Delicious! Found this restaurant by chance on Christmas day and have been back twice. The butter chicken is perfection

Friday buffet was awesome! Everything tastes great! I used to love Chola’s Buffet before they changed so now I’m super happy to have an Indian buffet again. Go try it’s really yummy!

Love this place! Just ate here for a second time. The hostess and server remembered us, remembered where we sat on our first visit, and remembered our order! Convenient location since we live in Round Rock, and the staff is really friendly and sweet. Appetizer was delicious, and the chicken tikka masala hit the spot!

Nobody’s home… Got there at 11am when they opened, waited inside the door for 10 minutes. Nobody inside, no hostess, what gives?

Avoid this place. We 8 people went to this place with kids at 2.00PM when the sign was showing open and timings on the door shown 11 am to 3PM. The lady at the desk asked us to wait for few minutes for seating and then few minutes later comes and tells that we are closed. This restaurant should not at all be in business. Does not matter how good food it can make, if there is no sense of service, nothing is going to come out good. Avoid at all and any cost.

Food was bad! There are a lot better Indian food options in the neighborhood. I wish this restaurant would take the competition to up it’s game. I ordered Dosa and thali. Dosa was soggy. The Sambhar was like a solid mass of lentils. When I complained about the Sambhar I got looks like they didn’t know why I was complaining. The thali. there was hardly any vegetables/curry. We had to order a separate order of Egg curry. which was good. All in all the lunch ended up around 30 dollars and I walked away never wanting to go there again. The management and people are good people but service was not that great either.

The food was great! If that were it then there would be five stars, but maybe I just went at the wrong time. The renovations weren’t finished and I just didn’t get the service I would’ve liked. But I’ll be going back bc of the food.

Ordered the non-budget Lamb Biryani for almost $ 14, there was a lot of rice and very little meat at all, very poor value for money.

Their website shows that they open at 10:00am. They do not. But they went above and beyond when my family arrived at 10:15am their door was wide open so we walked in. We didn’t realize they weren’t open for another 45 minutes but when we found out they weren’t open until 11 they said don’t worry about it we will take care of you. And they definitely delivered on their promise! The food was great and we finally found an Indian restaurant in Round Rock that is authentic.

This is my second review I am posting, though I have visited this restaurant multiple times. I decided to give one star this time because I have seen the standard of dishes keeps falling and also due to my recent experience at a weekend’s special feast. Though they had advised people to call and book in advance,(1) the bookings were not properly managed. Many people who made their booking had to leave without eating or had to wait a long time to be seated.(2) Poor crowd management. When people arrive they should have at least taken their names in the order they came rather than saying«5 mins» to each of them.(3) Poor service. Many folks did not get all dishes in the feast just because the server forgot!

If you want authentic Indian food this is the place. They cater to your needs. The manager Sunny listens to what you want and can custom make a dish, just ask. If they have it and can make it, they will. I went in the other day and asked for cauliflower pakoras and in a matter of minutes I got fresh hot delicious pakoras that I would make, or even better. The briyani is excellent here. I love the chicken. Their Gobi 65 is fantastic. Try their malabar parotha’s, sooo good. Their malabar chicken is also excellent. I love it here. My new favorite Indian restaurant, in the sea, of many in Austin. Everybody here is so friendly and nice!!!

The food was pretty good. The server was really great and helpful, although he could not always tell me what certain menu items were. I wish that the menu had more descriptions of each dish. I spent 20 minutes using my phone googling the different dishes to see what they were. We weren’t given any napkins, and my friend’s lassi came to her still warm. I think that this place has potential, but it was not exactly a relaxing experience as I was hoping.

Went last weekend for a carry out. Had ordered Malabar chicken curry and few appams. The curry was really delicious and spicy. As far as the appam goes, was not that big and crispy. Felt like a pancake. It needs improvement. Super friendly owner by the way. Also tried the Malabar parotta and it tasted good. Will recommend others Unilocalers too.

My experience at Astoria has three components to it: 1. The food 2. The People 3. The vibe 1. the food, where should we begin? For starters the Chole Masala was bristling with fresh veggies, some raw and some cooked. Fresh cilantro lay right at the top, just above the chopped onions, chick peas, and chopped tomatoes. It tasted light, and had a slight curry flavor lingering on your tongue for a little while. Overall, this dish is rich in veggies, no added oil, very light and with a slight spicy curry flavor to it. The Thoran, a traditional indian dish for the south province where the owner is from, was not as palatable simply because there was no sauce or broth; however, it was still quite appetizing. Mild in taste, this dish comprising black eye peas, banana, coconut shavings and cilantro was quite filling and very mild in flavor with a slight curry after taste too. The smell was slightly sweet; however, no real noticeable aroma. Taste: Mild with a slight spicy(indian spices) taste to it. I was also served the cinnamon rice, great smell to it, no noticeable taste, garlic naan with no butter(per request) fantastic garlic aroma and great for dipping in sauce dishes, and some additional white rice. The food gets a 4.5 star because the Chole Masala was so good in my opinion. 2. The people The wait staff were so friendly, when I walked in, you definitely get the feeling that they are there to serve you. Gentle smiles greet you, seat you, and take your order. 3. The vibe I didn’t feel like I was transported to indian just yet, I still felt like I was in a shopping center in rural texas, but after speaking with the manager and the co-owner, I understand that the whole place is getting a major face lift in May and will be opening for the GRANDE opening in Mid June. Definitely stay tuned for this place, should be sure to please, and even if I end up just coming there for the food, its still a 3.5+ star trip because of that. So definitely check it out, you won’t be disappointed if you get the Chole Masala. Cheers, Christian Graham

This was a great find! Me and my wife come here most of the time. Excellent food! Very clean and tidy place! Their biryani is really great! Powerful flavor! We have tried most of their biryanis, and the spices are just right I love it when I go to Indian parties and the food is catered from here! I can’t have enough of it! I highly recommend coming here simply because of the amazing value. lots of food, small price, and great taste all combining to make one great hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Also the best Kerala food in town! Heard they are under a new management now, I guess that might have made all these differences.

Worst indian food that one could serve in the area. Ordered a bunch of dishes and can easily tell that the cook has no idea about Indian cooking. Things were raw(partially cooked), greasy… PATHETIC in one word. The Indian white bread(Porotta), which used to be awesome earlier, was so hard and greasy, there was oil flowing which I was able to pat with a couple of tissue papers. The Malabar chicken curry was so salty and tasted nothing like malabar curry, which we have ordered multiple times before, we had to return it. The Biriyani was completely gravy clusters and rice, we in fact ordered it mild to get less of the masala. We had to get white rice to make it look less mushy. Was one of the most reliable places in the area, totally surprised and disappointed. Not going back anymore. There are most probably other decent places around in Austin if you want to get your Indian food.
