Very tasty traditional and American Chinese food. Service was prompt, we were seated and fed within an hour. Ordering the szechuan appetizers is the way to go. Tongue and tripe is delicious. Looking forward to future trips.

We came in at about 12pm we were the only ones here. It was our first visit so we decided to try their lunch specials. I ordered roast pork lo mein and wonton soup $ 7.50, and my guest ordered shrimp with garlic sauce with vegetable fried rice and wonton soup $ 7.75. The food is delicious and the portions large. We both had leftovers. The only reason this restaurant did not get 5 stars from me was after our waitress brought our food we never saw her again. We had to get up and walk through the restaurant to hunt her down. Now, we were the only ones here are we that hard to forget. Aside from that I absolutely suggest you eat here if you have the chance. The food is just that good! The only bad problem is they have a $ 20 minimum on credit cards and no ATM be sure to have cash.

Ok, Leo. This is my fourth review. What’s going on in my favorite Szechuan eatery? I arrived with my guest(I always being someone) at 12:05 on Wednesday. As usual, we were sat immediately and prepared for a great meal. We waited a bit to order which was no big deal. We asked for water and tea. Now, the wait.. . Ok, we asked for water and tea a second time. And again we waited.. . The waitress came over and took our order. She was pleasant but seemed confused so it took a bit. Again, we asked for water and tea. Also a fork now for my guest. And we waited again. And we asked for water and tea and we waited and waited and, ahh, here comes the water and tea. Now we waited for the apps. And we waited and we waited and we.. . Are you getting the picture yet? Next, the waitress came over and asked us to clarify our orders. «Kung Pao, Kung Pao,» frustrated, I asked for the menu which she returned and I pointed at the Chinese idiograph and she nodded. And we waited. .. I watched as, one by one, all the other three tables began to lose it since, by now the waitress had gone to the POS unit and faced it for a literal 6 minutes(yes, anally timed!) Tables were moaning aloud yet Grace was busy at the main counter. Eventually a young waiter came over to help out but it was too late. More of the same. Interesting that the last table to arrive was the first to get its entrees! I got up to ask Grace and she said she’d check for us. Finally our food came and we asked for extra napkins and again, a fork for my guest and, guess what??? We waited and… I finally got up and took napkins from another table. I can actually tolerate a wait but one hour and forty five minutes for lunch, except there was never more than four tables seated. THAT is excessive. But the real kicker was the food. The ribs were DRY, the Kung Pao was bland and everything was COLD. What gives? I have gotten feedback from many non-yelpers and they always complain about the service. But the food? That’s dangerous territory. Please remedy this asap or you will be thrust into the netherworld of faded memory of a once great restaurant.

Came here yesterday for the lunch special. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken with brown rice with an egg drop soup. The size of their soup is very generous and the egg drop soup was delicious! The King Pao chicken was also very good. The vegetables in the kung Pao chicken were very fresh. Definitely a great spot for lunch!

We had 4 dishes. For appetizers we order the«steamed bun stuffed with juicy pork» and the«shredded spicy chicken». Both were very tasty. However, the shredded spicy chicken is a cold dish with pieces of hot dried peppers but it includes the bones, tendons and the chicken skin chicken and we would have preferred it if there were no bones. For our main course we had an excellent casserole called«fish fillet in hot and spicy pot» which was excellent. Our other main dish, «stir frying tofu with black mushrooms and vegetable in brown sauce» was ordinary. Service was attentive. I did think, however, that $ 8 for a pot of tea was a bit pricy!

AVOID! I hate to write a negative review, but in this case the food is so disappointing that I am going to do so because I don’t think anyone deserves this huge disappointment. I remember when they opened there were lots of customers and it was difficult to get a table. Now, there are always plenty of tables even on Friday/Saturday nights. The problem is that the food has no quality control. The food is the soul of any restaurant, and in this case, clearly management doesn’t seem to understand or care. Well the customer who spends their hard earned money deserves better.

The food was delicious. The staff was really helpful with suggestions. Very nice décor as well! We ordered to share(4people) the shrimp fried rice, shrimp garlic sauce w broccoli, beef with black pepper, and stewed chicken w ginger wine in casserole. Everything was delicious !! Our favorite was the beef because it was so tender and flavorful. Will definitely return again !!

Ordered food for pick up every time I’ve eaten from here and I gotta say, their beef and broccoli is of the best I’ve ever had. It’s kinda my staple item when I order Chinese so it’s how I rank my Chinese food places For lunch I got beef & broccoli w pork fried rice, wonton soup and all the fixings for $ 7.75(even though most lunch specials also include an egg roll and/or soda) I have to say they gave me a really great amount of meat. They didn’t just fill it up w rice or broccoli to be cheap so I’ll take that all day. Dumplings are good but the scallion pancakes were good the only thing was they were really greasy. However, I would def suggest this place for the classics and I’m planning on making this my regular Chinese take out for work!

First time trying this kind of Chinese cuisine, very different from all other Chinese restaurants we’ve ever tasted… Very tasteful and a paradise for those who love spicy food… A lot of choices and big portions. Can’t wait to come back to taste their other dishes… Our favorite tonight are the Dan Dan noodle with chili minced pork and the chef’s special tea smoked crispy duck!

My parents and I always come here when I go back home, and they’re straight from China. A sampling my favorite things: — Beef tendon in chili oil: thinly sliced beef tendon in their extremely delicious chili oil with strips of scallions and some sesame seeds on top. Sometimes can be too salty, but that just means more rice(you can never go wrong with more rice). — Dan dan noodles: my mom stands by these as the best version she’s had in the States. It’s too much noodle for me(that’s saying something), but she loves it and has been trying to replicate it for a year now. — Scallion pancakes: pretty sure you can get these frozen in the grocery store, but it’s so well fried here. Dipping sauce on the side is also super addictive. — Soup dumplings: skip these, the skin is very thick and they use paper on the bottom instead of a cabbage leaf so it tends to rip. The crab version is also unpleasantly fishy(or crabby, rather). — Fish filet with pickled vegetable soup: I’ve always liked it, but my parents say there’s not enough flavor in the fish. I’d say that’s a good thing, but to each their own. — Beef and egg soup: very light and refreshing, which is a good contrast versus the heavier and oilier main dishes. Nice to have on the side as you make your way through the meal. — Water cooked beef: actually beef and cabbage drenched in hot chili oil, so the name is deceiving. Extremely tender slices of beef with mala peppers everywhere. I’ve also had the lamb version, and it’s equally as delicious. — Beef tendon in clay pot: love this dish, it comes with large pieces of tendon, mushroom, bamboo, and fried tofu. The fried tofu soaks up all the flavor and is delicious with rice. Comes bubbling in a hot clay pot and it usually stays hot for the whole meal! — Kung pao chicken: definitely not the Americanized version. Dark meat chicken stir fried with copious amounts of chilis and peanuts. Spicy, salty, oily, and delicious. — Chicken and pickled peppers hot pot: comes in a metal pot that has a fire burning under it. This is one of my favorite dishes; the sauce it comes in goes perfectly with rice(which also helps to cool the heat from the peppers). The tang from the pickled vegetables helps offset the richness of the meat and oil. They also have an Americanized food section if you’re not feeling up to death by spiciness. Knocking off one star because the service can be terrible when the place is busy. We’ve had to wait 30+ minutes for dishes to come out before while people who ordered before us got theirs. Repeated attempts at flagging down waitresses did nothing. However, the food has been delicious and we’ll continue to come back!

Some nice Chinese lady at Petite Soo Chow( ) befriended my sweetie in the ladies room singing the praises of Joyce. It was a convenient trip down the road for us, so we went — the day after Jonas shut down New York and New Jersey. The two best things about Joyce are the upscale room and the tea smoked duck. The worst was when the wait staff tried to pass off pork belly/radish soup for the tripe/cabbage soup I ordered. When I called them on the mistake they told me they were out of tripe. Sneaky order switches like that always leave a bad taste in my mouth. Why not just be honest about it from the get go? Minus one star. The rest was pretty basic — even equivocal — by NY and even some NJ standards — at top of the market prices. After all, this is dining at a strip mall in River Edge. Dinner for 2 adults and 2 kids, plus several apps, topped $ 130 with tip. Pricey for what it was. At that price tea should be free, but they charge $ 8 bucks a pot. Minus another star. Aside from the duck, somewhat interesting were the dan dan noodles with pork –(nice heat but greasy) — and the cow peas with pork –(good crunch from the peas but the large chunks of dried red chili pods scattered throughout the dish made for a unpleasant texture — like bones in fish). The soup dumplings were very average and fell apart too easily while being scooped up – leaving behind the porky«soup» before getting to your mouth. But the pea shoot leaves with garlic were perfectly cooked — nice large portion with just enough garlic. Net net, there are better Chinese restaurants in the area serving authentic Szechuan and Shanghainese food — and I’m not sure we will be hurrying back here for another round anytime soon.

I’m no expert, but this was amazing. Everything we had-the dan dan noodles, soup dumplings, pork belly… incredible. This is not your average, run of the mill chinese restaurant. The service and décor were excellent as well. We will definitely be back.

I found Joyce Chinese Cuisine cruising around in my convertible one sunny Sunday afternoon. there aren’t many sit down Chinese restaurants in Bergen County that are also authentic, so my friends and I stopped by. The restaurant is surprisingly nice. Probably the nicest Chinese restaurant I’ve been to, ever. Plush seating, ambient lighting, stone floors, stone tables, and immaculately clean bathrooms make this place seem fancy as hell. We ordered the Szechuan style wings for an appetizer. Best wings I have had in awhile. They are covered with dry chili peppers, which are pretty spicy on their own, but not so spicy when eaten with the wing. I’ve been here twice now. I’ve had the pork intestine sautéed in Chinese peppercorns and the mapo tofu. The pork intestines were not what I expected. They were cleaned very well and had very little of that earthy flavor you’d normally find in pork intestine. It also wasn’t very spicy. The mapo tofu was something I was excited to try, since I’ve heard about it in many animé. It’s like soondubu except a whole lot better. They have yet to ask me how spicy I want my food, but I’m sure they can make it extra spicy if I ask. But they’re a little expensive, basically NYC prices in NJ, so I don’t think I’ll be here too often.

The Story: Came here with Mom for dinner. Food: The first time I came here the food wasn’t that great. I don’t know if I ordered the wrong foods or their spices were off. 2nd time around was really good. We ordered two appetizers — Ox Tongue and Tripe and Beef Tendons. Out of the two, I enjoyed the Beef Tendons more. For the main course, we ordered smoked tea duck(must get), Steamed whole fish with house special sauce, sauteed pork intestines with Chinese pepper corn and stir fry luffa. Between 3 people, we finished EVERYTHING. That should say something… Price: I think the price point is a little more expensive than places you’ll find in NYC or Flushing but considering I save $ 14-$ 30 in tolls, its well worth it. I’m just sad they don’t have Tripe and Bamboo with Chilli Oil dish… Décor: This place is actually very modern and hip. You’ll feel fancy yo! Service: Service was average. They serve water in these champagne glasses and don’t refill them enough. I feel like they are kinda ‘chilllax’ because we were Chinese as well lol… Parking & Finding the Place: Located in a mini strip mall on Kinderkamack, you can’t miss it. Limited parking space in the front, best if you park in the back!

Last night I finally made it over to Joyce Chinese Cuisine for dinner. I had heard some positive things from relatives regarding the quality of the food here and the overall experience and I am happy to report I agree with their findings. I have lived in River Edge for a few years now and I have seen businesses come and go in the commercial strips along Kinderkamack road. I first noticed this restaurant about a year ago and figured based on the external appearance it was just another typical Chinese restaurant… Well, as it turns out I was very wrong. Although externally Joyce Chinese Cuisine May appear to be just another Chinese restaurant, internally it is clean, spacious, BYOB, and surprisingly very modern. Last night was a Monday night and to my surprise the approximately 40 tables were nearly all occupied. The crowd was approximately 50% Asian, and in my book that is typically a good indicator of authenticity and quality. Apparently in their short time at this location they have gained quite a customer following. From the quality chopsticks to the plates they seem to have paid close attention to the details, and at this price-point they do not disappoint. The Food: The food can be described as authentic Chinese(although they do have a section on the extensive menu labeled«Americanized Chinese») and if you are inexperienced in real Chinese food you may be in for a surprise. I ordered a bowl of seafood hot and sour soup, steamed pork dumplings in chili oil, and the cumin beef. Having traveled many parts of China(Including the Sichuan province) I found the food to be quite authentic and a refreshing change from the local, Americanized Chinese typically found within a short driving distance of my home. Everything tasted freshly prepared, nothing appeared to be previously frozen. I was especially pleased with the spiciness of my entrée. I purposely ordered the cumin beef because it was rated 3-chili’s on the menu(maximum spice) and if you know me from my other reviews you know I am a huge fan of spice. The food was especially hot, as expected and the spice was instilled in the food, not just piles of red chilies added to intensify the heat(I hate when Chinese restaurants do that). It was searingly-delicious! Conclusion: When you combine the excellent quality of the food, the modern and clean interior, the attentive service, and the outstanding price point(we paid approximately $ 45 for three appetizers and two entrées) you have a 100% winning combination. Solid 4-stars for local, authentic Chinese food at a good price! As mentioned previously, this was my first time here and I may adjust my rating up or down based on other menu items as I learn more about this restaurant.

We came here for lunch after having asked for an authentic Chinese restaurant without having going into Manhattan. The recommendation came from another Chinese person so I was looking forward to checking this place out. The restaurant is in a strip mall on Kinderkamack, which gets very congested. The strip mall has a parking lot in the back, which I recommend parking in versus up front where the lot is essentially an extension of the road. The food here was good and much better than I expected. We had spicy pork wontons and the Shanghai soup dumplings as appetizers. For lunch I had the spicy fried fish fillet. I didn’t really like the batter that was used on the fish. I felt it was too battery(if that is a word). I guess the ratio of batter to fish was too high for me. The flavor was good though! The service was okay. They didn’t bring our rice out with our meal and we had to ask for it. The time to get our food was fine. We will definitely come back to try additional dishes!

The restaurant is new, so it looks very clean and beautifully decorated, you can feel the owner put a lot of effort on the decorations and the details. On our first visit, we ordered Szu-Chuan style beef noodle soup, Dan-Dan noodle, steamed dumpling and the fish fillet in hot chili oil. My favorite is fish fillet in hot chili oil, if you dare to eat spicy, you need to order this, it is very tasty, the fish fillet is tender and fresh, and the portion is huge, definitely enough for 4 people to share. The Szu-Chaun beef soup noodle is good too, I really like the broth which is full of flavor and not salty at all. The Dan-Dan noodle is a bit disappointing because the sauce is just very mediocre. I also think they can improve the quality of the noodles they use because I feel the noodle they served did lack of texture. Overall, I am happy that there is finally an authentic Szu-Chuan restaurant in my area so I don’t have to travel far when I am craving for Szu-Chuan foods, will definitely return and try other dishes.
