I have debated for a while whether to post this followup review because it speaks to Ms. Michaels’ character and stands in direct contrast to the courtesy and professionalism of her real-​estate title staff, but now that two years have passed…
After I concluded my second real-​estate transaction with Michaels Title, my personal information and final title documents were forwarded to a document clearing house that they use. Now for those of you who are not familiar with these services, they market themselves as Internet-​based secure storage. What they actually are is a thinly veiled machine that the real-​estate industry uses to aggregate personal information that is then sold to other eager buyers. However, since this *is* the mechanism that they use for document storage and transfer, you have no choice but to deal with them in order to get copies for yourself.
Being a cyber-​security professional by trade, I made sure to request the deletion of all information pertaining to my transaction after I’d retrieved the documents and moved them to secure storage that I control. I also requested the deletion – at the very least – deactivation of my account. Digital Docs, the service, didn’t honor my request until they checked with Michaels Title. And how do I know this? Because the idiots at Digital Docs copied me on all the emails, including the responses from Ms. Michaels.
In what she no doubt thought was a private email, Ms. Michaels apologized to the support people at Digital Docs, explaining away my request by insulting me. To this day, I have no idea if my request was executed, only that my account was deactivated some days later.
Now setting aside Ms. Michaels juvenile behavior, you might want to carefully consider working with a real estate title firm that engages services run by people who can’t even cope with simple email privacy. The plain fact is that services like Digital Docs are very tempting targets because real estate transaction information is packed with personal financial data. Michaels Title’s cavalier approach to this situation, aggravated by Ms. Michaels hostile attitude toward a client that took matters into his own very capable hands, makes a bad situation worse.
