My friends and I came here from Seattle so we might be a little more picky. The location was confusing because it is inside another restaurant but they have a Mexican menu. The drinks were good(margaritas) and the server was nice and efficient, however the Mexican food was not good. My carne asada was so chewy I had to keep spitting it out into my napkin, my friends enchilada were ok, and my other friend had a burger and he said it was terrible.

We have eaten here many times. The food is good and the drinks are excellent. They always remember us – even if we haven’t been in for 4 months. Because it is a small beach town, staffing can be a challenge and make the service inconsistent. Sometimes it is very slow but most times it is prompt and it’s always friendly.

Worst Mexican food ever – flavorless. The salsa was good, and the waitress was charming and attentive, but don’t go for the food.

My daughters chicken flautas were so dry and barely edible. Thankfully that’s how she likes her chicken, I found it disgusting. The salsa was bland and not spicy at all, the one thing I did good was the enchilada. I would not go back. The food at Rockaway Beach is pretty awful, best to just cook something up yourself.

We looked at the Google reviews before we left – they were mixed but my boyfriend was in the mood for Mexican and there’s few options for that in Rockaway. We ordered two terrible drinks to the tune of $ 17(which took 20 minutes), choked them down and went across the street to the Sand Dollar where we had great service and amazing food.

Went there 2 days ago as we are starting our camping trip. The wait for water, chips, drinks or ordering our food was soooooo long! Then someone used their bathroom and the smell of sewage filled the whole restaurant. The food was fresh but very blant, poured the whole tobacco sauce on it to be able to add some taste. The servers were really sweet and polite.

This was my second time eating at this establishment. It has always been my girlfriend’s favorite place to eat whenever she has found herself in Rockaway. My first visit back in April 2015 was fantastic. The hospitality and food were outsntanding. Unfortunately, the second time was a total bust. We ended up sitting at a dirty table where it took 5 minutes or so for the bus service to come clean it, another 5 minutes for the complimentary chips to arrive. The server had 4 other tables. I think had she actually acknowledged us, then we probably would have stayed. I set the alarm on my phone for 10 minutes. It went off with no acknowledgement from anyone. So we got up to leave and as we walked out, she finally acknowledged us and said sorry. We went across the street to the Sand Dollar and had a table, drinks and dinner within 12 minutes.

This place had the worst service I have had in some time. I am guessing our server was the manager/owner or something. He came to our table only when the table of locals summoned him for something, other than that he was nonexistent. I ordered chile verde it came to me dry. About ten minutes into not eating my meal our server popped up again enabling me to ask for the verde sauce that was supposed to have already been on my plate. Through a feat of cooking magic, my rice was partially undercooked and partially over cooked. None of it was cooked properly. My flour tortillas had obviously been microwaved, half of each of them was hard as a rock. My fiancé asked a server that wasn’t our server for a side of ranch. The server said ok let me go tell your server. Our server came back to our table by the time the other server«found» him. She then told him that our table needed some more ranch. Minutes later she came back with a side of ranch. Why didn’t she just go and get it herself the first time you ask? I have no clue… Medium length story short, don’t eat here, unless you are a local, or are very patient.

Our second time at Dos Rocas. Fantastic service and food. Helpful, attentive service. Only three tables with customers on a week night in May. Good beer selection. Substitutions were no problem, like salad instead of rice/beans and Decaf in my Spanish coffee. Dinner for 2 with 4 drinks about $ 70 but worth it in my opinion. We will be back. Enjoy!

The halibut fish tacos are sooooo damn good. I wish I could just eat those for the rest of my life.(the sauce they put in the taco is the best part. The fish is flakey and cook just right. The owner is super nice and talkative. Will always continue to come here. Also, you can tell they don’t put SMG in the food, I think that’s why some of these other reviews say the food is flavorless. It’s not flavorless at all. My boyfriend did say the carna was a little over cooked but still delicious.

Sunday evening in Rockaway Beach so there are limited food options. My boyfriend and I decided Mexican sounded good but we’re disappointed with the food. He ordered enchiladas that were very dry and lacked flavor. I ordered chicken taquitos and was served a small plate spilling over with shredded lettuce topped with 3 petite taquitos, a dab of sour cream and guacamole and the pico de gallo consisted of diced tomatoes. They chicken in my taquitos was very dry and bland. The chips were stale but the salsa was okay. The atmosphere was quiet but the art on the walls was nice. Our server was sweet and helpful but overall the food was definitely not up to par and we would not go back, especially considering the prices. Sorry Dos Rocas…

We ate on a Sat evening and when we arrived only one other party was there – a table of 4 – 5 adults. That said, the service was slow and inattentive. Our waiter, when he did come by our table, was overly cheery, but most of the time it was hard to find him and when he asked how our food was and we replied, «um, OK, I guess» he quipped«GREAT! Sounds perfect!» and skipped away. First off – the chips and salsa were great. Really great. Great enough that I would have liked a refill on those but none were forthcoming and it was nearly impossible to catch the eye of a worker to ask for more(or more water, or anything, for that matter…) Now for the food – I ordered the halibut fish tacos. I find it incredible that some say these are the best fish tacos they’ve ever had but I guess our tastes differ. I’ll describe and you decide: The menu said it has a «cilantro special sauce» and since I love cilantro, I chose this entrée. When they arrived, on the first bite, all I could taste was pickles! I asked the waiter(as I was scraping off the horrid sauce) if they added pickles he said«Oh, that’s jalapeño and cilantro tartar sauce as the menu described it!» Um, no. The menu DID not say tartar sauce anywhere and if it had, I would not have ordered the fish tacos. I couldn’t taste ANY cilantro. And the fish? One large chunk of deep-fried batter halibut per taco. Not the lovely flaky lime-marinated fish one usually gets in fish tacos. The accompanying rice and beans were merely OK – bland, but edible and not the tasty dish one usually gets in Mexican restaurants. Oh, and the guacamole was not fresh! Pretty sure if I went back to the kitchen, I’d find a gigantic plastic bag of that pre-made stuff – you could taste the preservatives. My husband got the chicken enchiladas and they had hardly any red sauce. My daughter’s «raspberry lemonade» had the distinct taste of a powdered mix. Ugh. Others in our party ordered chicken quesadillas and beef tacos, all of which were merely OK. We had lots left on each of our plates and except for ½ of a chicken quesadilla, we didn’t bother taking any of the leftovers home. Who would want to repeat that meal?(Our dog did like the chicken quesadilla, I will admit). So, if you like McDonald’s-level Mexican food at 3−4x the price, this is your place. Otherwise, pass it by.

Wanted a quick bite to eat for around 20 dollars. I was here before and it was okay but after my last visit, I don’t think I’ll be back. We were served shriveled up freezer burnt«grilled prawns» which we sent back. Next were the nachos that had no flavor and were served with stale chips. The waitor took the shrimp off the bill so I was a little surprised when a nacho and a virgin bloody Mary and margarita came to 30 dollars. Turns out my regular sized margarita was 8.50 and the virgin bloody mary was 8 dollars for basically a small glass of tomato juice!

Nothing special and very slow service. Being one of only a few restaurants in town, they were packed, so it took a long time to get our order taken and even longer to get our food. They were very understaffed. There were several times I wished I would have been able to get water… to no avail. Maybe my expectations were too high on the food, but it was really only ok at best. The carne asada in the burrito was flavorless and super tough. The one positive is that the burrito portions were huge. Prices were a little high, but it’s because portions were big, so it makes sense. They also had 17 beers on tap, great variety. They get 1 star just for that.

Great little find. Good service, fresh Guacemole, nice tacos. Given this is a little Beach town we were quite pleased.

Well, who knew? Had an absolutely wonderful lunch here last weekend. There aren’t too many choices in Rockaway, so we ended up here. I completely loved my chicken enchilada suiza. We had great service from a nice, neat waiter as well. Only downside? The ice tea tasted like it had been made in a dirty coffee pot. Totally awful.

Not going to lie. We were scared to eat here. It’s difficult to eat out in small towns. I was here with two Dallas peeps. If you know Dallas, you know there’s no shortage of good Mexican food. I was nervous for this meal. I assumed I’d hear a lot of complaining. Instead, it was completely silent at our table. Honestly, I’m not too picky with Mexican food. I mean, I eat crunchwrap supremes and enjoy them! Even when Mexican food is bad, it’s not THAT bad. I am, however, picky about my verde and mole. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with verde sauce. This is probably my most-ordered Mexican meal. They were outstanding. The mexican rice was perfect. The verde reminded me of Santeria. I would definitely come back here during a beach weekend.

The chips and salsa were excellent – unfortunately, everything else was utterly awful. When the waitress brought our drinks 30 minutes after we were seated, and a Daquiri turned into a Pina Colada, we were very forgiving when we were told it was to be comped. We were less impressed, however, when the check arrived and the waitress insisted on arguing with us that she had explained we would be charged. Were that the only issue we had at Dos Rocas, maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad. But, given the slow, inattentive service and mediocre food(wow was that chicken dry), I will not be returning. Afterwards I spoke with the«manager» to voice my concerns, which were met with defense and answered without apologies. Furthermore, as I write this, I sit here with a mild stomachache. I will be avoiding this restaurant at all costs and recommending to others that they avoid it as well. Rockaway is a beautiful town, it’s too bad that this restaurant is of such poor quality – both in terms of food and service.

Every time I’m in Rockaway I try to get back in here for some good food. My first experience was great. After we received our chips and salsa, I was offered a hotter option which was a butter/garlic salsa that was a house specialty. !!! I want to bottle and sell that salsa on the black market to heat lovers like myself. I had the chicken fajitas as I always do, and I was not disappointed. I washed it all down with a nice cold Pacifico. Food flavor and portion size was good, service was good and friendly, location and ambiance was small and quaint like you’d expect in Rockaway, nothing too fancy. I’ll definitely be back again if I can help it.
