Thrifty Car Rental

I rented a car from Thrifty Car Rental at Boston Logan Airport. The rates and the car were good and the person at the service desk was friendly. I would just recommend that if you decline the toll pass that you can pay a daily fee for, whether you use a toll road or not, be sure to close the box when you get in the car. Apparently that direction was in the contract, but I did not see that, so after I got home I received a $ 35.00 bill for a toll that I would have paid a few dollars for at the toll booth. When I went through the tollbooth to pay, the man there told me the box was open and I had already been charged. (At which time I asked him «Where is the toll box?!») and closed it. When I got the bill I called Thrifty, after some discussion, they did reduce the fee that was added to the toll, but told me I should have known to close the box because it was in my contract. I spoke to 3 different Thrifty employees before leaving the lot but none of them mentioned the box in my car. Since I have never seen one of these, I had no idea that I had to do that since I had declined the service. I would have preferred a bit of advice from any of the employees. Just be aware.

We booked our car WELL in advance, purposely reserving a full-​size car, since the shortest member of our family is 5’10″. When we arrived (on Christmas day), we were informed that they had overbooked, but that they could upgrade is for an additional $ 100. After a quick survey of other rental car companies, we found that no one had any cars, so Thrifty had us over a barrel. Instead of a full sized car, we ended up with a compact car. Thanks, Thrifty for screwing us. Maybe that can be your new slogan: Thrifty, the company that screws people for Christmas.

I left an article in the car, completely my fault. I was staying nearby so went back over to the car rental building, explained the situation. They couldn’t find the article (some glasses) immediately, but took my info and promised they’d call if they were found. I figured, ‘sure you will’ and started making plans to replace the glasses.
Ten o’clock that night, the manager called to say my glasses were found, and even offered to bring them over to my hotel. I cannot say thanks enough for the excellent service.
Yes, you need to be aware of the platepass fees (steep), but do some research in advance. There is also a bluechip option (sign up online), where you can supply your info in advance and skip the lineup.

called 800 number to get drop off address and assure ²⁴⁄₇ open — told drop off was 2 miles from airport — it was AT the airport — but no attendant at drop off or sign indicating what to do with the car and keys — turns out, the dollar agent inside the terminal was the person to see — had to go all the way back to the car, get the paperwork, back to the terminal, back to the car for baggage and drop off key and back to the terminal to depart — very annoying — could have been avoided with a simple sign — no consideration of the customers

I would give zero stars! Horrible! They will not give out their phone number because they are too busy to answer the phone. My husband left a backpack in one of the cars we were looking at as no one seemed to know crap about the vehicles. After we left, he realized he left it — tried to call (this is when we found out they don’t give out their number). Emergency service told me — the car that he left his backpack was still there but backpack was gone. The supervisor promised to call us that night which she never did. I asked for her number and she repeated that she can’t give out their number. We will never rent from them again. They don’t give a crap about you or their company! We were lied to many times!

Just returned from the New England area and rented a vehicle from Thrifty at the Boston Logan location for a week. The counter person lied about the need for an EZ Pass, saying that most toll booths did not accept cash. What would have cost me less than $ 10 for the entire week cost nearly $ 60 since I took his advice on the toll pass. Don’t choose the bring back empty option… gas is not expensive and stations are readily available close to the airport… another huge scam!

Wish I could give zero starts to this god awful car rental service.
Was lied into getting an easy pass … I was told cash is not accepted everywhere. I declined ldw and cdw but I was still billed for it.
Called and spoke to customer rep and she told that I could remove the excess charge by visiting a thrifty car rental location… Went there and had to deal with an uneducated mannerless punk who barely understood English.
This place sucks and I don’t even recommend it to my enemies.

Reserved everything I wanted on line. When I arrived at the rental car facility with a bus load of people there was already a line 5 deep for Thrifty. All other rental car counters finished servicing the people on the bus but I was still 5 deep. When I got to the counter I found out why — the guy was trying to upsell me on everything. He told me if I didn’t take the basic coverage I was liable for everything — of course he new from the card I was paying with that it was covered — so an obvious up sell tactic. I told him 3 times I had reserved exactly what I wanted please set up the rental. The person at the counter made it even worse when he realized I was mad about being delayed and tying to be up sold on stupid items. He decided to review every item. I rent a lot of cars and everyone else has a kiosk, fast counter, or go straight to the car when people reserve on line. Not Thrifty. When I finally got to the cars the one they gave me was covered with scratches and has stains on every seat in the car. Not small marks — huge stains. Poor customer service — lousy care of the cars. Never again…

Wish I could post zero stars. The front desk salesman flat out LIED to my family in order to up sell and trick us into agreeing to purchase more. The guy plainly told us we would «be driving through a toll booth that ONLY accepts E-​ZPass» and there was a «new law» (his quotes) that would result in us incurring a 75 $ fine. Ok. Sure. So now what? «Well we have a solution… it’s only 60 $» (Of course) … Now, if the premise to this problem were true, this would have been a viable solution. On the contrary, this was a blatant LIE and completely false. This sales practice will be reported to the better business bureau. AVOID THRIFTY CAR RENTAL AT ALL COST.
Ps the windshield wipers were bald, the key fob was «low battery» (push to start would have been fun if the fob died…), and there was a problem with a clicking sound coming from front right tire. I also forgot to mention, they did not honor our original reservation price and with no explanation as to why. Reserved at 180 $, charged 375 $. Good luck!

Horrible!
Made my reservation with them 2 weeks prior and only because of price. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle. I was told they could not honor the pice then told me to go to the agency next to them (Firefly) and they would honor the price and type of vehicle. They didn’t!

Rude, liars, thieves. That pretty much is all I am going to say about this thrifty operation. Other thrifty locations are likely great but this one needs to be audited and restaffed. I’m not going to get into the details of what they did because it’s pointless. Just ask yourself if you would do business with any of the three descriptors above. If you answer no, then please move on to another car rental company at Logan. It will be the best decision you make all day. Trust.

Do not ever rent a car from Thrifty car rental in Rhode Island. They are nothing but a scam. I book the car in the NON AIRPORT parking but because K flew in the past 7 days they charge you the airport tax! Then it say you may be charged under 25 so another $ 28 so my $ 171 car now cost $ 598!!! Please share and tell everyone! Car Rentals place suck! Also have to bring in the gas receipt to make sure that the station is less than 10 miles away or they charge you for that too!

Worst rental car experience in USA! Refused to accept my New Mexico drivers license as it had no «seal»! Then wouldn’t take my daughter’s credit card as it was in her maiden name. (She got married last month.) then gave us a car with gas tank ⁷⁄₈ full, but wanted full upon return. Then wanted to see our receipt to prove gas fillip within ten mikes of site. What a scam!

I found the service here to be very awesome, many folks appeared so friendly to help out. I was a bit hesitant to go with «Thrifty» car rental as the name could mean a lesser quality car, but I was pleasantly surprised as I rented a Prius in economy, and the car worked well for my needs driving around Boston and the Cape. I found the shuttle for rental cars easily took me back to my terminal as well as picked up from the terminal to go to the rental car area. I rented the plate pass given the tolls around Boston, but of course weigh cost for your own needs for 2 days @$ 10.99 I found it convenient.

Despite the largely negative reviews on this place, I decided to park my car here during a business trip last week… not because I was looking to save money (although the $ 10/​day special was definitely money-​saving), but because my car, which is all of 2 months old, was starting to look like I was performing Santeria in it and was badly in need of a solid interior and exterior detailing. As far as I could find, this specific Thrifty Car Park seemed to be the only place near the airport that offered this kind of «detail while you’re away» service.
Honestly, I was concerned… when I dropped the car off it was very early (~ 06:00) and it was completely unclear where to park the car, if I need to go into the office, to whom I should speak, etc. When I went into the office, it was still unclear; no one who I could say with certainly actually worked there was behind the counter. People were milling about, about… it was confusing. EVENTUALLY, a reasonably nice but not terribly concerned or engaged young man took my information and gave me a ticket with information about what to do when I landed and needed to collect the car.
Let’s be clear… this place is NOT very close to Logan Airport; the shuttle bus ride was at least 10 minutes long. It’s also not in an area you’d frequent unless you’d lost a bet. As I looked back at my car from the back window of the shuttle I was hopeful but not certain I’d actually see my new car again.
When I returned from my trip and was awaiting my bags in baggage claim, I texted the information required to the number required and, within 5 minutes of getting to the curb, the shuttle bus picked me up. The driver was friendly, quite chatty, and… best of all, took me directly to my detailed car, which was warm and running for me when I arrived. Honestly, it was so easy that I was almost shocked.
My experience was good… it sounds like lots of others had less positive experiences. Looking around the facility it took absolutely no imagination to recognize how all the problems others reported could happen; the facility does NOT look to have great security, most of the staff with whom I interacted were somewhat unconcerned, and it is quite a ride from the airport. On the plus side, the place did what they advertised (in my case), and I left happy. I’m unclear on a recommendation… if you use this place, I hope your experience is largely positive like mine, but…

I’m from the boston area and therefore wouldn’t know about the rental cars. This review is for the valet parking. The car was spotless (we paid them to clean it.)

They upgraded our car size free of charge after seeing us having a tough time fitting a car seat and a large piece of artwork plus luggage into one of the tiny cars.
What I didn’t love was the crappy selection of car seats that frankly are way overpriced to rent, however, it’s a car rental service so you come to expect snags here and there. We didn’t check our own car seat on the plane because it was expensive, clean and new and we all know what happens to stuff on planes-​it gets ruined. So we rented the darn seat.
It was a week long rental and they were fairly priced compared to other companies and the staff in the lot were very friendly and accommodated us by upgrading the car size for free, which we dearly needed. I was very pleased and used the car all week long, everyday. It was a very clean, brand new car so it was fun to drive around in. Thanks!

Unilocal: please, invest in a «zero» star option (this place so deserves it)
People: just park at Logan (it will save you hassle and hustle and cost on a liiiittle bit more)
Returning from a lovely vacation to find that the car you paid over $ 100 to park had been raided in the Thrifty parking lot. NOTE: the car is UN-​locked the entire time it’s on the lot, in Revere, without a protective fence around the perimeter. When we reported the blatant robbery the desk manager just rolled his eyes (sorry…is this putting a damper on YOUR day?) and walked out to the car. When we reported that only minor things were stolen his response was «oh, ok» as if it wasn’t a big deal that the integrity of our vehicle had been compromised AND that whomever was moving cars around apparently didn’t notice a trashed car.
The «solution»: comp-​ed us 1 day ($ 17.95) for the losses (est ~$ 30 + a couple items which were won at a baseball game/can’t purchase them).
Needless to say, we won’t ever return — and will not encourage our friends to use this service.

I reserved a car from thrifty. But the thrifty shuttle dropped me at BUDGET, saying that they were sold out… And told me that they would refund the difference.
Fortunately, they refunded me the difference. Inspite of the inconvenience, I am giving them 4 stars as they refunded the difference as promised!

I would never rent from them again. They are not onsite at Logan but they do have shuttle service. The people there are not friendly and I don’t appreciate their tactics. I understand they are supposed to sell the additional coverage and all and all rental car places try to put the fear of GOD into you if you decline but you don’t have to be nasty about it and threaten me! Or LIE and tell me that it’s required because I know that it’s not!
If you rent a subcompact from them, it will not be a new car. They’ll give you a little putt-​putt that you better hope makes it out of the Ted Williams Tunnel.
The second time I tried to rent from them I ended up leaving and going to Avis.
I absolutely cannot stand Thrifty and I won’t give any other Thrifty in any other town my business either because of them!
