Considering I wanted a nice hike, short vacation from Seattle, and a bit of Roslyn, this was just perfect! A little midweek get away — and coffee is right downstairs. The trail from Salmon la Sac is full of wildflowers — just beautiful. The Brick had a nice special — chicken wraps and at 10 o’clock the town is nice and quiet. There aren’t many places to stay in Roslyn — most are a bit rustic. On a scale of 1 – 5 for rustic I’d say this is a 5! It is pension style with shared bathroom and kitchen. No one else was there, so I had the place to myself. I called to check for a room at the last minute and they were very responsive. They texted me the code for the door and the room right after payment, and let me know that my first coffee is complimentary. They also had delicious baked goods in the morning.

This used to be The Mermaid and used to have fantastic service and food. Now owned by new people who do not have a clue as to what customer service stands for. Stayed here 5 long miserable nights with an absent property owner who was never on site nor even open during the hours that were posted. The bathrooms in the upstairs rentals looked like they had not been cleaned for our visit and we were very limited on clean towels for our group that was staying here. One bathroom had over a dozen dead bugs all over the ground! The kitchenette looked like it had been robbed and had nothing available for our use except for 2 forks and drinking glasses. On our first night we were greeted with a new roommate that appeared to be a friend or family member of the owner. The person made us feel like we were invading their space and we were not welcome. This individual played his TV? at an extreme volume level and was obviously watching R rated movies all night long because of the sound of the sex scenes and screaming vulgar language that came blaring out of the room. At one point this individual had a loud argument(one of many) in his room via cell phone and he referenced«If you wanted a girlfriend then there are two next door» referring to my friend and I who were sharing a large multi-bed room. Needless to say that made us very uncomfortable. As I was getting ready to leave the nextmorning for a outing into Roslyn, Jennifer MacIsaac the owner was upstairs and went straight into his room with cups of coffee and hung out with this individual the entire time I was getting ready. I had planned on making a complaint but that was the last time I ever had contact with the owners of this place. Later that day their phone# was taken down from their front office window and their hours of operations was smudged out and they remained closed the entire time I was there. I wished for a few things… one that I wrote down their phone# so I could personally complain about their poor service while I was still in Roslyn. Two that I did not pay in advance and followed my instincts upon arrival and left to stay at Harry’s Inn across the way and Three that the Mermaid was still in operation because it was one of the better ran businesses in Roslyn. Harry’s Inn across from the Brick and the Huckleberry are great places to stay overnight and there are a few homes in the area to rent as well. Cle Elum has the Aster Inn which has great charm. Simply put do not stay the night here and good luck in finding this place open for a simple coffee that can be bought at Maggie’s Pantry or Roslyn Coffee. If I wanted a Seattle coffee den cliché location to drink said coffee I would of stayed in Seattle to do it with better service and happier owners.

This is a great little coffee shop/café in Roslyn– it apparently used to have a different name and recently changed ownership. It is located just to the right when you reach the main street in town, if you are coming in to town from the interstate. The building is clearly of some historical vintage, and there is a nice old fashioned bar. There is a very friendly, low-key vibe to the place, and they are definitely making customer service a priority as a new business. We chatted for a while with the owners. It is also family friendly with enough space for my kid to not be getting in anyone’s way. I was happy to see that for coffee drinks I got at least three different non-dairy milk options to pick from. They also had a vegan soup that day which is always appreciated. I’ll stop in again next time I am in town!
