People’s Pottery

I vist this store every year when I come home to visit. This is my favorite store in Rochester. It is a combination gift store and jewelry store. Some of the jewelry is expensive, but much of it is affordable and unlike anything I have seen. I always go in and buy gifts. The women that run this store are so friendly and helpful. I love the selection and only wish they would start a website to sell online so I could buy things more often. This store is as good as it gets.

People’s Pottery is a great shopping experience. When you first walk in, you’re surrounded by cases of mid– to high-​end glittering jewelry, but there are definitely items for all price ranges — I spotted a pair of gorgeous giant stud faux gemstone earrings for $ 14 on a display stand toward the back. The salespeople are very helpful, and there’s usually some light refreshment available (even if you’re not buying diamonds).
The two main focuses are jewelry and art — vases and such — in addition to a few odds-​and-​ends. There are a few adorable Christmas ornaments toward the front of thee shop. The giant paper star-​shaped lights in the window are for sale, and — if I recall correctly — not super pricey, either. There’s a neat stand of bracelets near the register that supports charities — each color represents a different cause.
People’s Pottery is a local store that features work by artisans. There is one other People’s Pottery; it is located in Florida. (If I had to hazard a guess, my money is that this store started here and then migrated to the owner’s winter home in Florida … I don’t know many people who start in Florida and then say, «You know what I need? Some blustery winters. Let’s check out Rochester, NY.»)

Every time I’m in Rochester visiting friends I stop in at People’s Pottery! It is such a cool store stocked with the most beautiful gift items and jewelry you can imagine! The staff is so helpful and they really go out of their way to help. I was looking for a special gift and Carla found the perfect thing! It’s a must stop shop.

My first stop when I’m looking for a ‘wearable art’ gift or something similar for a female recipient. I may not be observant or imaginative enough, but I haven’t seen anything in here I’d consider giving to a guy.
Everything in this store has been carefully chosen to appeal to someone who appreciates pottery-​based tchotchkes (many whimsical and some semi-​practical), hand crafted jewelery, and pieces designed and fabricated by artisans. Most items are glass, metal and pottery based.
This isn’t my kind of place, but the staff is attentive and it’s such a pure flavor and caters to such a specific clientle it’s easy to guess who’d like a gift from here.
