I was raised only about six miles from this place, although I currently reside in Michigan. Old Timers BBQ opened around 1967, my senior year in HS. The Greek man some referred to is the owner and son in law of the original owner. Anytime I am back in my home area it is a MUST to go to this place. I especially love the BBQ beef sandwiches and fries. The owner’s interpersonal skills leave a lot to be desired, but it is still very worth going to for the great food at reasonable prices. I’ve decided this is the best chopped/sliced pork sandwich in the Jackson area. It’s got a rich, smoky flavor that minimizes the need for sauce. Plus, the man who runs it doesn’t use a gas pit, but a legit, big ol wood pit.

I am going to give it a 5 just because it is different and I think you should stop. It is a very old school restaurant. It is like you just stepped back in time! The BBQ was good, the slaw was good. I believe the fries were fresh cut.

This place has been open as far as I can remember, but I never made it there until last week. From the outside, it has the appeal of a dive you would see on a a food network show. Nothing special to the eye, but you imagine you are fixing to have the best bbq you’ve ever had. No. First of all, I am not sure if he is the owner or not, but the Greek man working the counter is insanely standoffish. If you don’t want to associate with a customer of answer a question, please don’t work the front counter. I could forgive this if the food would have been what I was expecting, alas, the pork sandwich was just some thinly sliced deli style pork on a bun. Nothing special at all. I believe it was $ 4.50. Also, he rudely informed us that slaw DOESNOT come on it. Skip it.

I came by this place while driving through Mississippi. It’s a large barn that looks like it could be a set for a horror film, but it serves up good barbecue. The interior was not exceptional in any way. It’s just a large barn filled with benches and photos of Greece. The barbecue was surprisingly good. The smoky flavor was just right and not overpowering. The coleslaw was also the best I’ve tasted. It all came out to under $ 10, so it was a great deal.

This is one of the worst barbecue experiences I have ever had. Watery sliced pork that tasted past its prime and a really bad sauce to match. The beans were ok but the slaw was mostly sauce. Keep driving.

We came across this place while hauling ass through Mississippi. After literally skidding off HWY49, we ventured in. This is definitely an old timers type place. It is basically a barn type building, with a big ol’ open dining room. They offer really cheap sandwiches and burgers. Don’t come here with a desire for anything more. Two pieces of notebook paper clearly state«NOCHICKEN» & «NORIBS». There is an old Greek man who takes your orders. Do not be scared, he seems rough, but that is just his way. I asked if I could get a pork and brisket combo, he shouted, «NO, get pork sandwich, get beef sandwich, there you go». I didn’t bother with replying that I didn’t want to eat like a fat-ass, instead I just ordered both. But, seriously, the sandwiches are $ 3.89 a piece! That’s unheard of, especially because they are large sandwiches. Definitely order the brisket. It is nice, long, thin slices of brisket that you can see the pink smoke ring on. NODICING. I also got that smell of nice, raw meat whenever I took my first bite. I may or may not have imagined it, but it was lovely. The pork was nice as well, just not as special as the beef. The lady got a pretty good cheese burger, despite being informed that«They don’t got no lettuce or tomaters». They also serve some homemade fries, but are nothing to shout about as they are a bit mushy-they should invest in the Food Network; double fry those fries son! Overall this place is Mississippi, even if its served to you by a Greek, cheap, but still kind of nice. You can listen to people talk slow, and watch them move even slower.
