Had a great experience at Mission! The manager let us bring our dog on the patio since we were just stopping through on our way up to DC– some great southern hospitality! I had the brisket sandwich and a baked sweet potato, one of their seasonal sides. The sweet potato was phenomenal, the brisket had good flavor but a lot of fat on the pieces I got. I added the baby-q sauce and was pretty pleased. Hubby got the NC style bbq sandwich and two sides– Mac & cheese and baked beans. I loved the Mac & cheese! Overall it was a good experience and we would return for the great service and good food. Sweet tea could have been a tad sweeter!

I ordered the Chicken BBQ sandwich($ 6.50) and mac & cheese($ 2). The total came to $ 10.37. I was in a hurry, not in a good mood and didn’t want to take it out on anybody, and didn’t want to take the time to argue over the price. The cashier knew it because she offered me a drink. I said I didn’t want a drink. She said, «It comes with it.» Clearly she charged me for a combo. This happened 3 times with 3 different people. The cashier couldn’t get the drawer opened and asked someone to come over. That person offered me a drink. The person who opened the box to show me what was inside did the same. Each time I said, «I didn’t order a drink.» When she looked at the receipt, it said I ordered a combo. She put the cup back but didn’t offer to fix anything. I gave the cashier exact change. She said, «I owe her change» and gave me my .37 back. At no time did she say, «Oh, I overcharged you. Let me fix that.» WTH? That level of mediocrity from 3 staff members rates a lifetime customer ban. The food was hot, quick, and good. The service was just really amateurish and inefficient. I spent way more time at the cash register than was necessary. I don’t have time for that.

Overall, good BBQ and very tasty. I’ve had mixed experiences in which the quality of the meat I got was excellent, but sometimes not very good. The brisket can be kind of fatty. The BBQ sauces are great the the staff is always very friendly. Cool atmosphere.

Yesterday was the first time my husband and I ate here. The cashier was very patient with us while ordering. While we were waiting for the order, another employee walking pass asked if we were ok, right after she had offered to assist another co-worker. The order was prepared quickly and handed off by I believe was a supervisor. It was then known that we were first timers, so he gave us a selection of all their sauces and and a complementary caramel bread pudding. Overrall, the service and food were great! Price is pretty decent too, for good bbq!

This is really good barbecue. The pork is very salty but it won’t stop me from ordering again. The jalapeño and cheese sausage was great. The multiple sauces are all pretty sweet but very tasty. Everyone is really really nice — I think we were asked four times if everything was OK.

The more I try other peoples brisket, the more I realize how good Mission’s moist brisket is.

Tried the smoked turkey, brisket, and barbecue. All had a smoky pit fired flavor that was delicious. Tried about 10 different sauces that were all good. My favorite two were Memphis Belle and honey heat. Service was outstanding. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. We sang the Star-Spangled Banner at noon together.

This is probably my favorite place to eat BBQ in the Richmond area. The atmosphere and workers are always pleasant, checking on how the food was, and offering any help they can provide. The pulled pork and brisket are fantastic — my personal favorite. In addition, they have several different bbq sauces ranging from vinegar to tomato based. And if you are looking for something sweet after your meal their desserts are just as good! I highly recommend mission BBQ. You should stop by for lunch(noon) for a little surprise!

I always get the brisket and it’s pretty damn good. The sides are great and if you want to try a sample they’ll give you one. They have 6 sauces at the table for you to use but i really only like the sweet one. Staff is always friendly and the place is huge with a good atmosphere. No complaints.

Let me start by saying I’m a Utah boy. Our BBQ options are not what you would consider première, but I have my opinions, dang it! We were debating where to go for lunch and saw this place while as a stoplight. There was a lot of empty parking spaces so we were a bit worried it wasn’t going to be good. We walked into a barrage of people eating, laughing, and enjoying food. There is a reserved parking stall for the wounded warrior project, and the place is decked with veteran gear and badges. The employees were beyond nice and so ridiculously friendly! Let’s get to the real rating: the food! They had 6 wide ranges of BBQ sauce, only 2 suit my taste buds. I got two meats — brisket and pulled pork. Both were exceptional. I got the loaded potatoes and corn bread as sides and left full. Go, eat and enjoy. You won’t be sorry!

So good! I love this place, one of the few BBQ places where they use beef brisket instead of pork in their baked beans. Excellent customer service.

Needed a BBQ fix and had been meaning to check out Mission BBQ after passing by it several times. Upon arrival, the very friendly and enthusiastic employees greeted us with smiles, we ordered up at the counter, grabbed some a table, and our food appeared a few minutes later. We both got the«NC style»(with coleslaw) pulled pork sammies and thought the meat was really good but didn’t like the bread. Too thick and a lot of bread so I ended up ditching it altogether because the pork was plenty filling; the slaw was yummy and not too mayonnaise-y. They have about 6 different sauces and while they were all tasty, my favorite one by far was the Bay-B-Que sauce(Old Bay addicts, raise your hands up!). For sides, both the mac’n cheese and French fries were solid choices. I am by no means a BBQ expert, but Mission BBQ definitely satisfied my craving. Also, their backstory about starting Mission BBQ is touching and their overall goal pays tribute to the men and women that have and are currently serving our country. Overall, a nice(and very affordable) experience at this spot, I’d definitely return!

I’ll start by saying I made an account on Unilocal to leave this review. We were actually going to Floor and Décor and decided to stop at Mission BBQ for lunch. The entire experience was amazing. First, the cashier walked us through the menu since it was our first time. When we were ready to order, she offered samples for us to try. She was very helpful and friendly. I ordered the brisket with macaroni and mashed sweet potatoes. My boyfriend ordered the brisket and pulled pork 2 plate meal and got apple cobbler and baked beans. It’s the style of eatery where you order at the counter and wait for your name to be called then choose your own table. The interior is all dedicated to men and women who serve our country and has a homey, country feeling to it. Each table has 6 different bottles of BBQ sauce, all unique and delicious. We love a lot of sauce options and enjoyed this. The brisket came with two options, moist or lean, we both chose moist and it was very good. I liked the pulled pork also. My favorite was the macaroni and cheese and the apple cobbler. We ended up ordering 2 more apple cobblers to go in fact. The corn bread wasn’t the best I’ve had but that’s not a deal breaker, everything else was delicious. Service was amazing, food was great, atmosphere was homey and nice. We will definitely be making the 30 minute drive from Midlothian frequently to eat here.

Still 4, solid bbq brisket was very juicy, burnt ends were great… but just a little salty. I liked the smokey sauce, not a huge fan of the others corn bread was dry needs a lot of butter collard greens were ok, small cup for $ 2

Ive been to mission bbq about 6 times now, tried several different plates which were all extremely flavorful… even the lemonade and sweet tea were delicious.(especially when mixed together.) Ive discovered the smoky mountain sauce is my favorite of the six choices. Each time that Ive gone one thing has consistently been a let down… the cornbread. Its always dry, lacking a buttery taste and is super bland. I have wanted to go to the counter and tell them each time. but didnt know if that would be received well. I want them to change this recipe to be moist and buttery to complete what would otherwise be a perfect meal.

We just had some DELICIOUS Mission BBQ catered for work and it was very much well worth it! As I was eager to get my BBQ on, I did not realize I picked up the chicken versus the pulled pork… but let me tell you that the chicken was absolutely delish! The chicken itself was juicy and tender and I was very happy with my accidental choice :) I also tried a bit of the brisket along with the pulled pork… let me tell you… the chicken was the real winner(lol winner winner chicken dinner!) Dabbled some of the sweet heat sauce and mmmm! Delish! The green beans with the bacon bits were also tasty along with the Mac and cheese! The cornbread was also delicious and just the way I like it as it had actual corn bits inside. Sweet tea was also an added bonus! Would definitely go to them again for some BBQ :)

Rarely does a place garner 4 stars just for the service but this place done done it. As soon as we walked in, there were yells of «Hello!» and«Welcome!» Since it was my first time there and the room was vast, their hollerin’ helped me not look like a fish out of water and I could make a beeline straight to counter like I was a regular Mission Bbq customer. When we got to the counter, the lady asked if we had been there before. Upon hearing this was our first tine, she explained how the menu worked. I took a minute to decide and then we went to fill our drinks. We went back to the counter and, true to the lady’s words, our food came out pretty quick. It barely gave me a chance to take in the open kitchen with huge smokers in plain view. The condiments and miscellaneous items were neatly packed in a mechanic tool drawer-like thing(how cute is that?!) and we chose a booth off the side. When the lady gave us our food, she told us all their meats were cooked in the big smokers, a couple of other things, and our weapons were here. We listened intently and laughed amongst ourselves about her joke of weapons– forks, spoons, and knives. The booths were stately, the walls packed with photos of servicemen and medals and sports jerseys, and most of the tables had 6 bottles of sauces, a roll of paper towels, and a bottle of vinegar. The place was clean, and every detail seemed to have been put in with thought and great care. A lady who seemed to either be a manager or the owner made it her mission(no pun intended! Haha) to clean tables, push in chairs, speak to patrons, and even come around offering«freedom fries», at which point, I was too full to accept. With that being said, I was sad the bbq wasn’t so on point that I could have given this place 5 stars. I realize their bbq is dry rubbed but I feel a little twitchy when I have to smother something in a sauce to get some flavor out of it. The Mac and Cheese was VERY good, howevet, and my partner’s brisket turned out to be very moist, which is pretty hard according to the briskets I have had at other bbq joints.

After a horrible experience at another restaurant across the street, my family and I left and booked it to Mission BBQ. First of all, we were pleasantly surprised with the level of service. We were greeted with a «Come on downnnnn!» And a warm«Hey ya’ll». We immediately thought oh yeah we can get down with this place! It was definitely our speed. BBQ is one of my favorite things to eat, but I don’t get to eat it often because, well, pork, salt, fat, etc. I’m trying to be health conscious here, people! Pork and diet go together about as well as oil and water. Anyway, the diet went out the window because quite frankly I was hangry and needed food stat. So, I went with the ordinary pork sandwich and fries to see what mission had to offer. So, it was definitely good, but not blow-your-mind good. Like, if I wanted BBQ in the future, I don’t know that that would be my first option. I tend to go for vinegar-y, North Carolina BBQ and I didn’t really get that feeling, even with vinegar on the table. I think it makes a difference when the bbq is actually cooked in vinegar? I’m not a chef, so I don’t know but hopefully you understand what I“m trying to say. The fries were pretty good, but again that didn’t really wow me either. The general consensus from my family(7 people total) was that the food and experience was A-OK! So that’s what I’m going with for this review.

The short version [out of 5] Flavor: 3 Originality: — Presentation: — Service: 5 On a «mission» to find the best burnt ends in Richmond. Since I was first introduced to these nuggets of goodness from a Kansas friend, I can’t stop dreaming about them. Mission BBQ does not specifically have these on the menu but if you ask for them, they do sell them by the ½ pound or pound at the same price as the brisket. Do be prepared to wait about 10 min as they cook in the oven after being doused with both their sweet and spicy bbq sauces. While waiting for take out, the hostess was quite kind to offer me a complimentary fountain drink which was pretty nice. I noticed the décor is very much in line with honoring those that have served. There was an older gentlemen wearing a hat with pins with all of his tours. Another server reached out to him to take his picture and write down his stories about the military. I could really see that this restaurant stays true to their philosohophy. Now back to the burnt ends. They came in the standard to go box lined with tan wax paper. Digging into my first forkful, I could taste the mild spicy and sweet flavors. The only problem was that it was a little on the dry side. Not sure if it spent too much time in the oven. The second bite was much better since the fat wasn’t rendered out of it. The remainder of the plate was hit or miss in the moistness which accounts for my flavor rating. I would be willing to give Mission another shot after I have a better sample size to compare their burnt end to. Kudos on the service and honoring those that have served the military.

Great new barbecue spot off Glenside Dr. These guys make some amazing food. The sides are really good too, potato salad, green beans, Mac and cheese, all top quality home cooked taste. The coleslaw is a standout. They have a complete array of beers and drinks, homemade lemonade and sweet tea. The place gets busy at lunch so, try to get there around 1130.
