When I moved to Roslindale 4 years ago, I vowed to support local businesses, and this place makes it so easy! Joe and Alex are fantastic; so friendly and they know so much. And don’t be fooled by the small store footprint… they have everything here. I think there’s a big basement underneath. I’ll admit, we do still use the big chains for some of our bigger jobs (e.g., 2x4s, dry wall, Behr paint). But for most things, we usually try Roslindale ACE first, and we usually get everything we need there (bat houses, hardwood charcoal, humane mouse-​traps, paint primer, light switches… my husband just told me he needed an «in-​line dimmer switch for a motor control» and they gave it to him for free because it was faded).

Friendly and attentive staff. VERY HELPFUL! Glad they survived the big chain hardware store coming to the next town and are still around! They are reasonably priced and super convenient!

These guys are so great it makes me wish I went to the hardware store everyday. Knowledgeable, well stocked store, friendly, and the right price.

I’ve bought everything from a tiny keyring to 40 feet of 3in PVC pipe from these folks. Super nice and very welcoming and they’ve been great for last minute «must-​have» needs as well as planned stuff where we waited until their delivery/​restock truck shows up on Monday mornings. Excellent all around.

Super nice and helpful folks. Parking too! Glad I have the occasional need to shop here so I can support my local businesses. Oh and they make car keys/​fobs!

I have officially been brainwashed by the Roslindale Village Main Streets.
ACE Hardware was a recent discovery of ours while endeavoring to support these aforementioned local businesses. And what a great one! The man needed some random part to do some random job around the house (typical once you’re a married homeowner, ladies). After skulking around the plumbing parts section looking, for lack of a better word, rather sketchy, we were approached by an older woman offering her help. She knew where everything was, apparently. And she did!
She did her best to help us find what we thought we needed. And when we still weren’t sure if it was what we really needed, she called over the plumbing expert. Which is the her boss’ (that’s the owner’s) son. Long story short, he gave us the run down of what we probably really needed to get the job done. And sold it to us!
We returned again on a recent trip to pick up something else the man needed (don’t even remember what it was this time, it all starts to blend together after awhile, ladies) and again, were helped. This time by the owner himself. An older, slightly (charmingly) more disgruntled version of his son. Unfortunately, the part we needed only cost 30¢ and we had exactly zero cents on us. So we ended up buying a new broom and a bunch of duct tape to meet the minimum card requirement.
So this place has got just about everything you need! From odd jobs, to small parts, and all the in betweens. They sell random household goods too (like cleaning supplies, laundry stuff, yard work supplies, etc.). And they have an able and willing stafff to help you locate and pick out exactly what you need to get your jobs done! We’ve already avoided a longer trip out to Home Depot twice now.
We are so happy to have them in our neighborhood and all joking aside, I really am happy to support a local business like this one!

This place is perfect for 90% of your typical hardware store needs. The shop is family-​run and whoever is manning the counter when you come in will help you find whatever you’re looking for in a few seconds. Compare that to Home Depot, where you spend 20 minutes just trying to find someone who knows anything about what your question.
Sure it’s not a mega warehouse home improvement store, so if you need 15 sheets of plywood and some 2x4s you have to look elsewhere, but for your day-​to-​day needs these guys are efficient, very friendly, and knowledgable.

When I am in a hurry and don’t have time to go to Home Depot of Lowes they are where I go. They may be little more expensive than the Big Box Store but when I walk in Joe is willing to walk around the store with me and find exactly what I need. They have also been great in pointing out other local places to do things like when I needed to get rid of my yard waste.

This is a most wonderful place because of owners Joe, Alex, and assistant Kathy. They are so knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and go way beyond what one would expect from a hardware store. Who knew nuts and bolts could be so much fun? Great people, great service, great fun.

This is a great hardware store and you can get what you are looking for. Alex is great and knows everything in the world about everything in hardware store and more. International faxing available.

I get all my glass cut and windows repaired at this location. Excellent service and they have all the right hardware that I cannot find at Lowes or Home Depot. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful.
The only downside is parking.

Joe has a knowledge base that is nothing short of astounding. He also knows how to save you money by making the most economical suggestion to any problem. His son Alex is a gifted window glazer and brings the same practical good service approach to any problem. In the age of the Big Box Store Roslindale Ace Hardware keeps the flame of the family business alive and burning.

You have to love this place — a real old-​fashioned hardware store. These guys are knowledgeable, willing to take the time to offer advice and do some research if they don’t know the answer. And the store is a hoot — there’s stuff from the 60’s mixed in with the newer stock. It can be good fun just to explore…
