During a recent trip to visit a friend in Ridgewood I set out to visit my favorite little local boutique. I arrived & was greeted with the news that it had been converted into a yoga studio/event space. A bit saddened as I really enjoyed that shop last time, but also excited as I had a week to simply relax and have always been curious about yoga(have taken only a handful of classes before) so what better time to give it a go! I entered the studio and to my surprise I was greeted by a familiar face. The manager of the previous boutique, is also the manager of the new yoga studio. She told me that they have a special for seven consecutive days of yoga at $ 20. I was sold. Here in Orlando I paid more than half that just to attend one class! Now, onto the classes. Each day is a different class and I absolutely loved the variety. From my experience all were relatively small which was quite nice as it allowed for more one on one attention. As I said, I’m by no means an experienced yogi, so this was comforting for me knowing that I was being put into the correct position, etc. All of the instructors were very kind/patient and seemed highly experienced. My favorite class was the DJ class taught by Elle and had Benny spinning. I was surprised at how relaxing an environment can be with a DJ on deck. I have to say that I was expecting something totally different– club like almost, but this was seriously tranquil! The lights were dim and there were even lit candles… Other things of note that weren’t of particular importance to me, but could be to others: –There are monthly unlimited classes for $ 99– I definitely would have taken advantage of this if I was there for a month. –They have childcare on weekday afternoons & evenings. A couple of classes I attended had mothers who brought children & it appeared to me that the children were well cared for & enjoyed their time at the studio. –One of the instructors also speaks spanish The only downside to this place is that it’s not in my hometown. Love this spot, love the owners, love the instructors. Can’t wait to go back! Thanks Nova for a great week of relaxation & learning!

Nova is CLEAN, warm and has a great staff. They offer a variety of class types so there’s something for everyone. You can do beginners yoga, Zumba, Ashtanga yoga and even hybrid classes like Buti yoga which is such a great workout. I love chatting with the owners and they’re very accommodating. They also have classes for kids, mommy and me and even tutoring. Don’t miss a class here! It’s worth it.

I attended a private event here recently — the place is super chic! It’s like a hidden gem in Ridgewood, Queens. They just opened a few months ago so I’m hoping my review will help spread the word about this place. We need more cool neighborhood places like this… that stay open! We were able to shop during the party which was fabulous. The atmosphere and the merchandise offered rival that of SoHo boutiques, minus the ridiculous prices. Their stuff is affordable, high quality and so cute. They have womens and mens sections. And though it’s aimed at the urban market, this is not your typical«urban/club» gear. Its a bit more than that, I got a kind of grown and sexy vibe from the place. Some of the things my friends and I bought — handbags, jewelry, scarves, and dresses. If you’re looking for trendy, unique pieces without trecking to the city, you’ve found your spot. Note: parking is little rough, but hey, its Queens… and this place is worth it. I highly recommend Nova New York and will certainly be going back. Cheers!
