What a great find on a sunny 70 degree Vermont day or any day for that mattter! I found this place from Unilocal while in Bolton Valley Vt for a 4×4 training course with Michelin. I sat on the porch enjoying a fantastic cup of coffee and a grilled brie apple sandwich. The place was bustling with locals who clearing know what a find this is. Thanks OTR for showing me a true dose of Vermont hospitality and a true gourmet experience!

Just picked up a load of Honey Oat bread fresh out of the oven and it may be the best bread I have ever tasted. The same goes for their pizza – I get it regularly and in my opinion it is in a league all it’s own.

I would have given it two stars, but our hiking pack was stolen and the only people around our outside table were staff that kept walking by with no apparent destination and when we reported it to the authorities they acknowledged an issue with an employee of the bakery. It is true the grounds are gorgeous and the food is good, but it isn’t any different than what you get at other Vermont bakeries. Definitely not worth losing a day pack with cash and credit cards. We arrived at 2:45, 15 minutes before closing. There were 6 of us and 2 other groups in front of us. 10 minutes later when we got to the front of the line we we’re told that we needed to order quickly because they close in 5 minutes. When I asked for a menu the counter girl looked at me like she didn’t know what a menu was. Luckily I was able to find one and make a selection within 5 minutes. After reading the other reviews I can only think that they must save the friendly service for locals. Very unVermont.

Every time I get breakfast at On The Rise I get the Bandito. It is the best breakfast burrito I have ever had and it is huge! Sometimes I say I am going to get something else but who am I kidding? They’re bagels are great as well, great eggy flavor. Everything here is good I always try to grab some day old goodies to save a few bucks!

I LOVE this place! Amazing Vegetarian Food. I brought carnivore friends from out of town here and they loved it too! Why do I love On The Rise? 1.) The food is delish! The portions are huge. There is a good variety of eats. They serve wine, beer, cider, smoothies, espresso and have a decent assortment of drinks in a cooler(coconut water, local beverages). 2.) There is a playground next door, they have a sandbox for the kids out front and a gorgeous gardens. Richmond is a pretty spot to be. Kid Friendly! 3.) They have music during the evening. They have a great sound and light set up. Why not 5 stars? Service is spotty at times, it’s a café where you order at the counter and your food is brought out to you. There usually is a minor mistake with my order or something is forgotten and left by the food runner/server. Despite this. I love this place and food. And the staff although busy and perhaps flighty have always been polite with good intentions shown… It’s worth checking out especially if you are a vegetarian.

You can’t go wrong coming here: day or night. They offer a great variety of food and it is a cozy and kid friendly spot. Their quesadillas are amazing! They are oven baked and very filling with fresh salsa and sour cream on the side. If you are wanting fresh veggie foods that are satisfying and hearty but not too heavy, you should check them out. Their salads, pizza, and amazons are amazing as well! Yummo!

We came here to get lunch after hiking up Camels Hump on a Friday afternoon. The front door had«Winter Hours» posted, so we thought they were closed, but the door was unlocked so we weren’t in. Apparently they were open but forgot to change the sign for 7 months. Upon asking why there were no menus to choose what we wanted to eat, we were told that we couldn’t order lunch because it was 3:00 and that we’d have to wait until after 5 to order. Not sure how that makes any sense, as they had like 8 people crammed into the kitchen and cash register area all clumsily bumping into each other seemingly with nothing to do, and seemingly with plenty of time to make us lunch. I ended up seeing nothing I wanted in the bakery section, which was all that we were allowed to choose from, but my friend saw a piece of pizza with veggies on it that he wanted(it was the last one) so he ordered it. 10 minutes later when nobody brought it out to him he went to the counter and asked where it was… they handed him a piece of pizza with tempeh on it and said here you go; but it clearly wasn’t what he ordered. They said they forgot it in the oven and burned it so they have him a tempeh pizza instead. Really?! With 8 of you standing in the kitchen and one customer, you forgot he had ordered a piece of pizza and that you pit iron the oven?! No wonder every other review on here talks about how ridiculous the staff is here and oblivious they are! We were reading the other reviews while we waited for his pizza and were amused at how on-point they were. Unfortunately since they didn’t feel like making us lunch, I can’t review their food, but we had plenty to review otherwise. Hopefully someone there reads all of these reviews eventually and makes necessary changes; or maybe this is just how things are run in small towns like this. Oh well.
