Dick’s Sporting Goods

Good selection of merchandise and equipment, but the prices!!! Really!!! Even their «clearance» is eye-​watering. I’m from Texas, and Academy beats Dicks day in, day out — plus with all the online options, who do they think they’re kidding? ;)

Dicks is a great place to pick up basically any major thing you need for any different type of sport. The prices are not great and you are normally better off going to a local shop where they actually know about the stuff they are selling and can help you out.

There are few instances these days where I can say I get exceptional customer service. Dicks Sporting Goods in Henrietta has provided just that for me for the last two years. When I was looking up their hours I was shocked to see the bad reviews.
Our family of five is very active in sports and and strength training fitness. With the help of Gordon (one of the employees in the fitness section) and Marilyn (the woman who is a pillar at the registers at this location) I have pieces together an affordable yet AMAZING home gym. Gordon went above and beyond to help me get what I needed at a price far lower than I was prepared to pay. It helps that I gets lots of rewards and coupons too ;)
We purchase all of our baseball equipment and probably 90% of our wardrobes from here as well. Returns are never a hassle and the employees are always great! It’s really a shame that consumers only take the time to write bad reviews as I’m sure there are 1,000’s of customers who have had the same experiences as my family and I. GREAT JOB DICKS HENRIETTA!!!

It’s huge but empty. When I mean empty, I truly mean that even though there is merchandise everywhere, there are no employees to be found at all except at the checkout lines. Don’t plan on asking for help as there is none to be sought, but if you like to shop on your own… this won’t bother you as much.
Not complaining on the stuff sold; they have a great selection of sports and exercise gear. The downside to this? This is a pricey store, so unless your willing to see your wallet weep, try another sporting good store.

True Confession: I’m not a sporty dude. I don’t buy sporting goods. What I do know is this… the overhead for this store MUST be massive. Which means that they need to mark up their goods accordingly. My sister gave me a shirt from Dick’s for XMas that I returned. Was shocked to find out it cost $ 80. I went around the store trying to find something else to buy & walked out empty handed. This is not a discount store… I’d rather shop at Sears or Target for exercise togs.
This store has an empty, cavernous feel to it. Absolutely NO customer service… if you like to walk around a store without EVER being approached by a sales associate, this is the place for you.

I had a small window of opportunity to do some shopping in Rochester this past weekend and I spent 20 minutes going around the store trying to find the Buffalo Bills gear and found absolutely nothing. 2 hours later, on my way out of the store, I spied the gear hidden in a corner behind a number of racks that blocked the view. Major Marketing FAIL, Dick’s!!! Rochester has a HUGE Buffalo fan base, so why hide the gear where it can’t be found? I ended up buying all my gear somewhere else, not only because I could easily find it elsewhere, but at the end of the day, I found Dick’s prices to be about 20% higher than the other sports stores in the Mall.
When Dick’s was on the other side of Hylan Drive (maybe I’m dating myself here), it was the place to go for sporting goods needs and local team wear. I remember the «Stomp the Steelers» «Squish the Fish» and Bury the Bears” style T-​shirts one could buy at that store. The place catered to local sports fans! Heck, I had even bought my hunting gear and work boots there. Now? It’s hard to separate Dick’s from the fact that it’s a national chain — 20 years ago it didn’t have that feel or reputation and now it looks like every other 2-​story Dick’s around the country.
