We visited the Sakura on a field trip to the museum of play. They have the groupon option now, which is very nice. The hibachi grill room is big with at least 8 tables, they also have private VIP rooms with hibachi grill. However, when we came in on a weekend noon, there were pretty empty. Our group choose the lunch hibachi with some seafood, steak and chicken. The taste of the meal was ok except the fried rice was mushy. Fired noodle was way better than the rice option, kind of doubt how they keep the rice. The service was mediocre, and they automatically added 20% on the tip! I understand usually when restaurant make those groupon marketing deal, they tended make it up elsewhere, but this is not what I expected. I probably won’t revisit next time when in town.

Amazingly good quality sushi! I would’ve given it a 5 Star but I would love to see new dishes or specials. I come here every month to every other month and I see the same rolls everytime! However their food is always consistent and customer service by the waitstaff is superb. I love their white tuna tataki appetizer, scallop hibachi, and their scorpion roll(pretty much all sushi is good)

Beautiful restaurant with a spacious bar with a piano. Hibachi was really good. Soup was ok, I much prefer miso. This was a mushroom broth. Salad dressing was a little too creamy for me but not bad. Our Hibachi chef was awesome(don’t forget to tip them when they are done) all in all a very nice evening.

For the Hibachi Restaurant: standard hibachi food, the chefs are good but not great, they dont do anything outside the standard ‘show’ items– aka, rolling the egg, the volcano with the onions and the throwing rice balls at folks. I have actually thought the show at these places were shorter and not as impressive as others in the area. They also do pressure you to finish eating and leave so they can get other tables in(but I think thats standard for these types of restaurants). Sushi/Restaurant portion: I typically have sat in here considering on weekend night the line is heavy for the hibachi portions and we typically get sushi. You can order anything off the hibachi menu and eat it at the table as well– might be a good option if you do not care about the ‘show’ as much. I have had good experience with the sushi here, quick service. Standard, okay food across the board. Would probably go back; but better options and wouldnt necessarily recommend.

First let me say, the place looks awesome, staff are friendly, and the service was excellent, 3 stars because of minor things i have noticed. The hibachi and sushi we ordered was slightly OK. First the hibachi chief didn’t really speak and didn’t smile, kinda mysterious as to why, maybe he was new or didn’t know English well. We asked for medium rare on our steak, but they ended up being fully cooked, so that was disappointing. Working and commuting in NYC, PA, and NJ area i expected noodles to be included but they weren’t and that kinda surprised me. Sushi tasted good but fell apart really easily and felt was rushed when crafted… Overall the price was OK and the portion were OK, not a bad price point and location, maybe i just got the bad or new chief, my luck. Will have to visit other places and update back soon.

We were seated approximately 40 minutes after arriving, even though we made a reservation. No one else was waiting for a table. Once were sat, we waited another 30 minutes to be given soup and drinks. After another 15 minutes we were given our salads, a smaller portion than what they used to serve and the dressing was watered down. Another 20 minutes before the chef came, who forgot one of the table member’s entrées, and our chicken was under cooked. Part of the table asked for their meal to be cooked without mushrooms so the entire table did not get any. Terrible service and an overall bad experience.

Just went here for dinner. Had a really nice time. Server was friendly and attentive. We ordered calamari appetizer, was very good! Then ordered spicy crunchy salmon, shrimp tempura, and spicy crab. Everything was tasty. Our favorite was the spicy crunchy salmon. Yummy.

The ambiance is really nice and inviting. We reserved a table of 7 in a private room. The service was friendly and efficient. Ordered the shrimp tempura roll, it was very good. We also started with the calamari which was also very good. Everyone at our table ordered the filet mignon hibachi meal and chicken hibachi meal. The soup and salad were decent. The meal portions were very small compared to if you were sitting at the hibachi table. A bit of a disappointment since you are paying the same price($ 25 for filet). The filet was very grizzly and fatty, all of us that ordered the«filet» agreed that it didn’t taste like filet. The next day all of us that ate the filet were sick, not sure if that’s just a coincidence or what but… On a more positive note the tempura ice cream we ordered was delicious! This used to be one of my favorite places for hibachi but the next time I go(if I ever do) I think I will avoid the meals and just stick with sushi or appetizers.

We used to love this place but the last couple of visits have been mediocre. Everytime we come, the bartender clearly doesn’t know how to make drinks. For example, I ordered a mudslide and she gave us an iced kahlua in a large shot glass that tasted like it was watered down. When my husband(who used to bartend) showed her a photo and recipe for a mudslide(which should clearly be blended with ice, not simply poured into ice) the bartender got defensive and just kept saying no repeatedly. Which was very odd, considering we were being patient and polite with her. Simply put, she sucks at bartending and no stars for her! Otherwise, hibachi and sushi are delicious and we LOVE the sushi chefs who are very accommodating. I wish i could give more stars here but wait time and staff have gone downhill.

I’m updating my review for this restaurant. I brought my guests to the restaurant again because my last experience with it was pleasant. But this time is a disaster. It really depends on who is your chef. My chef this time cooked awful foods. He seemed in a hurry. Everything tastes salty. I didn’t finish the food, neither did most of the guests on my table. I ordered the combo of fillet, scallop, shrimp and beef, all of which taste the same! The cooking performance was shorter than all other tables. My chef is the one in the video I uploaded. If you go there and meet him, hopefully he can be in a better mood. I recommend sharing a plate with your friend, because one order is too much for one person. I’m sad because one of my favorite restaurants in Rochester disappointed me:(The following is the review I wrote during my last visit. I really enjoyed the meal. It’s expensive compared to other places in Rochester, but the food and cooking performance are good. I’m so glad Rochester has a place like this. Oh BTW, Plum Wine is tasty!

I wasn’t particularly blown away by my experience at this establishment. The waiter seemed to be in a rush to get us to leave. The food itself was fine– I had a lovely tempura. If you want Japanese cuisine quickly, this is the place to go. Just not my taste.

One of the best sushi restaurants in the area. I think the best part of the meal was the sashimi and the nigiri. We had sushi for two, which had a great variety of sashimi and sushi. We had the dragon roll, which was a little underwhelming. I preferred the sashimi to the rolls here.

I’ve been to many hibachi restaurants around the east coast and this one is pretty average. Prices are about the same for any Japanese cuisine restaurant but the chef we had wasn’t really talkative, didn’t introduce himself but was nice. It was like 8 ish so that may have been a factor. Another thing that i thought was a minus on my part was that they didn’t Include noodles and overcooked veggies. Will probably come back and give this place another chance but there are better places in Rochester

Sakura Home is a aesthetically pleasing when you walk in. The décor is simple and classic. The Japanese bridge-over-the-pond near the entrance adds a lovely touch. I was hoping to see a real cherry blossom tree next to it too! When they first opened, I had my birthday dinner there in the private room behind the sushi bar. It fit about 20 people comfortably. We were able to dine, close the doors and karaōke our hearts away. We had a blast. I know the room is still there, but I’m not sure if they still offer private parties in there. As far as food and flavor, my sushi experiences have been better than hibachi. The sushi was fresh and flavorful, but I remember the portions to be smaller and pricier than their competition. The hibachi flavors were okay. The portions in relation to price were okay. The hibachi show was okay. Nothing other than the rice ball to my face hit me with that ‘wow’ factor. The hibachi shows varied depending on the chef. Most included the basics like the rice ball, the volcano, the egg toss. Some gave a little extra like including the sparks from the volcano or tapping the salt/pepper shaker against the end of their spatula. Some chefs are chatty, while others may just get down to business. It’s pretty loud in the room already so use your outdoor voices. It’s very noticeable when there’s a sake bomb order. I’ve witnessed this ritual more than once. The server shouts«sake» and the group taking the drink shouts«bomb» and then bangs their fists on the table a few times before tossing the sake shot into the glass of beer and throwing it back. If you’re a wallflower, then I would advise you to dine elsewhere on your birthday. They bring out birthday desserts with a gong!

I am not a huge fan of Hibachi, I feel it’s mostly about the whole show of making the food, and not really about the food itself. For the money I rather get well prepared food than someone throwing balls of rice to my face. I’ve been to Sakura Home before, for sushi and drinks. I had a great experience and felt that the sushi was great. But recently I ended up having Hibachi for a work lunch. So I figured it was time for a review of the place As I said before, their sushi and drinks are very tasty, and it turns out that their Hibachi is very tasty also. Normally I find the Hibachi fried rice and meats to lack any flavor, just griddled and bland, but Sakura’s was well seasoned and the meat cooked to my preference(rare for steak). I would go to Sakura for sushi, but if my friends want Hibachi in Rochester, this is definitely where I will take them!

Decent place, what a refinishing inside compared to the last business. The kimchi tofu was really good, chicken udon had little flavor. The rolls seemed fresh, evenly rolled n stuffed. Spicy tuna was barely tasty, the yellowtail jalapeño was crunchy with plenty of jalapeño.

I have been eating sushi for over 30 years from NYC to Maui. This is my favorite choice in Monroe County The Angry Dragon is always a favorite roll. If you love sushi I am certain you will adore this choice. Sakura added a nice appetizer. two good sized lamb chops. Of course it is not a typical Japanese item but non the less it tasted great. My new favorite Sakura appetizer item which is new this year is what I call the Salmon Spoons. I could eat 20 of these spoons. If you like caviar there is a relatively new roll that has caviar in it. Those who like caviar love this new roll. I am not a true caviar lover but none the less I do enjoy sharing the roll with my wife. My wife loves both caviar and this specific roll. There are always new items here at Sakura some that you would not expect at a Japanese restaurant. I can remember a few years ago that twinkies was going out of business. Sakura had a desert that was fried twinkies covered with chocolate. I am not a desert lover but I remeber seeing people fighting for the item as they were afraid they may not get a chance. Our family call Sakura a Sushifusion or possibly Sushilicious. Maybe slightly pricey but I am never sorry when I l come here.

If you haven’t been to Sakura in the past few weeks, it’s time to give it a chance again. Their best Sushi Chef has returned! Ken is Back! His sushi is creative without becoming an overcomplicated mess of flavor and texture. They have some of the better cuts of Tuna on the menu again; say hello to Toro(fatty tuna), it’s the candy of the tuna world! The atmosphere is a lovely modern elegant feel with a great water feature in the divide between the bar and restaurant dining room. For an always-fun experience, sit in the hibachi area and take in the show. Or perhaps you’re seeking a more private experience for your group, then book the Tatami room. They are definitely getting back on the right track and oh did I mention that Ken is back!

Great restaurant. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman and luckily got a very friendly waiter as well. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, with interesting decorations and a pretty neat bridge to your right as you step in. On to the food. One word, AMAZING. I’ve had sushi at many restaurants around Rochester area, and the fish here is fresh and as you can see, they don’t cut it so thin that you can’t even taste it. Nice fat slices that just melt in your mouth. Definitely returning soon in the future.

Sakura Home is my go-to place when my friends want hibachi. The parking is a nightmare(as is turning out of the parking lot onto Monroe Ave). The interior is fairly new and is nicer than most hibachi places in this area. The hibachi chefs are pretty social and they don’t give you crap if you decline to catch a rice ball(it is against my Asian«faith» to waste rice because you know I am never going to catch that thing). They do the standard«set the table on fire», spinning eggs and onion volcano tricks. As far as the food — hibachi is more about the cooking experience than the actual food. The hibachi options here are standard — they range from $ 16 to $ 30(chicken to lobster) and include 2 pieces of shrimp, fried rice, vegetables, soup and salad. They taste exactly like you would expect something seasoned with just soy sauce to taste. Not bad, not great. They do give you 2 dipping sauces and I like the ginger based one to dip everything in. That and Sriracha(which they will give you if you ask). The specialty sushi rolls here are overpriced. One of the rolls supposedly has king crab salad on it. I ordered it once and it was just imitation crab. I was a little upset given the roll was $ 18ish. The fish has always been fresh so I recommend sticking to their sashimi and simple rolls. Steer clear of the calamari(poorly fried… the coating was chalky and calamari extremely rubbery). The yoshinabe soup($ 6.95) literally had a handful of noodles, 1 shrimp, 2 slices of fish cake and 3 rings of calamari. The seafood tasted like it had been triple cooked — chewy. The broth however was really flavourful. My advice would be to stick to the raw fish or hibachi. Don’t waste time with appetizers. They have a full bar and my friends enjoy the cocktails there. Don’t forget to make reservations because their wait gets ridiculous on the weekends(also, note that they won’t seat you till everyone is there). Hibachi is rarely my first choice for dining out but Sakura Home will satisfy the occasional craving.
