Enjoyed eating there. I had the soup, the person with me had the Greek Burger and my kid had chicken tenders and fries. All of us left nothing but empty plates it was soooooi good. And my kid is PICKY! Would of taken a picture of our food, but … It was that good, couldn’t wait to dig in.

We are in the neighborhood, so this should have been a perfect snack place for us, but we enjoyed our visit there less and less these days. They are targeting themselves as gastro pub, but the menu is not terribly unique w/limited special. You can find most dishes somewhere else. The food execution was all right not amazing

Used to live in Richmond and we were back there this week and had lunch at Toast with a friend. The menu has tons of options and everything I’ve had there has been fresh and delicious. They are quite busy and the parking lot can be quite the parade of cars looking for ANY open spot, but back to the food… There is a varied menu and daily specials that are interesting. I had the rockfish BLT and it was a great piece of fish with a bold flavor. One of my dining partners had the hummus plate, which has winter squash and edamame hummus with pita points and veggies — good, with nothing too creative. My other dining partner had the fried wrap and said it was very good. I’ve had the sweet potato tots a number of times and they are very unique, tasty, and addictive. Service has been good each time we’ve been there and we’ve always enjoyed the food. You may have to wait a bit for a table, but even then we’ve had good service at the bar and didn’t have to wait too long for a table.

This is great hidden treasure. … It has moved up the line to be one of my favorite places to eat and I can’t wait to come again… Our waiter Josh was the best… he made great suggestions and the food was all worth it… Dinner for two and 3 take home desserts was $ 96… but we enjoyed every bit of out adventure… two thumbs up and a must!

This review is to the owners of Toast. I was just informed by Javier that I am no longer welcome at Toast due to my honest and straight forward reviews of the warm beer and mis-cooked burgers I have been served time and time again at Toast. The owners, instead of trying to open a dialogue with me, instead throw me out. This, from the restaurant that almost sent me into anaphylactic shock by mixing fried oysters in with the fried pickles and jalapenos, this from the restaurant which has not cooked a $ 12.00 burger to the correct temperature multiple times, this from the restaurant which I have patronized since its opening. I went in for a beer with my friend who has also patronized this place since its opening several years ago as a send off. He is moving out of the area and we decided to have one more beer at the old standard. We had our drinks, some food(amazing! It was cooked proper and safe to eat!) and headed out. The manager, Javier followed close and got very close to me to inform me that due to my reviews on Unilocal that I am no longer welcome at Toast as the owners take it as a personal attack. The owners who I have never met, who I know nothing about(except that they apparently don’t like to maintain their equipment so they serve the warmest beer in Richmond) decide that my honest reviews are a personal attack. I have been completely honest in my reviews, as I have always been. The fact that the owners refuse to correct issues brought up by patrons speaks volume to their customer service ideals. Toast has gone from an amazing restaurant to yet another Richmond dive bar which serves badly cooked food, warm beer and yet has an amazing staff, save for Javier who in my multiple visits basically stands around and does nothing to help. I was in the restaurant business for more years than I care to admit, I my family owned two upscale restaurants in Maryland and when there was an issue, instead of living like fat cats we took care of it. If a customer had a problem, we addressed it with the customer, we didnt send a lackey manager out to ban them from returning.(by the way, the ONLY reason I came out today was to have a beer with my friend before he moves, otherwise I would have never had the occasion to have such a rude experience with Javier.) To the owners, man up, you wont always get a good review, you especially wont when you send cold under and over cooked food out and the standard is warm beer because of a poorly maintained beer cooler. When you do get more than one bad review, maybe its time to contact the reviewer to see why they are so unhappy with your establishment. Otherwise, sell the place to some one who cares and get out while you can. I have never been asked to leave a restaurant, never been«banned» from returning from anywhere in my life until today. I don’t really care as I said, I had no intention of returning except for my friends impending move. Toast is «toasted» poorly on every level as far as the ownership is concerned. To the bar staff, keep doing what you do! You guys ROCK! We love you all and I hope you all get to go and work in a place where the owners care for their staff and their customers. To the cooks, learn to cook a burger to temp, its one of the first things I learned in culinary school. And the management, get off your bum and help out here and there instead of standing around trying to look important. To the owners, grow some skin. grow up and get more involved with your restaurant. I’ll be sure to spread word. –Peter

Loved it. Décor was nice, service was good, and food was amazing! I had the pork belly sandwich, and it was a home run. But it’s only a seasonal item :(

I will never come back here. First of all it was freezing inside with fans ANDAC on at 9/9:30 at night. Goosebumps all around. Our waiter was super unenthusiastic and dropped to his knees in the middle of greeting us. They were out of ATLEAST4 menu items. The food was basic and looked like something you would see at Shoney’s(no offense to Shoney’s). When we finished our food the waiter came and took it away BUT never returned/brought back a check when we said we were ready. We actually had to track him down to get our checks to finally get out of the place. Never again.

The food was excellent!!! It was the best I’ve had in a while. For starters we ordered the bucket of tots. The were sweet potato tots that came with an amazing dipping sauce. For the entrée we ordered the country fried steak that came with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus and it was to heavenly. And for dessert we had the mint chocolate chip cake which was excellent as well. The service was great. The atmosphere was amazing!!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant. It’s definitely a must try for either a girls night or a date night.

Amazing!!! We decided on this place by finding it on Unilocal, and we were pleasantly surprised! We both ordered the crab cake sandwich with sweet potato tots and that was the best crab cake sandwich I’ve ever had! Hands down! The tots were soooo good! We will def be back soon! And they are open late on Sunday!!!

We decided at the last minute to roll in here for the first time at 8p on a Monday. As expected we found a busy crowd for dinner but we were able to get a table right away in the back of the restaurant. It’s much bigger inside than you think from looking in from the entrance. Lot’s of booths and a cool long bar to one side(with a few TV’s and NHL and NBA Playoffs on). Being our first visit, we had to study the menu. Having read the Unilocal Reviews I knew the menu would deliver. Plenty of comfort food with a twist. Our incredible waiter/server Patrick arrived to answer every question we asked. It was pretty easy for me ordering a bowl of Tomato Bisque(thick, creamy, with cheese and croutons) and a Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad. My friend ordered the Chicken Milanese. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the entire meal was delicious. Chocolate Cake with Strawberry Buttercream Icing for dessert topped off a great dining experience. I am sorry it took me so long to finally get here to try Toast. I am so glad we did and now I can’t wait to come back and try more menu items!

My girlfriend and I were around the corner at Dave’s comic book store. Apparently old Dave passed away and his family was liquidating the assets. After we scored some cool toys and comic books we walked around the corner to TOAST. I put my full faith in Unilocal to not let me down with this place. I’m pleased to say it all worked out. Our waiter was cool and the food came out with no issue. I had the classic burger and my ‘boo thang’ had the mozzarella caprese panini Italiano DeGenero! Just kidding on that last part I was just feeling a little over Italian and got caught in the moment. Also in Italy they call those sandwiches PANINO. Anyway, the food at toast was good and we enjoyed ourselves very much. I’m sure if we were in the area again we would totally hit this place up.

My girlfriend and I dined here for her birthday brunch! I’m a regular but this was her first time. Fantastic experience! Adrian was our waiter and I told him that I had an egg yolk allergy when ordering egg whites. He was so very thorough in ensuring the cook knew and that I was aware of how the meal was prepped. I was extremely impressed with him, the food and overall experience. Thank you Adrian for your service!

Been to Toast before(a while ago) and enjoyed it, so thought we’d try it again. Four of us met for dinner. The waitress, Michaela, was polite but really lacked Customer Service skills. I’ll start with the food — it was terrific. Our table had the Bean Burger, Rockfish BLT without the B, grilled cheese special(Pressed Grilled Cheese), and the Turkey Chimichanga. The food was awesome. The gal that wanted the black bean burger was a little surprised by the amount of beats in the burger. It The sweet potato tater tots were good, a little less crispy than I usually like my tots. Fries were great. Apple slaw. Um… Was… Uh, interesting. 2 of us tried it and weren’t fans. Cinnamon? Brown Sugar? Not sure what that extra ingredient was — but, um, no. Dessert was Pistachio Cake and Blueberry Donuts. Both yum! The cake was light and the pistachio wasn’t overwhelming at all. The donuts come with a honey-like dipping sauce. I totally wasn’t necessary. They were terrific on their own. The waitress — seemed a bit troubled that we asked questions. She seemed put out that I wanted extra information about the beer and asked her to check with the bartender. She seemed inconvenienced that we didn’t know what we want. She never asked if we wanted a second drink, and we were all done with our drinks when dinner came(one of us was nearly done). She totally missed an opportunity for a 2nd drink at dinner and an after dinner drink. That’s extra income for her, and the establishment. The back of the restaurant was SO warm. We complained to the waitress and asked her to have them turn down the AC. She rolled her eyes as she walked away… Yes, really rolled her eyes. She did at least say something to the manager, who came to talk to us about it. It never got cooler. It was SO much nicer at the front on our way out the door… Reader’s Digest — food is great. Service and AC can be dealt with.

I’m in love with … a strip mall … Totally unassuming from the outside, Toast is my best friend’s choice for bringing guests for gatherings in the neighborhood. It’s a gastropub so they have an eclectic offering of comfort food favorites paired with an awesome beer list to boot. They serve their brunch menu on Saturdays which means you can brunch all weekend long at this spot. I was torn between their breakfast bowl of the day which had shredded pork, hash browns, avocado, and pico de gallo in it but in the end my love for parmesan truffle fries pervailed and I got the mozzarella and tomato panini instead(comes with fries and for that extra truffle boost just a mere pennies more). I made the right choice — every single one of my fry tasted like the extra crispy burnt bits at the end of the basket. A plus in my book. I ate every single fry and crumb with no regrets. My sandwich was also phenomenal and I didn’t feel like I had a ticking gut bomb after all those fries. I was also drooling over the grilled romaine chicken Caesar that my friend got. It looked(and smelled) absolutely divine. I can definitely see why it’s a local favorite!

I give this place 5 stars because as soon as we walked in, it was lively, smelled great, and we were seated immediately. Now here’s why I really gave it 5 stars. I just ate the BESTSANDWICH I have ever eaten in my 38 years of existence. The TALLEYTRUCKERSANDWICH almost made me emotional. It was that good! Bring your appetite though because all the sides are inside this mouth watering slowly smoked happiness of a sandwich. Holy f@$k! It’s so damn good! Now leave me alone, I’m eating!

Toast was pretty good! I enjoyed the restaurant. Things to note… This is a relatively small restaurant. If you are going to brunch, I would definitely call ahead to see if there is a wait! I ordered the California egg white omelet(avocado, pico de gallo, black beans, Monterey Jack cheese) with wheat toast and grits. Pretty good! I’ll be back! :)

As seen in my previous reviews, I am a big fan of Toast and I have had my ups and downs with them, but recently we have had a lot of really bad service that’s tough to look past. I went twice in the past week and the first was on a weekday and it wasn’t too busy. Our server was really MIA the whole night. He would go missing for long periods at a time and I think we sat for easily 15 – 20 to get the check after our plates had been taken away. It wasn’t that busy, so we really do not know where he was. I will say I had an exceptional meal! We split the bahn mi and veggie wrap and both were outstanding. Last night’s service was pretty awful to say the least. I was meeting a group of friends and we decided to grab a drink while waiting for our table. Our bartender proceeded to ID us while looking us over with his LED flashlight. I am totally fine being IDed, I look young and it’s their job, but don’t shine a light up and down like it’s an episode of COPS. We asked for some input on our drinks and we weren’t given any direction by the bartender. We asked to close out the tab when he delivered them and I said I would take the birthday girl’s and handed my card, while my other friend fished for her card for her bill. When he came back, my other friend handed her card for her drink and he just shrugged his shoulders and said he put all three on mine rather than the two I asked for. He just walked away and did nothing to rectify or reverse it. We then moved to our table and ordered dinner. While dinner was excellent, we had our server check in an absurd number of times to make sure we were finishing us and done. It was a later dinner, so it was obvious she wanted out of there. It got to an uncomfortable point where it just seemed easier to not get another round and close out our tabs so she could leave us alone. I want to love Toast as much as I love their food, but the service has been way too rocky lately to make me want to rush back.

After a Richmond basketball game, ducked into the strip mall and at the last minute decided on Toast rather than pizza. Good thing. Had shrimp and crab nachos, Parmesan truffle French fries and Oreo cheesecake! Yikes what a savory snack. Toast is a dark and reasonably cozy bar-restaurant, traditional in appearance. The food selection is anything but traditional, more culinary options than straight up bar food. Based on its Unilocal rating and amount of reviews, it’s doing a lot right and worth a visit if you’re in the vicinity.

Toast is awesome! It’s been on my bookmark list for a while and we finally made it. I loved the beer and drink menu. The appetizers we ordered were really good — the parmesan fries, seafood platter, and the jalepeno hushpuppies. I was most impressed with the hushpuppies… I could eat them all night. My entrée was the portabella and mozzarella panini with the sweet potato tots. Now, I’m usually not a big fan of sweet potato fries, chips, or anything, but these were very good. The portion was also very large. Maybe it was all the appetizers we had, but I did have plenty to take home for lunch the next day. The interior was nice and updated. I really like the décor. The service was quick and the ambiance was nice. I would definitely go back.

Our server(didn’t get name), glasses, dark hair, female… was SUPER accommodating and friendly. That’s always a huge bonus anywhere you go. My crabcakes were huge and tasty. Our appetizers were amazing– parmesan truffle fries with perfect seasoning and huge pieces of parm and the white cheddar jalapeño hush puppies were delicious. MmmmMMMmmmmmMmm
