Rory is everywhere! How does he do it? He’s created a great following with his pop-up cart at events and at different local businesses throughout the week. I most often grab his coffee at Scratch Bakeshop. He’s usually there on Sundays. … Thursday afternoons at Fiorella. Fridays/Saturdays at The Playhouse. I go for the americano or an iced latte w/almond milk. Recently tried a hot cocoa made with Hedonist chocolate sauce. Perfection. Keep an eye out for him out and about. Keep tabs on his whereabouts on his Instagram(@uglyduckcoffee). Grab a coffee, snap a pic. Can’t wait for his storefront on Charlotte St. to open!

I’ve had the pleasure of catching Ugly Duck popped up all over the city, and am always happy with the outcome. The coffee? Fantastic. The customer service? Exceptional. Rory is great about educating his customers on what they’re drinking, and making suggestions. I look forward to a brick & mortar location soon!

I recently had my mind blown by an espresso tonic from the pop-up espresso bar, Ugly Duck Coffee. A newbie in the Rochester craft coffee scene, Ugly Duck is embracing the trendy pop-up business model; they are a portable bar that sets up shop at different locales at scheduled dates/times. I happened to try them on a recent visit to Scratch Bakeshop(a perfect fit for the hip bakery that doesn’t serve drinks). Okay, on to the drink itself! Barista Rory paired Gimme Coffee! espresso with a fancy tonic water I’d never seen(espresso-to-tonic ratio of about 1:2), and poured it over ice. SO delicious, and refreshing; this is how I want to drink my espresso all summer! Also on their short menu: espresso, macchiato, cappuccino, almond milk latte. Docked 1 star for it being a bit pricey– $ 5 for my one 6 oz drink– but it was still worth it. Looking forward to seeing this shop pop-up elsewhere!
