Lam’s Tailoring

Idk how it costs $ 180 to alter a suit! I just paid because of my lack of free time, and the fact I couldn’t put it off because of an upcoming wedding. But I definitely do not recommend, the suit alteration was ok but not $ 180 worth. How is it $ 180 I’m still lost, did I get swindled!?! Please go anywhere but here

Mr Lam is flat out the best, because of this he can get pretty busy. I usually go on monday mornings and there is no waiting. Mr Lam has fixed countless suits, shirts, pants, sweaters and sport coats of mine to perfection

I was not impressed. He seemed flustered and swamped when i arrived. I asked about shortening a dress and he told me to try-​on! I asked him if he could look at the fabric first. After looking at the embellishment on my dress, he told me he would not be able to keep the same hem.
Very poor customer service. He was very short and did not ask open-​ended questions.
Perhaps for basic hemming in denim and pants he might do a good job. Or cater to men’s suiting.
I would not trust him with wedding gowns or anything that is couture.

Brought in another formal dress. It is gorgeous and fits beautifully. It is made with heavy black lace with multiple layers underneath. The only problem was that the front of the dress was 3 inches too long with my high heels on!
Didn’t want my dress to be touched by an amateur, but by someone who knows what they are doing. No question in my mind, this was a job for Mr. Lam.
Mr. Lam discussed with me what I wanted and also made suggestions. We decided that the front of the dress would skim the floor and it would taper towards the back and we would keep the train. He took several measurements. We came in on Saturday evening and asked if we could have the dress by Thursday evening. Normally, we like to give Mr. Lam 2 weeks for more complex pieces, but the dress was a special order and had just come in. He looked at the dress, paused, and said he could have it by Thursday evening.
As we wrapped things up, he reviewed with us what he was going to do and showed us what he was going to do to each layer of the dress and then told us how much it would cost. We agreed on the price.
Today, Thursday, we came to pick up the dress. I didn’t even take out my ticket and he immediately took out my dress. When I tried it on, IT WAS PERFECT. The length was exactly as we agreed upon, it tapered beautifully to the train, and the stitching was done precisely. Another great job! When I looked at the work that was done on the dress and complimented Mr. Lam on his work, he was all smiles.
Whenever we have asked Mr. Lam to work on one my formal dresses, on my husband’s suits, or on my husband’s dress shirts, we have never been disappointed with his work. Thank you again!

Have come here several times to get dresses (both formal gowns & casual), jumpsuits, pants hemmed, altered, and/​or rip repair. Mr. Lam delivers every single time which is the reason why I keep coming back. Usually doesn’t take more than 5 days until it’s ready to pick up. And if it’s a rush, always just let him know & he will try his best to get it done on time. I’ve never had ANY complaints on anything he has worked on for me, my mom, & my sister. Pretty good for a place I just found on Unilocal!Knocked off a star just because it does get pricey, but that’s about it :)

Lam has been here for twenty years and has been through all my battles with weight loss. He is a family man and truly cares about your satisfaction.
I would trust him with all your clothing alterations.

I took 2 sets of my best suits here to have Mr. Lam tailor them. I was very satisfied with the way they turned out. Mr. Lam was very understanding and professional. The prices were reasonable as well. I’ll definitely be becoming back for all my future tailoring needs.

A bit expensive but is well worth the price. I will not go to any other tailor except for Mr. lam. He knows what he is doing and I trust his eye… very professional and does exceptional work.

Gone several times w/​in a year period to do the same job for my uniform. For some reason, the price has kept going up every time I go. This time, I got charged $ 50 for the similar job done to my other uniform, which cost me about $ 38. I just want the pants cut short & not baggy!

Mr. Lam is one of the best tailors in the area. He is precise with his measurements. Great service. He will always give you his best opinion on the style and looks.

This guy is expensive. He’s probably the best tailor in the area so I think he can justify his prices to himself, but not to me – I have a car. He can also make custom suits, so he definitely knows how a suit is constructed. And I agree, I feel like Mr. Lam looks at you and then decides how much he’s gonna charge. I had him do some complicated work on a suit (take in sides all the way through to bottom of coat, adjust waist, slim sleeves) and his work was some of the best I’ve seen. It probably cost double what any tailor in downtown L.A.
Go here once at least to see what he can do for you. Then find a comparable tailor that’s cheaper.

2 dress fitting $ 60 — one for the length hem and the other for pulling in my dress to a smaller size
It takes about a week to get your alterations. I only came here because my usual alteration store in Rowland was closed. She gives you your clothes the same day, so I’m less inclined to be boost about the speedy service here.
Quality-​wise, it’s not bad. I’m going to explore other options around the area. This could be one of the better options, but I’m not sure.

It was my first time getting anything altered and I’m glad I brought it to Lam’s Tailoring. I brought in my newly bought suit to get the pants hemmed, the suit fitted, and the sleeves lengthened. Lam was nice and very helpful; it took him just a few seconds to understand what I would look good in. I went back to pick up the suit 2 business days later to find a perfectly tailored suit waiting for me. Although Lam’s is a little pricey, he did a terrific job and has earned my business for years to come.

Dear Mr. Lam,
I’ve been coming to you for almost four years. You’ve always done an outstanding job on all of my clothes. The fit feels sloppy coming in and sharp coming out.
Your attention to detail is phenomenal.
What I dislike about your operation, is your pricing. Why would you charge me $ 45 for altering two pairs of slacks on one month, and $ 90 on another?
When I, or anyone else for that matter (I’ve seen other return-​customers here complaining to you) bring this issue up, you say, «it’s a fair price for my quality work.»
You’re right about your quality work, but you’re wrong about it being fair. Charging up and down can bring you down.
Please create standardized pricing… I know us Asians are old-​school when it comes to certain things… but when it’s a problem remembering what you charge on separate occasions, it can piss people off.

Mr. Lam is so nice, and he does great jobs on alterations, we love his work!
I need to hem my dresses, skirts or jeans often, or make my clothes fit me better, mostly on waist line, it’s not easy job to alter the waist line good, takes great skills, sometimes even the bust or shoulders of my clothes need work done to fit me perfectly. Hubby needs to tailor his suits all the time. We are always happy with his work, never disappointed.
I love the mirrors there, they make me see how the clothes fit me so good! Yes we will have Mr. Lam alter our clothes forever!

I recently had about 15 pieces of clothing tailored here of a six-​month period. It started out well; the guy did a fine job, though I did think it was on the pricey side. I was satisfied with the work, however, so I was ok with the prices.
The first time I paid cash for a $ 40 job, I got a 10% discount for cash. That stopped with my next order, after which I was told you have to spend $ 100 to get a cash discount. I thought that was weird, but maybe he just changed his policy for business reasons.
Well, I recently had a jacket tailored, and it didn’t come out right. The guy knew it wasn’t good, and told me it just looked bad because I was wearing a t-​shirt when I tried it on and not a collared shirt. He said it «didn’t look that bad.» I’m not paying for it to not look too bad; I’m paying for it to look good.
Anyway, I decided to come back with the jacket when I was wearing a collared shirt, so I could show him it didn’t look right. I did just that, and he told me it would cost $ 40 more to fix it, after I had already spent $ 80. He will no longer get my business.

I used to come to this place because it was decently priced, fast and the closest tailor to my house. I always overlooked little things that irked me about this place because of those benefits mentioned above.
This is my main reason for giving him one star:
I took a pair of expensive diesel jeans to make a little slimmer, since he did a decent job on my past jeans I thought this would turn out fine also, the cuts were made diagonally so the line doesn’t go straight up, I calmly and reasonably confronted him about this and he literally raised his voice at me like I was never this long-​term customer that I’ve always been. That tells me straight up that he doesn’t care about his reputation. I should’ve demanded a refund on the spot but I left choosing to just never come back and always defer people from this place.

I have to say that the reason I started going to Lam’s is because of the Unilocal reviews I read. I have to say that they were right. This place definitely knows their tailoring. Even though I have only jeans hemmed, I can say that my overall experiences have been very good.
First of all the price is good. To hem pants Lam charges $ 10. The quality is very good and you can usually pick them up within a couple of days.
The service is is also good. The man is very nice and is very fast when pinning pants. He listens to what you want and explains the end results.
I will definitely be going back.

Great tailoring. Prices are pretty decent (not the cheapest but very well priced for quality tailoring ability).
I’ve gotten cheaper prices in the past with seams that fell apart after 1 wk (totally not worth it).
I only get my tailoring done at Lam’s and would highly recommend this shop to anyone.

I got a shiny new pair of jeans from Nordie’s Rack, but they were a tad bit long, so in my search for a tailor that could do it super fast, I found Lam. The shop looks like they specialize in tailoring men’s suits, but all I needed was a jean hem. Lam was quick and knew what he was doing. When I picked up my pair an hour later, the hem looked distressed and worn… just like I bought them! Quick and Easy! Now, if I could only get a nice perky bubble butt.
