistake! The little one with us had an order of chicken tenders of the kids menu, with ranch and in the bottom of her ranch was chocolate syrup! The kitchen staff needs to do a lot better I could only imagine what else on our table was dirty. Our server was so-so didn’t become super kind until it was time to leave a tip. And I appreciate how quick the manger was to fix the problem. But it’s hard to get over the fact that you guys sent out a dirty dish to a child!

If your meal isn’t right, it’s because you didn’t think it through before you made your dish, or you weren’t vocal with the chefs, who are happy to do special orders. I always start off with a curry garlic chicken with black bean soy sauce. I grab some cheese from the salad bar and an egg, and ask them to mix the egg in instead of frying it on the side, for a smoother consistency. They get it right every time. There are too many options to ever feel like you’ve tried everything — I just have a hard time giving up my favorites in favor of experimenting! They have a menu now instead of solely the create-your-own, but I can’t imagine ordering a dinner here that I didn’t pick out myself.

I don’t know what happened. This restaurant use to be so good and now it’s lost it’s flare. I went with my sister and my son. The rice was completely cold as was our tortilla’s. The food was not that great and undercooked in my opinion. Our waiter kept running off before we can make requests and the kids menu is a joke. I don’t think I will waste time returning here.

I use to come here often and always had good food and service but today I was left wanting both. My server took forever to bring my rice so my meal started to get cool my sister got cold rice. The kids menu has nothing good on it. I don’t think I will be back here

I give this BD’s 2.5÷5 stars but will be generous and round up to a 3. I’ve only been to BD’s one other time in my life, and it was a few months ago in Novi. The food was great, the service was very attentive, and I think we went during the week for lunch so there wasn’t much of a wait. The Royal Oak BD’s has a different vibe to it. I liked the setup but it turned out that the area by the cooking circle thing was super hot. PROs: –food was overall good -$ 16.99 for dinner isn’t too bad considering it’s unlimited, although I was glad we had a birthday BOGO(sign up for their e-club!). CONS: –Our waitress never brought our tortillas. The rice she brought was a teeny tiny portion too. I guess my bf also asked for extra napkins which she never brought. –Not one, but BOTH plates that I received from the cooking circle area were chipped. Like BIG chips too, not small chips. I’m not really one to care about that sort of thing but when all your dishes are chipped, you may want to get new ones. –Cooking area was very hot. Also very crowded, though it was around 7pm on a weeknight so that’s not really their fault. Overall the food was fine but I think I’d go back to the Novi BD’s or maybe try the Sterling Heights one. We were going to a show in Detroit tonight so this one was on the way. The restaurant was clean overall but the waitservice was just so-so and so was everything else.

The food was great, but our server clearly hates his job. I told him I had a birthday coupon and he threw his pen at me and told me to write down my coupon number. Every Time her checked on us, he sounded annoyed by us and like we were inconveniencing him terribly. I’ve worked in bars for years, and I know we weren’t high-maintenance or rude to him. He never introduced himself, and our experience would have been great if he wasn’t part of it.

The staff was friendly but the concept of this place just wasn’t for me. Once the food was cooked it was ok but it’s not the most sanitary place to eat. I would like to give it a higher rating but my drinks weren’t even good.

Well, my nephew from St. Louis thinks this place is the best place ever. I have the illusion that it’s really me… because he and I always take him to lunch here when he comes to town. Good location, good service and good food. You can’t ask for a lot more. Well, I guess I can. I would like it if they cook my meal a little less. They do tend to over cook things and it diminishes the favors a bit. Of course my nephew has 23 ingredients in his bowl, so he probably wouldn’t know the difference. I don’t want this review to sound negative at all. I really do like this place and will be back many times in the future.

Does BD’s stand for Bowel Destruction? First of all the buffet line is just asking for cross contamination, then you put your food on a grungy grill and the cooks chop your food up and put it in a bowl and hand it back to you. So they are giving the general public free range around a buffet to not cross contaminate raw chicken and other raw meats. The sauces did not sit well, and I spent the rest of evening praying to the porcelain god of poo.

I really like Mongolian BBQ, but it’s not as much fun as I remember. Back in the day, I used to go to the one in Ann Arbor, and it was such a big deal. Wait times were an hour and a half, and you could make anything you wanted! Now, the hoopla has worn off after all these years, and it’s still around. I like it here, but I don’t love it. For starters, I love that you can create your own meal. It allows you to control what you put in it, the seasoning level, and you can watch it getting cooked right on the grill. They have a really good selection of meats, pork, chicken and fish products here. Some were seasoned, some were not. I went with the steak, and put some veggies and seasoning on it. Here’s the down side. I swear, back in the day, they used to have recipe cards-and not just a few. Enough that you could choose from a variety of dishes to make, and if you wanted to adjust it, it could be done. Want less bbq sauce with a swish of teriyaki? Awesome! Want to add a little less chili powder and toss in some Italian seasonings? sure! Now, it’s each man for his own. Don’t get me wrong, I can be creative and throw food in a bowl. That’s not the problem. I tend to be the person that isn’t sure how much seasoning or sauce to use, and end up ruining the dish. I want to make sure that I’m not putting to much sauce or not enough powder in my dish. Some kind of gauge is nice to work off of. I looked everywhere, and finally had to ask where the recipe cards were. Someone pointed to the wall above the grill, and there was like 5 recipes to choose from. I stared at it and went from there, concocting a really good steak and bbq dish with broccoli and potatoes in it. The grill guy here was awesome. He had a lot of flair and was swinging dishes in the air, along with the cooking rods as well. Very impressive! Also, happy to see that he was working quickly and able to handle the grill on his own. Very good. Overall, I really liked my dish. Our server was great, always checking in on us, and refilling our drinks. By the time I got back to the table there was white rice and tortilla’s ready for us! Very nice. The great service and little additions really made dining here pleasurable. I wish they had more cooking ideas to inspire those of us, and not on the wall! It caused me to do a lot of «wait, I need to go back to the veggies and get more stuff» and«where’s the shrimp? Oh, there? excuse me, excuse me.» You get the point. Glad to see they are still around and it’s a nice break from the norm in regards to dining experiences. Keep up the good work!

This may sound like a jerky thing to say, but if you don’t like Mongolian BBQ than you are probably doing it wrong. It took me awhile to figure out what sauce tasted best and what to mix and what not to mix. The service is great, and if you go on Monday, it is student night with $ 10 unlimited bowls! I believe unlimited bowls on any other night is only $ 13, so not a huge price difference. When it is really busy, and there is a lot being cooked on the grill, I would always tell them to cook my chicken extra. I just think raw chicken can’t be cooked that fast. Don’t be afraid to tell them what you prefer, as YOU are eating this food, not them. To really get your moneys worth, put the vegetables first and then put your proteins on top if you are only purchasing one bowl, and stack it high. I don’t really care for any of their apps or zerts(desserts). They are very meh. They have a section for large groups or parties in the back, and a busy mongos is the absolute worst. It could take almost an hour if you have a line wrapping around the whole restaurant, waiting to get your food cooked.
