Having moored a vessel for a few weeks while working on the lake my associates and I have found the services to be above average. Although we have not stayed at the resorts lodge I would seem that the lodge facility is above average as well. This area is by far the most scenic portion of Wheeler Lake and the fishing is quite good.

I stayed in one of the lakeside cabins at Joe Wheeler state park and it was fantastic. The cabins are huge and comfortable for 6 – 8 people. The kitchen and appliances are modern. The fireplace creates a cozy atmosphere as you gaze out at the lake and wildlife through the floor to vaulted ceiling windows. There is a back porch off the living area with requisite rocking chairs for those lazy outdoor types such as me. The lake is just a few steps away. There is docking for boats. A marina and the main lodge with an excellent restaurant is close by. Anyone looking for a pleasant fun-filled or relaxing lakeside retreat for a low cost would find it here. This has been one of the best state park experiences In the southeast I have had in decades. If you want to venture outside the park there are many fun and interesting things to do within a short distance for the adventurous. Goodness, I had a wonderful time here and want to return soon.

The lake is beautiful! The rooms are adequate, but not great. Not the cleanest but they are right on the water. You can rent boats and ride around the lake, which is fun and relaxing.
