I came to eat in here with some relatives that came from abroad(we are asians) and Maxim was one of the worst place we have ever eaten. The food was pretty disappointing and not authentic. It was not tasty or good. Service could have been better. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. If you are really wanting Chinese/Asian food, just drive about 2 – 4 more blocks and there’s a shopping area, on the right, with many different restaurants and better options.

During a cold, dark rainy night, my boyfriend and I were about to enjoy a nice warm hotpot dinner. We made a phone call the make sure the hotpot dinner will be served until 11pm as long as we arrive before 9:30pm. Of course, they said they would be open, and so they said on the news ads. WRONG. We were faced by a rude, nonchalant, borderline obese waiter. Not only does he not care about the weather we beared through, but he simply threw a different menu on the table and lied about the hour of service. He said, «we don’t serve hotpot after 9pm.» The restaurant was huge but empty and cold as the dark rain outside. For a service inferior and disgusting as this, one star. You may wonder how the food tastes like. Let me simplify this: think of an obese Chinese guy trying shove you a menu you don’t want. There is nothing hot about the name«Maxim» in this restaurant.

This place has a decent place for dim sum and great food. Lobster special is not bad and you just need to be careful with what you order with it.

A co-worker and I went to Maxim today for lunch. We arrived around 11:30. They open for lunch at 11AM. The buffet was terrible. All the meats were cold. I wonder if they took them straight out of the walk in and placed them on the steam table at the buffet hoping they would get hot. The pot stickers were ice cold, the beef I had 1 bite of was cold, the noodles were cold and so on. The soup was the only thing that was hot and it was OK. We complained to the manager that everything was cold and we hardly ate a thing but he still charged us the full price. NEVERAGAIN will I eat there!

Maxim’s is an authentic Dim Sum experience. Make sure you go hungry and bring a group of friends because they serve family style. I love the carts going around so you can see what’s good. This is not your«American Chinese» take out type place. Some of the things they brought by looked too adventurous for me. However, I loved the steamed shrimp and chive dumplings. I also loved the pork and plain shrimp dumplings. The sticky rice is delicious! I would go back again but probably with a larger group. The service is speedy and attentive. My water glass was never empty for longer than a few seconds.

I came here to eat dim sum, and I left kinda disappointed. The pricing was fine, but I felt that the quality was subpar. Nearby Kirin Court does a better job with the dim sum. However, it seems like maybe I should give this place a second shot, for the buffet or for the actual Chinese dishes. But if the dishes are Cantonese, then I’m afraid it might still not hold up to compare well with Canton restaurant just a block away in New Chinatown. This place better figure out its strengths. And fast. Or just focus on becoming a buffet establishment.

I thought I had reviewed this business long time ago… hmmm. so there we go! I think it is my favorite dim sum place so far. I prefer their food to any other place, just seems to have more flavor and variety for some reason. Very fresh vegetables, the bread is amazing(I mean the pineapple bread, so perfect). Also the bbq pork, shredded pork, crab… everything I tried was good. For a new year they had the lion dance and was great! A nice way to surprise the customers.

For Mother’s Day, I wanted to get my mom her favorite dish: Steamed lobster on a bed of rice and lotus leaf. I usually order it from Sing Kee but just found out that they shut down! So I took a chance and ordered the lobster from Maxim’s. It’s an off-menu item; they have the exact same dish but with dungeness crab instead, and they were happy to substitute lobster for crab. I also ordered cheese lobster, and it was okay. So my mom loved the steamed lobster! She said it fresh and succulent and the fried rice was superb(I believe it was a seafood fried rice). The dish was $ 49.99, quite a bit more expensive than Sing Kee, but my mom was happy so that’s all that matters.

If you are a Dim Sum junkie like myself, then this is a great place to get your fix. They have plenty of selections, but you will want to get there an hour after they open. I got there right when they opened and the selection was limited. I will go back and I highly recommend this place.

Maxim’s is one of the first places I got hooked on dim sum back when I was in middle school. Going on the weekends with my parents, I learned to love pork shumai, taro root, shrimp balls. barbecue pork baos… things as an adult I now crave. We went back recently, one of my first trips in years. The weekend dim sum carts had all the old favorites and some new dishes I hadn’t tried before like some veggie dumplings and fried noodle dishes. Overall, it was pretty good. The drink service was spotty, but the carts came around quickly and almost everything we had was piping hot. Flavor-wise I wasn’t blown away by any of the dishes, but the fact that they were hot makes a big difference! I am still looking for a «favorite» dim sum spot in DFW, but for now Maxim’s does just fine for satisfying my dumpling cravings.

I’ve been here twice on the weekend for dim sum and I’ve liked it both times. There is a lot of variety, but I generally go for their steamed and fried shrimp balls, noodles, and chicken feet. The prices are ok, they can creep up there, so just watch what you order. I do like this place slightly better than Kirin Court for dim sum because the dishes here have a bit more flavor. The service is ok, not the best but definitely not the worst. They are generally responsive to your requests. Keep it mind that it gets really busy on the weekends so get here early and have some patience for cart service. While I like it, I don’t find myself craving for anything here. The dishes could be better.

Entered Friday, 12:00 Noon As far as their lunch buffet goes, it’s the best I’ve found in Dallas County FORTHEPRICE. Diners speaking Mandarin or Cantonese: 15 Diners speaking English: 3 Greeting: «One? You sit here.» Vibe: Like it’s a really hopping place all the time, except right now. Hot and sour soup: plenty hot and plenty sour — thanks Baby octopus dish: A-OK Ice tea: Fresh, prompt refills Food Temperature(the buffet deal-breaker): Acceptable Other items were just fine. WIGB: I would like to try the Sunday Dim Sum; I’ve heard it’s good, and I’m really curious what happens on that big stage.

So I have been here several times and the food is decent, but the service has not been the best. I usually take it with stride since many busy Chinese dim sum restaurants don’t emphasize this anyway with such a high volume/fast paced dining style. Well this time was different — my boyfriend and I were asked to share a table with another couple. More like pressured. Since we wanted to eat, we said yes, but the dining experience(as you can imagine) was pretty awkward and uncomfortable — ESPECIALLY when the other couple hogged all the sauces… The upside is, we saw new things that they ordered which gave us ideas of what we wanted to try for another dim sum visit. However, I am afraid we will not be coming back any time soon to this place due to our poor service. Sorry, Maxim!

It was packed here today when we came, so packed in fact that some of the dim sum carts never made it around to our area of the restaurant. So, at times, you gotta get up to hunt what you want(in this case cheng fun). And as for the food, it’s alright. Definitely had better dim sum elsewhere, but its not bad by any means either. Beef tendon, octopus are very meh. I do like the pineapple buns here as well as the char siu bao. The taro cake and other stuff cooked at the grill area is a little greasy though. It’s the standard i compare to all others growing up so there’s always here to fall back on.

UNLIMITED hot pot for 16 bucks. Wear your stretchy pants! One side has veggies, tofu, and sauces while the other side has meat, fishballs, seafood. Get a plate or bowl and bring to your table to cook. They even have free drinks-sometimes there’s grass jelly drinks, sometimes its just soda :( Since it is buffet style, the freshness of the food may take a slight hit and for the meat there’s only two selections(lamb or beef). However, for 16 bucks, it’s a pretty legit deal and I’m always satisfied after the meal.

I have been coming here for a least 10 years and it never ceases to amaze me how good of a deal the lunch buffet is. If you look at my pictures, you’ll see that the lunch buffet that is offered here, does not offer your standard Chinese buffet dishes, that’s because they serve AUTHENTIC, Chinese foods in their buffet! Everything that they show in their buffet– egg plant, dumplings, egg and tomato, fried seafood, is all food that you would usually order by the plate. The food is so authentic, and it just surprises me how not that many people know about it. I LOVE their lunch buffet, it’s honestly the must authentic Chinese food you’ll get and for a really decent price! Only $ 8 for all you can eat, AUTHENTIC, Chinese food. If you like dim sum, they also offer it here as well, they are occasionally booked for an event, so if you need a large place to host something like a wedding reception, this place has a stage and great food :)

I’ve been coming here every since I was a kid. In short, the food is decent and the restaurant is huge(for banquets). The problem is, because there aren’t a lot of dim sum or hot pot restaurants to choose from in DFW, we keep coming back here. This place could easily be a 4 if they tried harder. What I do like is the variety of dishes that they serve. The quality isn’t always top notch, but there are so many little dishes that remind me of my childhood that a lot of other Chinese restaurants don’t serve. Every Fall(around the middle of October, I believe) they start serving hot pots at dinner time for about 16 bucks a person. It’s buffet style and they have the typical items. I do want to point out that they make their own pork, beef, shrimp and fish balls on the right side. The left side has the veggies, questionable duck and some thawed out frozen fish balls. Also, you can ask for«ma la» or spicy broth. You can even do a half spicy, half plain hot pot. They don’t refill drinks too often, so don’t be shy when you get their attention. The dim sum here is just so crazy on the weekends. On my way out, I saw a sign that said small, medium, and large dim sums are all $ 2.99 M-F during lunch hours. That’s a good time to come, especially if you’re not ready to get knocked down by really aggressive Chinese moms.

The dim sum is good but their dinner menu is better. I love dim sum generally because you get such a variety of food in a single meal and it’s usually for a great price. My bf and I came at 1030 which being 30 mins after opening time we expected all the carts to be coming around but that was not the case. It want until we were done with our meal that the staff pushed around a much larger variety of offerings which we couldn’t eat because we were full. If you come don’t come early or else you won’t get to eat well. We had chicken feet, shrimp & pork dumpling(2 orders), taro cakes, shrimp dumplings and jellyfish. The chicken feet were good and pretty hefty. The shrimp and pork was large and good. The taro cakes eat with caution because I’m not sure what is in them. They tasted like they had mushrooms, pork and a seafood flavor so it was bizarre but stay clear if you have any allergies. The jellyfish was my favorite. It was very delicious and if you’ve never had jellyfish then you need to go eat some right now. Like right now just go because it’s the best seafood. Not sure if I’ll come here again for the dim sum. It wasn’t anything special and there are a few other places nearby that I like more.
