LOCATIONCLOSED Doh! Y’all had me SO so stoked to visit my Jersey roots and taste this amazing NY-style pizza(we just moved here). But when I arrived at the 1205 Round Rock Ave. location, Saccone’s is no more. All that remains above their closed storefront is the small«Pizza with a Jersey attitude» sign. And another sign saying«Niki’s Pizza, coming soon»

Well, I shall precede my review with that, I personally rather enjoy that they try to live up to the Jersey attitude. And, i say«try» because sometimes, they are too friendly, if you ask me. However, yes, sometimes when you call in to place an order, you will get that«New Jersey Attitude», or shall i say, that New Jersey ATTITUDE! I mean, it says right there, «Pizza With A Jersey Attitude», so you are warned of any forthcoming«attitude» you may get served alongside your order. That doesn’t mean that they are rude or anything like that, but keep in mind, this is a spin, and should be noted as much. You have a choice not to give them your business, you know. So don’t be a cry baby about it when they live up to their slogan. I don’t want to stereotype jersey people, so i will just let them do that for themselves since that is something they are proud to market with their service. And, as, i mentioned, i get a kick out of it because, hey i can appreciate that special edge. I shall never forget the very first time I called in an order, only to get this arrogant greeting, «Yeh, Saccone’s, whatdyawant?» It made me smile. Now, to the food. I must be honest that I am just not a pizza fan, never have been, and suspect that won’t change anytime soon. Having said that, I was seduced by their pies, which are SUPERB! If i, for some wild craving, ever do want a pie or a slice, i’m going to Saccone’s, the end. The crust is perfect thin, and large to fold, just like they should be, and if you want a sauce that makes your mouth water, you will be seduced by theirs. I would like to say like some of the other reviewers that the pie is authentic, but i haven’t been to the east coast yet, so i will just have to say that their pizza pies are BADASS. To the other reviewers who say that they didn’t like how the person taking their order was rude or seemed bored, get over it! Their slogan ISNOT ‘Pizza with a bubbly sparkly i give a s@!t about your day attitude’, so why are you crying? Their food sells itself, you don’t need to be impressed with anything else. They have a clean establishment and live up to their delivery times. And yeh, about the other foods, i do have some suggestions for other people who aren’t big into pizza. In my opinion, the best thing about this place is their Cold Tuna Sub, which makes me drool, just thinking about it…(hey, it’s been awhile). My regular order is a Tuna sub with spicy mustard, oil and vinegar and the other works, served with some pier fries. So frickin’ good. Just try it!!! The other recommendation I have is the Eggplant Parmigiana, which theirs is the BEST i have ever had, hands down! Get this hot sub with a side of fried jalapeño poppers, and you’re in for such delights! The salads arent bad here, either. And they do have an extensive pizza menu with sooo many different ingredients, and a lot of other items such as pastas, other hot and cold subs, sandwiches and appetizers. So yeh, that’s all I have to say about that. And even though Saccone’s is too obnoxious to give a damn about their reviews, let’s clear something up, they have a reason to be so confident. Excellent food, no b.s.

Excellent thin-crust pizza. One of 2 pizza places in the area that I love.

In terms of NY/Jersey style pizza and taste, I’ll have to give Saccone’s 5 stars. sorry Homeslice! These guys take me back to the Northeast the minute I walk in the door(no, actually the minute I call to put my order in). It’s so authentic from what I remember from growing up right down to the fountain Pepsi, thin crust and oregano, garlic salt and hot pepper on the side. Even the accents are authentic South Jersey yo. love it! If only there was a location in S. Austin. sigh!

Last straw, Saccone’s! Every time I call to get a pizza it is the same deal on the phone — «thank you for calling Saccone’s, please hold.» Within a minute or two someone comes back on the line and takes my order. Fine. No problem. When I go to the store to pick it up, or when we decide to go in and eat it there, there are always about 4 or 5 people working there. Of which, two might actually be doing something. Fine. I don’t care. That’s the owner’s problem. HOWEVER, when I call in the middle of the afternoon on a Tuesday — I time when we all know you aren’t busy, and I’m left on hold for over five minutes, well, at this point, you have officially earned my wrath d’Yelp. Your pizza isn’t good enough to put up with your«Jersey Attitude» that you so proudly flaunt. Normally the people working there are indifferent — I get the impression I should be grateful I allowed them to cook a pizza for me. I’m tired of it. Done. You have lost me as a customer. I’ll gladly substitute Brooklyn Pie Co., or even better Yaghi’s, and not have to deal with this bad customer service.

On the front it says«pizza with a jersey attitude.» Well I do like one of those things and you can guess which. The pizza was actually pretty badass and was cheap by the slice to boot. I had a crumbled sausage and pepperoni slice, it was fresh and hot with a great crust. The employees definitely gave me the vibe they would rather be somewhere else. Decent interior although they have gone the usual stereotypical italian route and put up a bunch of sopranos/gangster movie stuff(thats amore was not playing overhead). Still, great and cheap pizza i hope to eat again.

Very tasty pizza, subs, wings, and salads. It’s far enough from my house that they don’t deliver to us, but it’s good enough that I’d rather drive there than get delivery from anywhere else. Since there are just two of us and the pizzas are huge, we tend to dedicate an entire weekend to eating from there. We’ll order a pizza, a salad, and a couple of subs and just share everything. I have never had a bad experience.

I have family to represent from parts like Quakertown, PA and Trenton, NJ and when we heard of this place we knew we had to try it… We were not disappointed… the staff seemed to care less but that is what some of my family is used to, but the food speaks for itself. The calazones are awesome! The pizza itself is very thin, very NY, but satisfying… it is way far up north for us, though, so we really do not get to have that too often… but it is good stuff! The prices are economical, the toppings seem fresh, and the store is proper and clean! We will get it again when we are up that way sometime, I am sure…:)

Saccone’s has some good New York style pizza, but I took off a star for management attitudes and the meatball topping. I do continue to order pizza from here, despite these negatives, as i’m in The Rock and it’s basically either this or frickin’ Little Squeezers. The crust here is great and I like that there is only one size of pie — keeps you from having to make too many decisions when you’re hungry ;) I don’t like the meatball topping because it’s like they took a tennis ball sized meatball and sliced it, and it tastes bad, greasy and mealy. I’ve been here many times and since it is right next to Round Rock Highschool, managment has a sour attitude to teenagers in general which often extends to patrons in general. There are many signs around the restaurant restricting certain areas to teens, warning at the door not to come in and not buy something, etc. Kind of creates a hostile atmosphere, though i’m sure it’s for a reason. When I’ve had problems with things, the management has had a «too bad» attitude with me that I did not appreciate.

Maybe it’s because I’m an East Coaster; maybe it’s because I’m not a transplanted-to-Texas East Coaster(I’m actually a transplanted-FROM-Texas East Coaster) — but I found the pizza at Saccone’s on par with decent NY pizza you find up and down the Eastern seaboard. No better, no worse. Yes, it was good. On the recommendation of fellow Unilocalers, we tried a pie with the«sweet» sauce and red onion. With husband’s first bite his comment was, «How is this ‘sweet’?» I disagreed, however, and found the sauce really pleasant with a sweet, mild undertone. I guess his incredibly active sweet tooth(the boy eats honey and Nutella with a spoon) wasn’t satisfied with the level of sweetness. I definitely detected the difference between it and the normally more acidic sauce one gets with pizza, tho. The cheese was really nicely melted and the amount didn’t overwhelm or sog down the thin crust beneath. I marveled at the paper thin slices of red onion atop the pizza, but wished there were a few more rings scattered on it. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Saccone’s. One thing I noticed, however, was Saccone’s seeming aversion to student diners/loiterers. I guess because it’s located directly across the street from Round Rock High School, the restaurant gets a lot of kids coming in and milling around without purchasing food. There were all kinds of signs posted that said things like, «If you come in and sit down, you’d better be prepared to buy something!» and«No students allowed in this section, NOEXCEPTIONS.» It was a bit off-putting to see, and I wondered why Saccone’s doesn’t try to capitalize on this potential customer base with spending money to burn by offering a student seating section(instead of telling them where they CAN’T sit), and offering student specials at lunch(instead of admonishing them that they’d better be prepared to drop $ 17 on a whole pizza if they enter the establishment).

My family is orginally from New York City and so we have a certain idea about how pizza is supposed to be. This place has beautiful, authentic tasting New York-New Jersery style Italian American pizza. The crust is beatifully thin. The sauce, it is a herb infused sauce that is salty enough to stand up to the cheese flavor and the crust. This is an important characteristic of a sauce, it must have zing and flavor and saltiness, otherwise the pizza cannot be considered to be good. The cheese is yummy as well. Thinly layered on, oily in the right way, and blended well melted atop the crust and the sauce. The slices are New York size large fold and eat style. A petite person could eat one and be satisfied, but I can’t restist having more and I have been known to go way over board and go in for a third just because it is sooo good. This is New York style pizza, the real delio. A must-try for you if you enjoy the NY style of pizza.

Saccone’s Pizza & Subs Well, all the other reviews really like this place. Let me tell you my 2 cents worth. They are RIGHT! I and my friends(several from NY) really like this place, we almost always order different topping pizza slices during the lunch period. I get 2 or 3 slices, sometime more than I can eat. The thin crust with cheese, hamburger or sausage, tomato, onion and I am ready to eat. The slices are large so be ready to eat. My friends like sausage and green peppers and pepperoni. They also have cold beer if you like beer with your pizza. The place is clean and the staff is always courteous and can help you with any questions on the menu. It is located right beside Round Rock High School on 620. They do have delivery around portions of Round Rock but not all areas. They have a new Austin location as well as the one in Cedar Park. Yes, Saccone’s is the place to go for NY Pie in Round Rock.

I’ve loved saccones for 10 years but never wrote a review. I’ve travelled far and wide for the best new york thin slice(yes, even new york) and I’ve never matched anything to saccones. I realize this sounds overzealous but I know my pizza. It’s so fresh and the tomato sauce is the freshest I’ve ever had outside of a gourmet pizza place like grimaldi’s or some health food restaurant. I was so sad when the location near my house burned down and they didn’t rebuild in the downtown area. I KNOW that they’d be hotter than Home Slice if they did. Apparently they have a difference between their regular sauce and their sweet sauce. I tried both the otherday. I guess for years, I had been ordering default the regular sauce. But their sweet sauce is amazing. It tastes like it has less sodium and loads of basil, which I love. I’m able to enjoy the crust(I worship their crust) and the appropriate amount of cheese so much more with the sweet sauce. I never order anything but cheese, because the basics of saccone’s pizza is so pure and perfect, nothing needs to be added. Sadly, I only visit Austin couple times a year now but everytime I go, Saccones is the restaurant I await the most. I take holy trips to their closest location and I close my eyes and take a savory bite.

Let’s say you are hanging out in Georgetown and you get hungry for some Italian food. Let’s also say it is about 8:00PM on a Friday or Saturday night. You start calling around and everything(and I do mean everything) is closed. This is Georgetown, not Sun City! Oi!(I almost went into my former-New Yorker-now-retired and living in Boca Raton Grandmother impression. I’ll spare you.) The only thing that is open is in Round Rock. So, you order. You might be too lazy to get out of you PJ’s even. I mean, it’s no Sun City, but this is Georgetown on a Saturday night, AMIRITE?!? You head down to Saccone’s to pick up your White Pizza. It takes a while but the place smells amazing. Plus they have all these great Taxicab, Sopranos memento’s on the wall. Keeps you occupied. You get the pizza and you take it back home. OH, MARY, MOTHEROFCHRIST, THISISGOOD. You know whadda mean?! Yeah, well you would if you would listen to your mother and get your ass over to Saccone’s and get a pizza. Go! Right now! You look skinny! Would you eat something already?!

I am a believer that a special ingredient missing from many meals is that elemental/environmental component, that makes tortillas taste better in Mexico, hot dogs taste better at the ball park and pizza better in New York/New Jersey. I have been to many pizzerias in Texas that claim to be using the same flour, mozzarella, salumi and tomato’s as those in New York but few if any have translated that Northeastern experience to Texas. This is why I would like to commend Saccone’s, for my money and time, it’s a heck of a lot easier getting to Round Rock than boarding a plane to the east coast. Amazing, gut busting– perfect ratio of cheese, oil, sauce and crispy crust. My recommendation– any more than two toppings makes a pizza a quiche. Keep it simple enjoy the meatballs and the pepperoni and eat like your never going back to Round Rock, because if your like me, it is always far too long between visits.

My favorite pie here is Michael and Laura’s Special: sweet onions and a sweet sauce on top of a giant, thin crust pizza. I’m a big fan of thin crust pizza with a crispy, yet chewy crust, so Saccone’s really does it for me. I think it also helps that they make pizzas that can wrap around my entire body, and I can wear them as pizza dresses.

My roommate has a standing order that whenever I go to Saccones I should always buy an extra large pepperoni pizza and leave it in the fridge. It’s that good! For years, I thought this was the only good pizza in Austin. Any list of the best pizza places in Austin needs to include Saccones. It’s Jersey style thin crust pizza. You want to ask for the«sweet» sauce. The owners are true Jersey folks. It’s a bit of a ride from downtown. The formerly closest location burned down about a year ago. It was infamous for the biker who was shot by a sniper after exiting the restaurant a couple of years ago. There are a lot of good pizza places now, but this one remains the best. And it’s almost as good reheated, even when you’re sober.

The restaurant is full of New York decoration. I start to wonder it’s a Jersey style Pizza place, but why I can’t see anything related to New Jersey, but New York. The Jersey style Pizza tastes like New York style too. Both are thin crust. But a little bit sweeter. Anyway, much better than Chicago thick crust.
