Sushi and Roll in Richmond is situated in a good location, but the food there was average. Nothing crazy, nothing terrible. If you have an itch, need it now, that’s the place to go!

We had a group of 10 for dinner, so according to the gathered opinions, the food, while not exceptionally great, were pretty good. Sushi & Roll, as it’s named, offers many different rolls(a full 2 pages of special rolls with pictures) in addition to other normal makis. I tried a couple of the special rolls and the fish was nice and fresh. The service was fast and accurate. The prices are very reasonable. The restaurant décor is kinda weird. There is no name sign outside of the restaurant. The only sign has the name from the previous restaurant. Inside, they have pictures of deliciously looking food on the wall, but they don’t serve them… !!! I like the location a lot because I can go grocery shopping at Ranch 99 and karaōke at Music Tunnel before dinner. Very convenient. Overall, I give them a 3.5 stars. However, they did not have Green Tea ice cream even though it was on the menu, so minus half a star.

*Update 5/23/07* So, I passed by yesterday, and apparently the place is now open. However, I am not exactly sure what the official name is, since the neon sign out front still says«Da Chang Jin» from the previous Korean restaurant. The out of place, fake bamboo décor originally installed by Ay Chung remains as well. Pretty much everything looks the same as the set up used by the previous two failed establishments. Furthermore, the menus are entirely in English, with no kanji or kana in sight, which is never a good omen. Soon after, I called up Frankie B., my trusted bookie of many years, and asked him for the latest over/under odds. He quoted me, «Two months tops, my friend.» Shoot, I think I’ll take my chances, and drop down a few bills on the under. *Original 5/1/07* Wow, whoever is willing to take on the challenge of opening up shop in this cursed location should either win the brass pair of the year award, or be locked up in Belle Reve mental institution. I guess maybe their whole idea is to create as many Pan-Asian cafes as possible in one spot in the shortest amount of time. Within the past couple of years, this poor, feng-shui challenged address has been home to Filipino(Goldilocks), Chinese/Taiwanese(Ay Chung), and Korean(Da Chang Jin, named after the wildly popular drama). So, based on your knowledge of Asian food, which common type is missing from the bunch? Well, fear not, my friends. The void will soon be filled as a Japanese restaurant is on its way! However, with such a stereotypical name as «Sushi & Roll,» I would be very cautious. Stay tuned. Possibly, by the beginning of the summer, Richmond’s newest Malaysian cuisine will be here to serve you!
