Unassuming storefront with great food. Some of the dishes are family style and you can ask for extra rice. It looks like it’s family run and there the grandparents cook the food. We had Szechuan chicken, chow fun, some roast pork, and beef and broccoli. It was all very flavorful without feeling too greasy. They actually have a large menu with many varieties of Asian food. So I’ll have to try the Vietnamese at another time. A step up from the other Chinese I’ve had in the area. I would order takeout from here if it’s the same caliber as what we got in the restaurant. Definitely go again.

A non descript place, parking, you walk in no biggie your greeted and sit where you like. Large menu your hostess is cool and than all of a sudden Grandma shows up too. If you have questions on food no problem, they will also teach you to pronounce the Vietnamese words. My friend and I wanted Tea and Phở we got it. Other people were in the restaurant but it almost felt so, so intimate. Your left alone literally others had to find our hostess but no biggie. They give you enough room, they want you to relax and enjoy your time. Phở is full of great stuff I got the Special phở and you get all the fixings like bean shoots, Thai Basil, Lime and brown sauce(savory) and yes hot sauce broth is flavorful, noodles filling. My friend got the chicken version also very filling. We had oolong tea and just had a nice visit while slurping up our phở. I felt like I was at grandmas house. Visit, enjoy have some food or takeout. It’s the hole in the wall that you should go into. Just go… Seriously

Five stars for a number of reasons. I lived in Rochester for a long time… I grew up around the corner from Dac Hoa and back in the 1990’s anything that wasn’t a hot wing was considered exotic and incredible. Of course I went to Mamasans and tried to nab the Weases’ table or The King and I for a plate of something reminiscent of a good ol musical but Dac Hoa was a STAPLE. My parents would roll us up in our Oldsmobile and we would kick it with spring rolls and Phở. Times were good, and the authenticity of their cuisine(although it passed me by at the time) kept us coming back again and again. And again, 18 years later… When we revisited with some old friends. Folks, the owners remembered us and OURORDER. Our ORDER. She knew my mom liked no shells on her shrimp! WHAT? How many people have walked through their doors since 1996??? Good review starts here — still great low $$$ Vietnamese foods. They’ve expanded their menu to cover some Thai, Chinese, and Malay but the real highlight is the Phở and Bun. Little mom and pop places like this go under ALLTHETIME. That they’ve been in the same joint for 25 years should be enough proof — they’re on it. Drop your phone, get in your car, eat Phở. Be happy.

Fresh shrimp spring rolls have so much flavor and you cannot go wrong with the Egg Roll and Xa Xiu Pork with Cold Vermicelli! So delicious every time. Getting takeout is key as the sit down area lacks ambiance. It’s all about what you order at doc-hoa. Stick with appetizers, vermicelli, the Vietnamese specialities and you’ll have a very satisfying dinner.

So I came here last week with a friend who speaks mandarin. He was able to communicate with our waitress speaking mandarin. I have no idea what was said or ordered through out the whole meal… it was awesome. Whatever we did order was very spicy and delicious. My friend who lived in china for two years said this is authentic chinese food taste like. The lady working there was so sweet and kind. We will definitely be coming back again.

This restaurant has a good menu with lots of choices. As of late I have been on a Phở kick and I have to say, they have amazing Phở. The service is always good and the owner is very friendly. I come in for lunch a day or two a week and you see some of the same faces which is always a good thing.

Like what others have said about this not being as good as others claim it to be, I stand on this. This restaurant is what I call the«Fall of an Empire». I don’t know about its time, when it shined and its Pax Romana, but all shine has become no more than lackluster. In essence, Tony Bennett’s lyrics of «The glory that was Rome, is of another day» perfectly describes this restaurant. Should you venture into this place, take a look at the decorations and«ambiance» and you will know what I am talking about. Food aside it was okay, nothing to write home about or declare«there’s an orgasm in my mouth!». If you are hungry and looking for something ethnic cuisine and you are in the Arts neighborhood, sure give this place a try.

The service is fantastic. Lou is almost always there to take good care of you. The did is delicious. My favorite is their roasted duck, it’s a fantastic dish. The egg drop soup is great, not overly thick. If you go more than once they will remember your favorite dish and ask if you want it again. Always make your feel at home.

Now why this rating? I’m sticking strictly to the best Chinese Bar B QUE available in this area. Roast Duck very high quality duck which is not true everywhere. roast pork with crisp perfectly done crackling skin, bar b que pork, plus if you are an Anthony Bourdain fan but can’t travel to Asia all kinds if innards which can be an adventure. Though years ago these all hung in the window they are all there and an order for variety of take home can last several days. Yes old school, not fast food, no décor, requires patience, but the owner is a gem of another time and place and has been mentioned has a remarkable memory of her customers; and where some of the conversation can be a bit of a challenge, that’s part of the transformation from what can be cookie cutter experiences. Oh yes, the plants may look a bit worse for wear, they are actually old friends that have survived a couple of generations, and since they are not fake plastic can be dammed hard to dust. HBF

They have Chinese BBQ — location looks dated, but the people working are nice. I ordered some bbq chicken — the cut was not done well, so the bones were hard to work through even with my Asian mouth. Flavor was good though.

The Good: This place seems a little more authentic than your average pan-asian place. The Bad: With authenticity comes dusty plants and dated décor. Times Gone: Only Once(I’ll be back) What I Ordered: It was one of the squid dishes and it was awesome. I stuck with the Vietnamese part of the menu.

When we walked in there was no staff to greet us for about 10 minutes. We were about to leave until another couple showed up and someone came out from the back to serve us. Service was sloooooooow– we had to make sure to ask for the check before we were done eating because we weren’t sure when she would show up again and we had places to go. The food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. My boyfriend had the lemongrass chicken on rice and I had the pork chop with sunny side egg on rice. I could make my boyfriend’s dish at home… Nothing spectacular. My dish tasted below average because the shredded pork actually tasted stale :(We probably won’t be back unless this is the only place we can go.

I love this place! They really do have something for everyone. Their normal menu contains over 150 items, and has Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese options. There’s also a full page of vegetarian options available. The lunch specials are really good deals. I usually just stick to the chicken phat thai which is about eight dollars. You get the main course, rice and an egg roll or fresh spring roll. It’s nice, because unlike some places, you can substitute. The food itself is great, I’ve never had a problem with any of the dishes I’ve ordered and they’re always very accommodating to special orders. The woman that works there(who has never not been there when I’ve visited) is awesome. She’s super friendly, and takes the time to get to know her customers and their orders. At this point, it kind of feels like she’s become a pseudo grandmother to me, even teasing a friend I was with once because they didn’t eat all of their vegetables. Service is sometimes slow, but totally worth it.

Dac-hoa’s menu spans much of Asia, offering choices from China, Vietnam, and Thailand. On my several visits to Dac-hoa, I’ve mostly ordered Vietnamese food. Phở is solid, but unremarkable. Like other phos, you’ll get your broth, noodles, beef, sprouts, and basil. Pork spring rolls were fresh and made to order. Many of my fellow customers seem to be sticking with the Chinese choices. While the food is far from extraordinary and the service is slow, the dining room is usually near full and there are plenty of customers ordering takeout. I imagine a big part of customer loyalty is the owner/operator. She’s quirky, amusing, and seems to recognize most of her customers. She’s running around the restaurant without very much help– and I have even wondered at times whether she’s cooking the food in the back as well! Dac-hoa will never be the ‘best’ Chinese/Vietnamese/Thai food you’ve ever eaten– yet loyalty will get you far in Rochester. Customers keep returning to Dac-hoa because they feel like they have a personal relationship with the owner/operator. You’ll feel like your time waiting for your meal is well spent because you’re supporting a local place instead of a chain. Worth the stop if you have a bit of time to wait.

Too salty and oily. They need to scale down on the additives.

Best Vietnamese food in the state. You can search all over many metropolitan areas in the US and find nothing even close. The service takes awhile and it does require patience but you have decades of experience making your food.

I love this place. The elderly woman who owns it is super-friendly and always recognizes me. She’s chatty without being overbearing. My favorite item on the menu is the tom yum vegetable soup. I think the chef normally makes it with chicken broth, but I always make sure to order it without the broth(since I’m a vegan). The flavor is just superb, and it’s quite different from(better than!) the type of tom yum soup you would typically get at other Asian restaurants. My favorite entrée is the ma po tofu(they spell it «ma por» on their menu, but I wonder if that’s a typo). I always order it extra-spicy. It’s very flavorful and delicious. As a vegan, I do sometimes wish that they didn’t display dead ducks in the glass case at the front of the restaurant, but what are you going to do.

Order any«Bun» for lunch. It’s basically a bowl of spaghetti with stuff on top. Perfect size(and price) for lunch.
