Great food and atmosphere. The owner and his wife are always friendly and reminds me of when my wife and I lived in Germany… Proud to say one of my favorite places to go!

Ok this place is nothing short of amazing! The service, the staff, the establishment, and the FOOD! As a Washingtonian it is hard to find a place that can excite and keep us coming back… until now! The owners are the most hospitable and make you feel right at home. By far my restaurant of choice in Georgia! Pao and Joe you are the best!!! –the northern native

The food was really quite good and the portions generous however the service was lacking and reason for low rating. We kept to the German side of the menu and the appetizer came out quickly, the same time as the other couple sitting at the family style table — prepare to make friends. Yet our entrees didn’t arrive until after that couple had eaten, paid, and left … a loooong time. There were no large parties so it isn’t clear why there was such a delay. Despite this the schnitzel and sides we ordered were delicious! But then another long wait for the check and the bartender offered us shots on the house while we were waiting to pay. A nice gesture but honestly, we just wanted to leave at that point. I can overlook the awkward seating since the food was good, but when the wait is nearing 30 mins between visits from the staff it’s just not good.

We take out of towners here for a change of pace. The menu is versatile. Owners are husband n wife of different cultures and blend the menu to offer mouth watering choices. We love the beer sampler n boot :)

Love love this restaurant cute concept combining Thai and German dishes in one very large menu. This restaurant is set up as family dinning style so if you cone in as a couple you will sit at a very large table with other diners this is how everyone gets to know one another. The dishes are very tasty and worth the visit

WTH? 20 minutes outside Savannah is ‘lil ‘ol Rincon. Whoda thunk you’d find a terrific German restaurant out here in the country? Tourists flock to downtown Savannah and River Street. Great restaurants. Great bars. Worth the trip. So the new coastal empire tourist destination should be Rincon. Why? Schnitzel Shack. Wunderbar! In an unassuming strip center, right next to the nail salon you’ll find a little bit of Deutschland, y’all. Not some really bad imitation of what a rural Georgian might interpret as Deutschland, but real Germany-like Deutschland, with authentic and noteworthy beers, wursts, pretzels! And of course, in accordance with the name, Schnitzels. Oh wait, the famous Wiener Schnitzel is actually Austrian, but that’s just a minor detail… Ambiance is simple with lots of German items on the wall. Not sure how the Marilyn Monroe lithographs fit in, and I actually thought Germany was enamored with David Hasselhof(just like France is enamored with Jerry Lewis), but it all seems to work in an eclectic kind of way. Long tables are perfect for you and five or six of your closest freunden. Service is southern friendly, but you’ll often find it spotty, bless your heart. It’s all about the speise, though! Start off with .75L, 1L or more of a Spaten Pils vom fass(on tap). If you’re not a Pilsner fan there’s several other German beers on tap, plus more in bottles. Deutscher wine, too! Add on a warm salted pretzel or two with cheese or mustard. Mmmm.(Not sure tzatziki is authentic, but…) The schnitzel menu is long and varied, plain, like Wiener Schnitzel, or all gussied up with cheese, brown mushroom sauce, or ala cordon bleu. Tender, fried and wonderful you can’t go wrong. Accompanied by a decent spaetzle or «German» fries topped with sauteed onions you’ll be exclaiming«Sehr gut!» There is a great wurst selection from knock to brat to spicy chili. They are all great, and you shouldn’t visit without having their best wurst. So, beer, pretzel, schnitzel and a wurst is my Schnitzel Shack-newbie’s recommended foray into the menu. Oh yeah, the Shack has a Thai alter-ego. All of your favorite Thai dishes served in an authentic German setting. Marilyn Monroe watching over the whole dining room, too. If the food wasn’t so good you’d be saying«WTH?» again. Take a trip off the beaten path when visiting Savannah. Just of I-95, visit the up and coming Georgia tourist destination of choice, Rincon, the number one attraction being Schnitzel Shack! Bitte schon!

Hmmm make up your mind is it thai food or german food. I grew up on German food and this was just ok. Really small restaurant, really really small kitchen. I think if the focus was on German food it would be better. All the sausages are made there, ok give you 2 points for that. We had bratwurst and schnitzel it was ok. Beer selection seems good, desserts good, service good. Might try for lunch, but for dinner $ 75.00 fir four people no beer no dessert mediocre food not ok.

4.5 stars for the food(from someone who is stingy with stars). 0 stars for the service. Husband was born in Germany and spent some of his childhood there, so is always interested in the few German places we come across. We arrived about 6:30 on Saturday evening, and half a dozen people were waiting outside. I went inside(sign on door said«wait to be seated») and had to grab one of the staff to get our name on the list. Was told 10 – 15 minutes, so we waited outside. And waited. After we realized everyone ahead of us was gone, we noticed a party arriving behind us getting seated and I went in to find out what was up. One of the girls looked at me and apologized for forgetting about us; apparently crossing names off the list and seating in the order of arrival is complicated. A table was about to leave, but a party of eight had arrived, and we were not seated until a partial table came available. It was in total 45 minutes to get a seat. As we were sitting, I ordered a pretzel with cheese; fortunate that we did, as it took another 20 minutes to get water, and an additional 10 for the pretzel. The wait staff consisted of three young women, all of whom seemed to be running around without clear purpose. Drinks ran out, food arrived slowly and not together. It really was as if this was these girls’ first night trying to run a dining room, except their demeanor was not harried; no real sense of urgency. I spied two men in the kitchen on a bathroom trip; if one was the owner he wasn’t trying to make sure things were running smoothly in the dining room. There were at least two other parties that we saw have similar problems with wait staff attention. As for the food, it very nearly redeemed the lack of service. All four of us ordered schnitzel, and husband got a couple sausages(knockwurst and bratwurst). Jaegerschnitzel had mother-in-law oohing and aaahing, the spaetzle was very good, and the potato salad was also great. The red cabbage had apples and was almost sweet, not the normal vinegar sauce I’m accustomed to. I got the thai basil schnitzel(couldn’t resist the novelty), which was a vegetable mix sauteed in basil sauce atop a tender schnitzel. At the end of our meal, there was zero acknowledgement of the terrible treatment; I was hoping for some attempt to make it right. Even comping the pretzel would have made it better, but these girls didn’t apparently think making us wait while they seated parties after us was a problem. So it came out of their tip, with a note on the receipt. I’d return, though likely only for call-ahead takeout. The service was as bad as any I’ve ever experienced, but I’d love to try the food again.

This place was great! I was in town for work and wanted something local. I didn’t expect to find a German restaurant. I had Jaeger Schnitzel on my mind until I arrived and realized it was also a Thai restaurant. They had a great selection of German items and Thai items and then I saw it, German-Thai fusion. I got a pretzel(pretty average), a couple draft beers(good selection of German brews), and the red curry schnitzel with spaetzle and red cabbage. It was awesome. It was also a ton of food, so I had a lot of leftovers. On top of the good food was excellent service. If I ever find myself in Rincon again, I will definitely come back!

Tonight was my first experience with German Food and I enjoyed it a lotat The Schnitzel Shack. Cons: Tables are kind of communal and a bit cramped. Maybe a part of the vibe but just not something I cared for(even more so because of the drunken salesman two feet from my ear who couldn’t stop blabbering about himself). The prices were also a bit on the high side, especially considering the location. Service was civil, but not really friendly. An appetizer of fried meatballs was tasty, but I had two that had super-cold centers. Pros: The portions were quite large and the schnitzel was outstanding. Hubby proclaimed it the best he’d ever had. I also enjoyed the other sides a lot, especially the red cabbage. There was also a really nice variety of beer. Overall: I realize my cons section seems to outweigh the pros, but we got to enjoy something different and we left full and happy. If it was closer to home we’d definitely be regulars.

Been there three times now and it’s the closest thing to actually eating in Germany. Great beer and atmosphere. Seating is limited but worth it for the food and drink.

We ordered the schnitzel platter with two schnitzel, four sausage and four sides. There were three of us and we took home a box of leftovers. Food was good in great quantity. Beer great too.

I had the jaeger schnitzel which is the schnitzel with brown mushroom sauce, which I requested on the side. This was the first time I ever had schnitzel and it wasn’t bad. Although the meal was a little pricey, the portion was huge. I had the fries and the red cabbage as my sides. My favorite part of the whole meal was the German chocolate cake. My husband had the schnitzel with the peppercorn sauce, which was similar to the mushroom sauce. His sides were the fries with the bacon and onions and the spaetzel noodles. He was pleased with his dish. We liked our experience although I am not sure if we would return anytime soon. We would recommend it if you never had schnitzel. The chocolate cake is a must!

Being German, I had high hopes for this place. Not all of them were actually fulfilled. At first, the idea of German-Thai cuisine sounded weird to me(and still does), so I stuck with«authentic» German dishes, such as the Schnitzel with Spaetzle and red cabbage. I have to say, the Schnitzel was really great. It tasted just like back home and was a very good portion. The spaetzle were a bit bland to be honest. I am usually used to them being more buttery, and with a distinct taste that does not taste like you were eating regular noodles /pasta. The cabbage was alright for the most part, but could definitely have used a bit more distinct flavor as well. But I remember that wherever I ate in Germany, whether restaurants or private homes, I have never had cabbage that tasted the same, so I am giving them the benefit of doubt that maybe it is their traditional recipe. I was not a huge fan however. Their beer selection is ok, but for a German place I would have expected a bit more diversity and a better selection. The service was a little slow, at least until he found out that I was German and he noticeably cheered up towards me a bit more. Nothing to complain about, but not worth a positive mention either. All in all, I can recommend it if one is looking for authentic German food. They certainly have that part right. Their potato salad is pretty traditional, and so is the Schnitzel. The prices are a bit high, but the portion size is certainly big enough to justify them. They have a very cliché bavarian decoration and play music that most people in Germany don’t listen to(overdoing the cliché and tradition a bit), but it works for the nostalgia in me and the friends I went with got a kick out of it. Unfortunately, this is the only place in the area with authentic German food that I know of, and it’s a but far out(in Rincon, which was a 25 minute drive from Savannah).

I wanted to really LOVE this place but the food was just okay. I ordered the schnitzel covered in cheese, german potato salad, and red cabbage. The schnitzel would have been so much better without the cheese sauce. I didn’t think you could go wrong with cheese but turns out you can!!! It just was not good and there was too much. There was more cheese sauce than schnitzel. The cabbage was bland and soggy. The only star of the meal was the german potato salad which was fabulous. My son got the kids chicken fingers and fries. I tasted the chicken fingers and they were really good and tender. My husband got some thai dish that was supposed to be REALLY spicy but it was also bland and he hated it. My mom ordered jasmine tea that never came until almost the end of the meal after we asked for it again. They took it off the bill without asking and brought the adults complimentary shots in little boot shot glasses. While the food was just ehhh the service was fabulous. The people were friendly and quick to correct a mistake. I would be willing to try this place again if we were in the area but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here again.

German Thai FAIL! Turns out a lot can go wrong. I am sorry, but I have given this place several tries and each time it came up as not just lackluster but also way over priced. I have also gone here with many well-traveled friends, like myself. I can say that each of them has expressed the initial let down of what has been hyped by most locals as” to die for ethnic fusion cuisine” with white table cloth prices. My gut feeling on each visit was«this isn’t as awesome as everyone makes it seem.’» Upon entrance it looks sort of cute in a tacky way, but the seating is a real let down. There are lots of huge«seats 20 people» tables. There really isn’t parking for large parties and there isn’t table seating for small parties. Then you pick up a menu. Wow, that is heavy, packed with a lot of pages, and eclectic. A menu that is too large in a place this size is always a bad sign. The food can’t be very fresh because there isn’t enough traffic or staff to support all these items being market fresh. How about just doing one thing well? It shouldn’t take me 20 minutes to look over the menu. Streamline people! Then I notice that the prices here are out of control! Appetizers are priced at $ 8.00 -$ 10.00, $ 7.50 — $ 10.00 for a sandwich that isn’t that good or creative, Schnitzel runs $ 12.00 to $ 36.00, the very definition of overpriced and sauces cost about $ 3.00. Get real; people shouldn’t be charged Euro-zone prices here in Georgia. Let me address the Thai that I ordered more than once which was more than unfortunate. It was composed of some really dry thick sliced chicken, lots of powdered cayenne pepper, eggs, no scallions or bean sprouts on one occasion, the next time the scallions were not fresh, noodles, a few bits of chopped peanuts and one super dry lime wedge. Schnitzel Shack is a serious let down. Now, I love Thai food. Great Thai food is simple and elegant with fresh intense flavors. Good Pad Thai is a dish of stir-fried Phở noodles, a type of rice noodle, with eggs, fish sauce, tamarind juice, red chili pepper, plus any combination of bean sprouts, shrimp, chicken, or tofu, garnished with crushed peanuts, coriander and lime, the juice of which can be added along with Thai condiments(crushed peanuts, garlic, tomato, chives, pickled turnip, coriander, lime, spicy chili oil, chili powder, vinegar, fish sauce, sugar). It is usually served with scallions and pieces of raw banana flower. It should be savory, with bits of sweetness and some acid and several textures. Basically this sort of dish is the dark side of the moon to what I was served. The best thing about the beer is the cute boot shaped or boob shaped glasses. I have also ordered the beer sampler. None of the beers were anything to write home about and one of them was so sour it just tasted wrong. I do enjoy German beers. I was very excited to see that they had them here at the SS. The Schnitzel is just some fried food you could make better yourself at home. Again I know there are lots of 5 star reviews, but this is not the quintessence of schnitzel. My friends from Germany were very disappointed. Where are all the traditional sides? Fries, roll, cabbage and potato salad that is all you are going to get for $ 36.00. You will not catch me eating here again my friend. I feel I have been robbed by this place. I may return for drinks only if I have to come again.

GERMAN meets THAI?! That’s a winning combination of AWESOME. If Germany had teamed up with Thailand back in ’39, we’d all be speaking funny when it came to discussing what to have for dinner. Adding to the WIN is the great selection of beers SERVEDINBOOTSORBOOBS. Best restaraunt ever. My menu suggestion? Anything. Specifically? Go for one of the curried german dishes.

This was my first visit to the Schnitzel Shack, and I was left pleasantly surprised. I never expected to find such an interesting restaurant in a place like Rincon! There’s a nice mix of German and Thai food on the menu. While there is not a huge amount of space in the restaurant, there are two long tables that would seat a decent sized group. As far as food goes, it’s really good, especially if you don’t often get German inspired food. Though, I’m not qualified to comment on how true to German cuisine it is. Still, the food is definitely worth trying! I had some kind of Schnitzel with cheese sauce and would recommend it!
