My Dad use to take me and my sister to eat here when we were little. I just recently rediscovered this place and felt like I entered a time capsule back to my childhood. Everything about this place is exactly the same. Absolutely nothing has changed. After years of consuming mediocre Chinese food, I can now say that this place has the best fried rice, general tsos chicken, and boneless spare ribs(make sure to request that they cut off the fat). I definately recommens sitting down and enjoying some delicious duck sauce and wonton crackers(I think that’s what they call it) and some tea because the ambiance is great. I’m definitely a fan of the blow fish lanterns and also recommend take out because their food is high quality and very tasty.

Tacky fun decorations, workers who date back to ancient times and potent cocktails to wash down the food you are eating. It really doesn’t get any better than that! I have been coming to this restaurant for as long as I can remember. The crazier but amazing part? It has not changed one bit! Still not impressed? My mother has been coming here since she was young and according to even her it hasn’t changed. This does not just include the décor, I believe more than half of the workers there have been there ever since it opened. I seriously think a handful of them are over 90 years old but hey, I think it just adds to the amazingness of this place. Idk I just find all of this amusing and thought I should point it out. I have tried quite a few different cocktails from here over the years and each and every one has been amazing. BUT The one thing this place is HIGHLY known for are their Zombies! OMGOMGOMG! Yes! They are THEBEST. I kid you not! Nobody will ever know how they are made – they have their own secret recipe and the workers refuse to tell anyone. They are mysterious, unique and sinfully strong. I’m all honesty, they should come with a warning label. Be careful drinking these suckers… one will get you pretty tipsy and by the second one… you will just be plain drunk out of nowhere. Which brings us to the next part of this review… the importance of eating food when your there. The food is «okay.» Overall a solid 3 ½ stars. and it depends on the food item you get. My recommendation would be the spare ribs an an appetizer and the chicken in a black bean sauce. Portions are pretty big as well which is also pretty solid. Workers are usually attentive and quick. During the week day, they are usually slow and that is a good time to go. It’s one of the few restaurants in the area that are open Christmas Day… and yes… it gets PACKED! Love you Chan’s! Keep never changing!

The atmosphere is just great: 1950’s style Polynesian, pufferfish lamps and all. Boyfriend and I shared an order of spare ribs and shrimp fried rice. Perfect amount of food. Table came with crispy wonton noodles and a pot of green tea. $ 10 credit card minimum. Friendly staff. They’ve been open almost 52 years!

The Story: Came here on a double date because its the best Chinese take out in town. I’ll probably have to agree on that statement. Food: We got some appetizers. Their fried dumplings were pretty good as well as their boneless ribs. The buffalo wings(lol at a Chinese place?) was interesting. It was Chinese chicken wings with buffalo sauce. I ordered the Pineapple & Lychee Duck and was disappointed. The duck was dry and tasteless and they pretty much just piled canned pineapple and lychee on top of it. Price: I think this place is pretty pricey for what it is. $ 120 spent between 4 people for Chinese takeout. Décor: Very gimmicky, if you liked this type of things lol Service: Old men in hawaiian shirts… Its a giggle. Parking & Finding the Place: has own parking lot. Additional Thoughts:

Dinner was good. Nice sit down Chinese food with a Polynesian flair in the décor. We were seated quickly and served crisp noodles with duck sauce and spicy mustard. They have a bar and I ordered a Mai Tai($ 8). We ordered a chefs special with shrimp, lobster, scallops, and squid with Chinese vegetables in brown sauce. We both really enjoyed it. We also had beef Szechuan extra spicy. That seemed a little too oily but was cooked extra spicy as requested. The atmosphere is good. There were at least 12 tables filled when we were there and the service was QUICK and friendly. We will go there again.

Old school Chinese American tiki place with decent flaming pu pu platter and groovy drinks in tiki cups

What can I say about this place — it’s an old fashioned Chinese-American restaurant and every dish is delicious. Stick with the basics and you can’t go wrong. A few highlights — egg rolls with out a bit of grease, old fashioned wonton soup and chicken chow mein that will return you to your childhood. The famous pu pu platter was a bit greasy for my taste but judging from how many I saw on other tables people love it. Staff is friendly, décor is kitch and service is efficient. Enjoy.

You cannot go wrong with the Chan’s spare rib lunch combo(served M-Sat 12 noon –3pm excluding holidays), which comes with the biggest and best egg roll, the best won ton soup, and the best pork fried rice, bar none. And you can throw a dart at their Polynesian drink menu, everything is fantastic. My personal favorite: the Honi Honi(with Scotch). After a few drinks, soak up the classic tiki atmosphere and Hawaiian music and you’ll feel like you’re living in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, encapsulated in a perfect MSG opium den. Tiki doesn’t get better than Chan’s in the tri-state area!

Chan’s Dragon Inn, with it’s plain exterior and Hawaiian-themed interior(including Hawaiian music!), which seems to have been renovated as recently as 1968, made for an interesting aesthetic. It’s very dark inside, like a ‘60s joint. I stopped here for lunch on the way north to the George Washington Bridge into New York City. My choice was the Sweet & Sour Pork lunch special. It came with fried won ton noodles as an appetizeer, water, hot tea, soup of my choice, pork-fried rice, and the entrée. It was filling and delicious, and for $ 10.00, after tax & tip, it was a great value. RJT

Shrimp with chili sauce was OK. Just shrimp and chopped onions I guess I expected more veggies in the dish. Service good and so are the drinks I recommend the«Zombie»

Delicious food with really funky retro tiki décor. The waitstaff are so friendly and helpful, and the bar churns out some of the best island cocktails I’ve ever had. Food is always fresh and tasty with huge portions — a great place to have both dinner and drinks!

I have literally been consuming Chan’s since I was in the womb and I turned out amazing! My dad says when I came out I flew around the room by my umbilical cord and I suspect it was because of all the pu-pu platters my mom ate to help me grow strong. I am not the first person kneel before the awesome power of their signature drink: THEZOMBIE! And I wont be the last. Emma, if you read this, I went to Chan’s the night before you wedding, and that is probably why I bit your cousin during the reception, and I am sorry! The food there is so delicious and the décor is so righteous it inspired me to write this Haiku: Blow fish Christmas lights Sexy smoky pork fried rice Yes I can egg roll
Finally, Chan’s has the most amazing chicken noodle soup that I order every time I go in AND every time I get sick. True story, 20 years ago I broke my toe, and it really hurt! After eating a bowl of Chan’s chicken noodle soup, my toe was still broken, but I kinda felt better about it. The broth is delicious, the little chicken shreds hit the spot, and noodles are like 18 inches long! Unfortunately, this brings me to my only negative comment about Chan’s. Not one of the waiters have ever accepted my invitation to re-enact that spaghetti scene from Lady and The Tramp with me using the soup noodles. I guess its for the best as I recently got to cross it off my bucket list with my boyfriend’s assistance and we have a huge picture picture of that special moment to cherish always :)

I wanted to like this place with their kitschy, 70’s-time-warp-Polynesian-styled décor which reminded me of a place that my family and I frequented when I was a kid. Sadly, the food was below average. Possibly the kitchen staff was having a bad night based on the positive reviews from other contributors, but the food was extremely bland and some of the items I ordered(especially the Pu Pu platter) repeated on me all night long. Even the egg rolls tasted old and tired. The Pu Pu did bring back some nostalgia from my youth and the owner/hostess were very friendly(they got us a table without a reservation on a busy night), but I can’t find a good reason to go back.

Great quality food… Good Chinese-American ambiance… The pork fried rice was phenomenal. There is a reason this guy has been in business for 50 years. All these reviews and 4 Star? You KNOW it’s great! Must try!

From the moment you walk up to the steps and see the 2 totem poles you know something is different. HELLO1970… Tiki…I LOVE it. We were seated by the front. I couldn’t take my eyes off this large single — one eyed — totem with it’s chili pepper tongue sticking out but that didn’t deter us from eating those addicting crispy noodles, mustard and duck sauce. We settled for a glass of wine but wow if we would drink one of those massive drinks walking by us we would have been floored. We started with the largest shrimp rolls and amazing wonton soup. My boyfriend ordered the butterfly shrimp which could have fed the arch diocese of Newark. I simply had chicken chowmein. Staff dresses in Hawaiian shirts and it all fits together well. I think if we look hard enough we will find traces of Austin Powers and Minnie Me.

The décor is authentic, unique, and exciting. I was a bit confused by the Christmas tree(in April) and the Hawaiian shirts worn by the waiters. We sat in a corner booth that was in a little hut. So that was kind of fun. The lighting was a bit dim for my liking but thankfully modern technology enables me to have a flashlight built into my iPhone. This place has been around for a while… Which sparked stories from my dad when he was 7 years old and came to Chan’s with his family. Anyway, we ordered the family dinner for 5. In the future I would advise ordering for one less. We had sooo much left over! That is not necessarily a bad thing though. The wonton soup was good and came with chunks of pork in the broth. The egg rolls were HUGE and crispy. My mom insisted on giving the egg foo young a «100% thumbs up» The General Tso’s was not spicy at all even though we asked for it. But this chicken was probably one of the best general Tso’s chicken I have had because it the batter gave it a nice crispy coating to it. My mom and I ordered the tabu for two(a drink) which actually they don’t make for two anymore and I think I know why. It was super super strong. So be careful when ordered this drink! All in all I wish I could have eaten more.

So last night, I decided to take this kid out for his 21st birthday. He decided Ben should come, which SEVERELY limited the number of options we had, since just about every bar in Hoboken and NYC would’ve carded him. Luckily, I remembered this place, or I would’ve ended up at Applebee’s. So Chan’s Dragon Inn looks like the Leviathan ate a Christmas tree, Hawaii, and a bunch of old Chinese guys, promptly vomiting at this little spot in Ridgefield. They take the tiki theme to the max here. The old waiters who barely speak English are dressed in Hawaiian shirts and paintings of tropical places litter the walls. Tiki/bamboo décor and Christmas lights can be seen EVERYWHERE. The tables and chairs are beat up as hell. At first, I thought they were playing hula music. But soon, I realized they were playing really old Filipino music, which makes this whole place even more ridiculous. The drink menu is written in very poor English, adding to the charm of this place. The rest of the menu is basic American Chinese food. I ordered a bunch of appetizers, specifically chicken wings, scallion pancakes, and fried squid. Wings and scallion pancakes were surprisingly tasty and not greasy. The fried squid had a bit too much flour, but it was good regardless. We were here mostly to drink. Birthday boy tried a bunch, I stuck with the Flaming Virgin since I love any drink that’s on fire. All the cocktails tasted great, but had varying levels of strength. The Zombie was by far the strongest, followed by the Tabu for Two, Flaming Virgin, and Mai Tai. The whole experience was just hilarious and fun. I’d go back here with a large group.
