We went here for my birthday on a cold January Saturday night. We thought there might not be many people here so soon after Christmas but they had a full house. This was a very good experience from start to finish. We were greeted warmly and welcomely. We started with mixed drinks expertly made by their very good mixologist. Our waitress was very knowledgable about the menu and was very attentive. This restaurant makes sure you are taken care of very well. They have several servers taking care of you to ensure that things happen in a timely manner. The meal is started off with a basket of very good bread. The Shrimp Carbonara appetizer we tried was very good. We love the fact that a salad is included with your meal and a very good one at that. Serving a mini croissant with it makes for a special treat. I had scallops with corn pudding(more decadent than it sounds) served with roasted root vegetables. Outstanding! My husband had the filet and shrimp with two different sauces. Awesome as well! We both said this restaurant deserves a place on our list of special restaurants in Roanoke! It is a restaurant which many might reserve for special occasions, but we will definitely be going back as often as I can create a «special» occasion.

Alexander’s is an elegant and intimate restaurant. It has an understated yet refined décor. Food and service are superb… probably best in Roanoke(besides my mom’s). Their menu changes often and have a good selection of wines. Everything we had was wonderful. See all my pics. We started with a couple of deconstructed CA rolls and ahi tuna. They where artistically presented and were delicious. I had a center cut pork chop with double seasonal veggies(instead of mash potatoes). It’s a thick cut like Houstons and was perfectly prepared. Others at the table had rack of lamb, seared scallops, filet mignon and shrimp and crawfish and Tasso penne. Everyone ate all their food! Oh their butter — it is out of this world. I don’t eat much bread but I had to eat it just to have the butter — yup it’s that good. This is a good place for business, celebrate special occasions and well just a great meal. Service is really on par with the Ritz with the warmth that a few places master. You definitely get your dollars worth here.

Great place to take mom and dad! The server was very polite and attentive. A nice relaxing atmosphere. While the food is not bad, it is bland. Really no flavor or character in the dishes. Considering the price I expect something more. If you have some that wants a plain meal and nonadventureous… this is your place. Again a great place to take mom and dad! May at least make them happy.

Wow. I really really wish they had a bar. I was there on business and dining alone and I feel more comfortable at a bar, but this literally is my only gripe. Food was outstanding. I didn’t think I was as expensive as people said… this quality of food is going to be pricier than most run of the mill restaurants. I was seated promptly and greeted by my waiter. Wish I could remember his name — really tall guy, VERY nice. He was attentive without being intrusive, which is tough to do. I ordered a glass of wine(Sauv blanc), and it was great. Ordered the scallops with a half salad and their house made vinaigrette. Salad was a good size, vinaigrette was very nice. Scallops were very tasty, portion was appropriate and I felt the price was fair for the quality of food and service. Everyone was pleasant from the woman who filled my water to the man who brought my food. Everyone asked if I needed anything. Even the patrons were pleasant, a couple who looked my way and smiled and nodded at me(which could be a «nod» to the fact I was sitting alone and it was out of pity but I doubt it) ;) Great restaurant and I’ll be back when I return to Roanoke for business.

Our favorite high-priced restaurant in Roanoke. We have loved everything we have ordered. The last time we were here I ordered the striped bass. Delicious! My wife loves the desserts in particular. And the service is superb. We’ve always been treated like royalty. The ambience is congenial and pleasant. And it’s not noisy like some other restaurants I might name.

The food was tasty but there are several restaurants in Roanoke that are much better. My husband and I started with the bbq shrimp. I was expecting New Orleans style and was disappointed when the plate came. The appetizer was still good, but needed some spice. My husband had the scallops dish and was disappointed with the gastrique under the scallops. He said the scallops and sides were good but the gastrique didn’t have enough flavor. I had a vegetarian dish that was filled with veggies but they weren’t seasoned. A nice sauce would have been nice. The atmosphere is nice Zander quiet and service was great. But I’d prefer lucky, river and rail, and local roots.

Service was lovely. Food was tasty. However, a single scallop on a $ 12.50 small plate was expensive. At 2⁄3 the price, it would have gotten a better rating.

There are some darn persnickety reviewers on here. This is at the top of a seriously short list of fine restaurants in Roanoke. It’s pricey for a reason. Portions are on par with similar establishments in other cities. Service is second to none in Roanoke(James is probably the most personable server but I’ve never had bad service). I agree that the old guard of Roanoke likes to eat here but they’ve been around long enough to know the best places. It’s been there a long time but wears its age well. Its not a new place, but its a fine place. I don’t always go here for a nice meal because I like the other place too. But when I know I want to take someone for a top notch dining experience in Roanoke, I can’t go wrong with Alexanders.

Expensive, but worth it. Food and wait staff were superb, only complaint was the wines by the glass list left a lot to be desired, only a few choices or buying by the bottle. Overall great experience!

One of my favorite restaurants in Roanoke! I do wish they had a bar you could sit at to have drinks before dinner! The food and service are wonderful. The barbecue shrimp are to die for! Anyone who loves a nice dinner out should give this place a try!

They are open for lunch on Wednesdays, and lucky for me this is always the day that I am in Roanoke on business. I go to Alexander’s every time, and their salad special never disappoints. I have eaten dinner there once during my time in Roanoke, and it was excellent as well. The service is always outstanding.

I’ve only ever come here for lunch(they do it Wednesday’s only), and it’s always been wonderful. I love that they have a cold pressed iced coffee, it’s super tasty. You can never go wrong with whatever their«hot lunch special» is.
