Delicious! The ice cream was rich and you could definitely tell it was home made. Many flavors to choose from. The store itself was clean and nicely decorated. We had the Mounds, mint chip and ‘smurf’ flavors. And everyone left full and satisfied! Will absolutely return!

Really cute ice cream place in the middle of cute restaurants. Sampled a few flavors but decided on the snowman, a white chocolate ice cream. Would definitely come back as everyone enjoyed it.

The ice cream is pretty good — but the owner yells at his employees in front of customers. To me, that’s just not good management. The girls were working hard and were so pleasant and nice with us. Watching the owner yell at them just rubbed me the wrong way.

I was spoiled by this place… As a former resident of RVC, I used to be able to run down the street and grab a scoop of Five Pennies. I had no idea how much I took this place for granted until I moved, and went to a local carvel, or tried to ice cream from Ralph’s, or grabbed a pint of Ben and Jerry’s from 7 – 11; ice cream is ice cream right? Nope! There is ice cream and there is Five Pennies. There is nothing better than homemade ice cream and all of their flavored are amazing. I would suggest, though, to stick to traditional flavored as they seem richer than some of the more gimmicky flavors that are less creamy and more airy. For example, the chocolate and the vanilla are way better than the chocolate or vanilla based flavors with a bunch of toppings mixed in. Stick to the basics and you will never enjoy ice cream anywhere else.

Five pennies why couldn’t you be located closer to my house? It is so refreshing to find homemade ice cream. The owner is truly one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. Come here for an amazing treat and get great service as well. I had coconut and banana bread ice cream and both were delicious. My ritual is becoming Thai food for lunch and then heading to five pennies for dessert. See you soon five pennies.

I’m an Ice Cream fanatic!!! Thats probably an understatement… this is honestly some of the best ice cream i have ever had. They have a wide range of flavors– the expected regular flavors– but they shine where things start to get interesting. The lady behind the counter was very helpful and I’m so happy she recommended the SNOWMAN to me.(thank you) After trying out a few flavors i decided on the banana pudding(heaven), toasted coconut, and the snowman(indescribable) and the Cotton Candy flavor which is kind of hard to find was amazing… everything was amazing. Im not a local but its definitely worth the 45 minute drive to get a few scoops. :)

My coworker has been telling me about this place for the longest so I went to try it. It is a cute little ice cream shop in the heart of Rockville centre. They had so many flavors and the shop had the cutest décor. From a nice chandelier in the middle with writing on the walks and staff was nice. I ordered the smores flavor and it was amazing! There is a big parking lot behind the shop if you need parking and the place is a must try. I was highly satisfied with my experience at the five pennies creamery.

I love the old school style and the taste of the ice cream. It is slightly expensive for a brownie sundae which is my favorite but it honestly is worth it with the amount you get and the flavors you get when you eat it. I like to eat it rarely so i don’t get too sick of it so that when I do get it I can enjoy every bite :)

A beautiful ice cream shop with friendly and fantastic service. The serving sizes are a good size and the flavor is sweet and flavorful. The ice cream tends to lean on the slightly too sweet side, at times detracting from the flavor profiles inside the ice cream. However, still a delicious treat. The shop is warmly designed, beckoning of previous decades. There is just enough space for a group of friends to chat and catch up over this delicious treat. A great hangout place.

You have no idea what real ice cream is until you go to Five Pennies. It’s all hand made, fresh ice cream, with new and original flavors every months, and as someone who is really overweight, trust me when I tell you it is much better than any of those big chain stores. The staff is amazing, the prices are great, and most important of all the ice cream is amazing. Walking in there for the first time, it was like I had never tasted ice cream before! This is the only ice cream store I’ll be going to in the future!

I try to stay away from ice cream because I get obsessed with things quite easily, and over indulge. So yesterday after i went dress shopping with my niece, she begged me to go there. She was already a huge fan, and i can’t say no to my lil niece. First off the owner Daniel is awesome he kept giving me samples and recommended me so many! I think if I had enough time would have given me samples of each flavor available. I eventually ordered the Prailenes and Crème one(OMG) and the Oreo Cheesecake(another OMG) I have never had ice-cream with the perfect ratio of cookies, nuts, caramel, and ice cream, whatever. HEKNOWSHOWTOMAKEICECREAM! AMAZING!!! Must go!

really great ice cream, so light and airy! not too sweet and they have a lot of different options. They did remind me a bit of cold stone creamery but this place had character and definitely better ice cream. Staff was friendly and 2 orders of 2 scoops for about $ 9 not bad.

After hearing incredible things about this place from locals and being that I absolutely LOVE ice cream, I knew that I had to venture in. Upon entering I fell in the love with the décor — the whole place is based on a poem which is written on the walls and very cutesy/girly. If I were a teenage girl this is where I would want to be on a Friday night. I was already calculating a 5 star review in my mind. The staff was also very friendly and polite — on the road to 5 stars. But really, upon tasting the ice cream(rocky road and vanilla chip) I have to say… it’s not that amazing. There’s not much about this ice cream that makes me prefer it to what I buy in the supermarket and for that reason, I couldn’t really give it a great review. It’s just normal ice cream… nothing special like extra creaminess or interesting flavor combinations. So really, everything else but the ice cream was 5 star… so I recommend that the owners pay as much attention to the product being sold as they did to everything surrounding it.(Also, could clean up the store a big… a lot of stuff on the counters). Wanted to give this a better review, but this is truth. Stop in if you are in the area, but not necessary for a trip.

The employee was warm and kind to offer few samples and share some background of the store. We got one italian ice with a scoop of mango and one of lemon — it was so good!!! Also got a scoop of some coffee-oreo flavor and it was just okay to me. We will very likely return for more sweet treats to sample the huge variety of flavors.

Came here with the two chiclets. Loved it. You usually can’t go wrong with ice cream but this ice cream was exceptional. Super creamy with excellent variety. If you’re in the area stop by. They won’t dissapoint.

The place is really cute, with small unusual tables and dainty chairs and staffed with very friendly servers but on the day I went, silly me wanted to try the much touted banana pudding ice cream. Oh, no, I am being brainwashed by my fellow Unilocalers! I should have known to not request a flavor that was pretty much scraped up to the bottom of the barrel. That mistake, combined with a new server, who had to bend over and reach into the bottom of the barrel and scrape with no strength resulted in a measly cone that was barely a scoop. What I tasted of the banana pudding flavor didn’t impress me; it had a smooth and creamy mouth feel but tasted artificial, as if they used some commercial banana pudding mix to get the flavor. I didn’t taste any vanilla wafers at all in it but I think it was because it was just the last bits of ice cream the girl kept trying to scrounge up. Seriously, if there is so little ice cream left, break out another barrel. But she was green and didn’t even know how to ring up a cone and I didn’t use common sense in picking a flavor so I can’t blame her entirely. I should have tried my favorite, chocolate and opted out of the fancier flavors. But chocolate in all its incarnations is apparently not a favorite out here, I was informed. Thus, Five Pennies sells more mixed, off beat combinations. I’d definitely try this place again if I were in the area and give it another chance.

Variety we know this place has it. What to get? The Curious George has a cinnamon bite to it which as pretty nice. Ended up getting a sundae with Strawberry, Coffee Chip, and something with a day of the week in it’s name. I wouldn’t recommend the last one for a full cone or bowl. It’s really sweet and should be a small bite if anything. The other two were delicious. Will be back in about 3 months when I burn off all the calories from this. They do have fresh cherries for a sundae, but were plum out when we got there.
