Best burgers and fries I’ve ever had! Place looks kinda dirty and the staff isn’t always the nicest, but the food is so worth it.

What-a-burger is amazing. It shouldn’t be compared to McDonald’s, Red Robin, Fuddruckers or any other burger. When you want a burger go anyplace else. But when you want a What-a-burger, YOUGOTOWHAT-A-BURGER! !!! They stand alone. Great friendly, fast service!

I felt this place was over priced for the amount & quality of food. The burger & fries reminded me of what I used to get in Jr. High school and my husband said the bologna sandwich was flavorless. I had ordered a shake, but I guess they forgot to setup the shake machine when they opened. The sweet tea was great and service was good. I always wanted to try whataburger since I heard so many things about it. I guess it is one of those places if you grew up eating it, you like it, but for those of us who hadn’t it fell a little short.

Really good burgers, really good prices, totally unassuming, friendly atmosphere. The fries are so tasty!

We liked the place okay. It is a nice enough place in a less than nice neighborhood. The onion rings were excellent, the burgers and corndogs were big and the price for the 4 of us to eat was $ 27. I think next time we’ll go to the one called B.J.‘s whataburger.

Living in Texas before Richmond, we were intrigued at the local restaurant that shared a name with our beloved chain. Reading previous reviews, we went in prepared to try a double and cheese fries. While not identical to our old favorite, we were still not disappointed. Food was fresh and delicious and decently priced. We made it in right before a rush, so we had just a short wait. My son tried the chicken sandwich and said it was one of the best he’d ever had. My daughter had the kielbasa sandwich with onions and peppers and was equally as pleased. We’ll definitely return the next time we’re craving a tasty burger.

I took the advice of previous reviews. The double cheeseburger was very good and I thought the french fries were very good as well. I like the nostalgia of this type of place.

part of my fast food bucket list run, this is now called BJs burger. i got a double hamburger and onion rings. burger is awesome, still not as good as 5 guys or fuddruckers though. the burger patties are on the thin site. staff is friendly, the cost was good, about 6 – 7 dollars. there is not much room to sit; it is mostly designed for take out. plenty of parking. it is worth trying.

After reading about Whataburger(unrelated) on Facebook, I decided to do some research because I never realized the Whataburger everyone else talks about, and our dear What-A-Burgers in Richmond were different. It actually made me love them even more knowing that they’re local and Virginia-born so here’s my review. I grew up with this What-A-Burger. Even after the loss of Allman’s(still sad about that after all these years) and the many, many changes of owners at Red House, What-A-Burger has never changed and has never left. Here’s to hoping they never do. It’s plain and simple– burgers and fries along with other short-order burger joint items. The burgers are fresh and cooked to order, delicious, with fresh toppings. The fries are pretty thick, almost steak fries really, and sometimes they are a little stingy with the salt, but if you really want something amazing get the cheese fries. OMG. Just O. M. G. soooo good. It’s not the fanciest place, and I think they would do well to renovate those bathrooms, but it does what it does and it does it right. If you want a good, greasy, filling burger at a great price, this is the place.

A pretty decent burger. After noticing the Bama Stinger on the menu I confirmed with the cashier that this place is under the same umbrella as Roy’s Big Burger on Hermitage. Cooked to order on the flat top and decently priced. FYI– the burger to bun ratio on the single favors the bun, next time I’ll get a double.

Decent burger, and a cool old fashioned feel. Fries could use some seasoning, but the burger is solid and way better than any fast food place.

This is a old time favorite of mine. This is just a plane and simple burger joint. They cook the burger right then when you order and not popped in a microwave like other places. And they don’t cost a arm and a leg like the other fresh made burger joints. My favorite is the cheeseburger with mustard and onion, that is some good eaten. So if you want a quality burger at a decent price this is your place.

Also called BJ’s Big Burger or BJ’s What-A Burger. I pass this all the time on Jeff Davis Highway and thought I’d drop in. It is near Hopkins Road. The burger patty is pretty thin but surprisingly good(with pretty low expectations). Shoestring fries were also pretty good and fresh. The cashier says the fried bologna, bbq, and fried trout are popular sandwiches. Worth checking out for cheap eats if you are in working in the area. It’s mainly a pick up counter. They also advertise milk shakes.
