Bone-In ribeye is very good and at a reasonable price. This restaurant can easily beat the steak at more fancy steakhouses in RVA. This is my 5th ribeye steaks that I have at this restaurant since relocating from LA. 5-star. I dun understand why some people have high expectation before they come to the restaurant and then feel disappointed after the dinner. This is not a fancy restaurant to begin with, although people do celebrate bdays there. I am satisfied to have this level of steak on a weekday in an area, such as RVA.

WE were in an unfamiliar city on an unfamiliar highway… it was getting late and we were hungry and the last thing we wanted was fast food. We spotted Tripps and the curb appeal promised us we’d be able to enjoy a decent meal — but the expectations still were not very high. The interior was nice — but nothing special. It was clean. The 5 stars are because of both the food and the service. The menu was rather complete for a neighborhood type restaurant bar and grill. The service was prompt and efficient. We tried to figure out what might be Gluten Free, and when we asked the waitress she actually produced a Gluten Free Menu for us that had many items. I had the rack of pork baby back rbs with a a half dozed fried jumbo shrimp and extra crispy french fries, the way I ordered them — spot on! Ellie also had a baby back rib platter but instead of fried, she had grilled shrimp that were very tasty and cooked well. At the end of the meal, we felt like we had really discovered something special. If I thought we’d be back in the neighborhood, I would definetly commit to returning… but this is unlikely…

It’s nothing like going to dinner with your husband and watching him eat his delicious ribs as my steak is sent back not once but twice. Ordered it medium easy enough for a sirloin comes out rare and still cold on the inside second go round it comes back darker on the outside still rare and tough as leather. When the manager brought it over the second time I cut the steak and it was so tough I told her I just really don’t want it I’ll skip the meal she turned took my plate and never apologized about the meal I was served twice. I thought the manager really dropped the ball on this. Two stars only because our server was very apologetic but he didn’t cook the steak wasn’t his fault. We eat here on occasion it’s a hit or miss on the steak it is not the first time one of us has left without a meal. I blame this one on the rude manager.

The place was nice the food was good and my serving person was great. Rose rocked my oder and kept me topped off everytime I ran low. Yup shes gonna be tipped well. The only thing that killed my first experience was a bunch of waitresses in the back corner talking excitedly load. Some of the conversation was not appropriate for the business environment. One person was talking of her husband touching her breast, what they wear, what they do with their hair. How sexed up one girl look. I mean seriously, I love great conversation but not like that, keep it professional. To top it off, some one behind me was interviewing or conducting work business. This sort of thing should be done in an office or back room. I ended my lunch full but I don’t know about returning during lunch here again. Leaving on an up note. I’ll be back one day so fix that.

OMG !!! I was recently in Virginia visiting family. My aunt and her husband dine at Tripps at least once a week, its their special date night place. Long story short before heading back to NY, I wanted to see what Tripps was all about ?!? Can you say the quality of food and service was a knock out of the park !!! I was indecisive between the ribs and shrimp and the chicken brueschetta so I told the waitress to surprise me, who was so attentive and just all around amazing I must add. She brought me the chicken bruscehtta and it was divine, I saved room for desert and had a chocolate cookie pie with a twist of pecans and ice cream. OMG it was a party in my mouth !!! The food and service was EVERYTHING. Just overall GREAT. The next time I come to visit I will DEFINITELY be stopping by Tripps. THANKYOU I truly appreciate great food and great service.

Please read my previous review. For my money, this is the best steakhouse in Richmond! And their steaks are not $ 35-$ 50 dollars. My wife loves their egg rolls, they’re nothing like what I’d call an egg rolls, they are a meal. Personally, I like the atmosphere and anytime we want to watch a sports event, we eat in the bar and its not«crazy loud», nice flat screens.

I eat here often, and I’ve yet to be let down. The salads are the best anywhere. The customer service is top notch. I’ve yet to be served any sub par food. They must pay the kitchen good money. Having worked in all sorts of restaurants for many years, this place is just top notch in my opinion!

This place is disgusting. If you ate there and you lived, then congratulations. The service is terrible. The management is idiotic. My steak was rotten. I threw up on the drive home.

Tripp’s used to be my go-to place for steak. A few years ago, I would have said with confidence that the quality of the beef was the best you could find at that price point. So I went tonight expecting a good steak, the usual side items, and good service. The service was good, the potato was OK, and the salad was good as I remember. The steak just plain sucked. It tasted cheap, like the ones you get at Waffle House with eggs and coffee for ten bucks. It was thin, way over seasoned, and left a watery residue on the plate like it was frozen. The manager acted like she didn’t give a hoot if I was happy or not. We won’t be back.

The seating was in the bar area… There is a really loud and drunk female that you can hear across the entire seating area. This is not ideal for children. The waitress is friendly and her service was great. The entrees were really good but the appitizer wings were not cooked fully. The experience made for us to quickly ask for boxes and leave. I believe if we were not in the bar area the experience would have been much different. I will visit again because the food has so much potential. I will also give feedback to the management team about seating families in the bar area.

My roommate and I just moved to the area last month. We usually cook at home but decided to go out for the first time. We came here and was not disappointed. I got the bone in ribeye and she got a bacon cheddar burger, my steak came out a little under done but was easily fixed, it was well season and worth every dollar. Service was nice and managment was polite, can’t wait to go back.

Since my first business trip to Richmond in 2006, Troops has been my favorite steak house. Their NY strip was as good or better than any other place in town, and at a better price. But we went again tonight(New Years Eve), and I was disappointed. They no longer serve NY strip, as the waitress told us they were«going a different direction». We started with the sweet chili shrimp appetizer, which was great. The house salads are the best in Richmond in my opinion. I had the ribeye, which was just okay. My wife had the grilled pork chops, which were actually pretty gross. One of them was so full of fat she wouldn’t eat it. I always hate the hassle of having a restaurant re-cook a meal, so we didn’t say anything to the waitress until we were waiting for our check. She didn’t even apologize. Just said she would let«someone» know… which I’m sure she didn’t. Very disappointing. The day after I made the above review, I received a nice note back from Jeff, the GM of the restaurant. He said all the right things, and offered to send me a gift card and asked that I give them another try. He just needed my address. I promptly sent the address to him the same day via a Unilocal response. Just to be sure, I also sent the address via gmail, as Jeff gave me his email address. January rolled by with no card, so I sent another note via Unilocal 2 weeks ago. Still no card. Jeff, don’t offer to do something to correct a bad experience, and then not follow through on it. The result is the lowest rating I can give. What has happened to the Tripps I used to love.

Meh. The steak was thin and tough and had that really old frozen taste. Sorry but other than that salad the food here is pretty weak. Nice servers.

Prior to last, week, it had been a little over 10 years since I last visited Tripps. On my day off, I decided to stop by this place for lunch. Prior to coming, I knew that Tripps was a restaurant that specialized in Americanized food, but could not recall how good the food was on my last visit. How did this visit go? To find out, read below: The Good: First Half Service– Service during the first half of the experience was on point. I arrived a few minutes after the place opened and was seated right away. Once greeted by my server, I encountered a pleasant attitude and a server that was available to answer any of my questions. After placing my order, the food came out within 10 minutes and was plenty hot. Taste– I ordered the Chicken Tenders Platter which came with Fries and Fried Apples. The Chicken Tenders were 100% white meat and reminded me of O’Charleys Chicken Tenders which is a good thing. The fries were hot and pretty tasty, but its hard to mess up French Fries. Portion Size/Price– The standard price for a chicken tender dinner at a chain restaurant is roughly $ 10. While I was a little disappointed that I only received four chicken tenders when restaurants such as O’Charleys and Red Lobster give 5 – 6, I was still plenty full. The Bad: Second Half Service– After finishing my meal, my server did not come back to my table for roughly 15 minutes. Luckily I was not in a hurry to go. Taste of Fried Apples– I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I did not like the taste of the Fried Apples. It was somewhat bland and lacked excitement. Overall– Good service for the most part, good food for the most part and the price is reasonable. I would definitely go back to this restaurant. FOURSTARS.

When we walked in we were greeted and taken to our seats directly. Our waitress came and greeted us within a minute or two of us sitting down, she was pleasant and attentive. We had our drinks within a few minutes, and our food came out fast, quick, and in a hurry. My Husband was able to have a Jack and coke at lunch time so I’m assuming there was a full bar available at lunch. Awesome food, huge serving sizes on pasta, even at lunch. The best mushroom and Swiss burger my husband and I both have ever had(still had bits of fat and grit in it — if you’re one if those picky meat eaters). I kept switching from my pasta to beg for a bite of his burger. Yum.

My mom and I dine here quite often. Management(referring to Jeff) has great customer service. You can catch him walking around asking the customers about their meal. The prices are great. I love the house salad, greens and grill salad, potato soup(yummy… it gets better and better), ribeye steak, mashed sweet potatoes, side sauteed mushrooms(you have to try these!), chicken wings(fried), lemon chicken, ribs, fries, and the cheesecake(it’s amazing)… shall I continue? If something isn’t right, Jeff always makes sure that it’s perfect the second time around. He even brings it out himself. We’re always seated quickly. One point deducted for the bread. I can’t seem to get hot bread on my table unless I request Jeff to make sure it’s the way I like it. Otherwise, it’s room temperature or hard and the servers will take it back only to bring another that’s the same.

I was staying at a nearby hotel with the wife and kids and decided to eat here based on the recommendation from the hotel representative. We started off with a free appetizer just for showing our room key. The free app was the firecracker shrimp, which I thoroughly enjoyed. For my entrée I had the rib eye which was cooked to perfection. I was accompanied by mixed veggies and washed down with 2 dos equis.($ 3 each on the beers) My wife order the parmasean filet with sweet potatoes. According to her it was a tad salty but enjoyable. The best part of our experience here was the service. Every person from the host, bus boy, and our waitress were super friendly and accomadating. Great experience!
