I have been coming to John Taylor for many years. From my past experiences I would rate hair 3/5, makeup 2/5, pedicures 2⁄5(too expensive), massages 5⁄5(when Wes was working there). John Taylor had been a place where I frequently bought certificates as gifts for people. However, after my last experience here, I will not be returning or purchasing gifts for others here. In June I had come to JT to receive a massage. When my massage was complete and I had paid, I asked the gal at the front desk about an expired gift certificate that I had. I told her that I realized the certificate was very old(2003 to be exact) but wanted to check to see if it had any value for product, since that is what is stated on the actual certificate. She wasn’t sure and couldn’t find it in the computer system for some reason, so she said that she would take the certificate, ask a manager, and give me a call. Great! After two weeks of not hearing from anyone, I called JT to check up. When I explained the situation to the girl at the desk over the phone, she said that she wasn’t sure and that she would ask the manager. When she returned to the phone, her answer was simply«my manager says that Illinois law states certificates after 2011 are no longer valid». I was thoroughly confused about what law this was, so I asked her to clarify. She just said, «that is what my manager said.» I then asked if I could speak with the manager. When the manager/owner, I believe Lynn, got on the phone, all she said, in a very snippy tone, was«Illinois law says that we do not have to honor certificates which are more than 5 years old, per a law created in 2011.» Still being genuinely confused by what this law exactly meant, I asked her if there was a website I could look the law up on. Her response was«the internet» in a very defensive manner. I asked, «any specific website?». Her response, «nope». Her tone throughout this whole conversation was very snotty, aggressive, annoyed, and rude. I was fed up with being treated this way so I asked her, «why are you being such a B to me? I am a long time customer and»…she hung up on me. I understand I could have used a better term, however, to be spoken to by the owner of a business this way because I had a question was quite unacceptable. I then tried to call back to tell them that I wanted my physical certificate back and was put on hold and never spoken to. Called from my husband’s work phone, same thing. After calling and speaking/explaining the situation to one of the staff members at the casino location, she called them and had them mail my certificate to me. I was not looking for some huge monetary amount from my very old certificate. Actually, if the girl at the front desk would have told me right then and there that there was nothing she could do for me, I would have been fine with that. But not being called back after 2 weeks, being spoken to and treated the way I was, is unacceptable. If there is an Illinois law stating these terms, fine. But don’t be rude. John Taylor, you have lost my business and my recommendation. You are not the only business in this field, and there are plenty of other comparable spas in the area.

Wife and I took a spa day while staying at Jumers Hotel in Rock Island. Had couples massage and pedicures. Great experience that we honestly enjoyed. This location is pretty small but they still did an amazing job. Cannot wait to go back.

I have been going here for many years for my hair and spa needs. They have always been very accommodating with my needs, wants etc. I have referred many people also. I feel their prices are on point. Pricey for some I understand but, the stylist(especially Leah) are very much worth that and more. If I could change one thing it would be the music. I feel like it is outdated compared to the clients and salon style. I will continue to be a customer for a very long time.

Service, honesty, integrity… Everything positive you can review about a place suffered at this spa/salon. I left this place feeling terrible. For background, we came here as a bridal party of six to get hair and makeup done. We were told both would be $ 115. We had to take pictures for the wedding at 11am, and the front desk promised we’d all be done by two hours. We asked if we could come in by 8am, and they ensured us again we’d be finished by 11am, so we kept our 9am appointment. Stepping into the spa, you could tell communication and direction suffered. I had to wait ten minutes for my hair specialist. She did my hair without consulting the bride what she wanted(I told her we all needed the same hair). She ended up needing to redo my hair(wasting almost half an hour) because she insisted my hair be done a certain way. I shrugged it off, but it wasted valuable time. Makeup: atrocious. First of all, the first time, my eyes were colored blue and black with shiny purple eye-shadow. I looked like a clown. I told my makeup specialist that I didn’t like it, so she fixed it to look more natural. Unevenly colored my eyebrows(which I told her she needed to fill in), drew a straight line for winged liner(told her she needed to fix that), forgot my lipstick, and did an terrible job with my lashes. I had to ask a different artist to fix my lashes. I honestly don’t think my specialist has ever worked with a face like mine(Asian, hooded lids, thick brows). I could’ve done a better job, and I pretty much had to tell her what she did wrong and how to fix it. I was so upset… This experience felt amateur. Remember how I told you we were told it would be $ 115? They charged me $ 153, and told me convoluted and descriptive reasons why it cost more. I argued that I asked for a service, was told this service cost a certain price, received said(albeit awful) service, and therefore should pay exactly how much I was promised. Told me filling in my eyebrows and adding fake lashes cost an extra $ 25. I was livid; not only was I not told of these charges, but I was so unhappy with my makeup. They finally agreed to $ 138(still $ 23 more than what I was told I would pay). Whatever, this was all for the bride, and I didn’t want to stress her out. Speaking of the bride, she was in tears. Her hair was not done as promised. No, this was not a bride moment; when she had gotten her trail hair run at this salon, it looked amazing. This time, her hair was too big, almost trashy. They promised to fix it, but it took so long. Remember when they promised we’d be done in two hours? It had been past three hours. Bride was in more tears because we missed pictures and her hair was still not what she was promised. Broken promises, terrible service, terrible makeup. Never, ever again. I do not recommend this place to anyone. They charge you extra without telling you, take longer than they promise, and they give you so much attitude. Felt lied to and cheated, and I hated my makeup. Thanks John Taylor salon.
