Tonight we were celebrating a birthday in the area and decided to grab some Chinese food. Since we had a large party we decided to grab some food at New Shanghai Express. After ordering our dinner from this restaurant, we were not let down. We ended up ordering a ton of food(pupu platter for 4, two pork fried rices, two chicken lo meins, an order of crab ragoons and general tsos.) When we asked for the total, the cost came out to $ 80 which was an incredible price. When it came to the quality and quantity, we had a ton of food which easily fed our group of 13. On top of that, we had leftovers for tomorrow. In the end, we loved the meal, the wait time was minimal, and the overall cost was amazing. In the future we can’t wait to order from this restaurant again!

Heeeeeeeeere we go!!! I’ve been in Boston for two weeks now on business, and had Chinese food once last week that was just terrible(go read that review from my page). The other place had such decent reviews saying things like«xyz Chinese restaurant has set the bar for Chinese in the area»… Yuccckkk. Because of that comment and then that disgusting experience I lost faith in eating Chinese food in Boston… Which is ludicrous because its supposed to be home of some of the best Chinese in the NorthEast right? Well this week I sucked it up… Dug into Unilocal and found this place. Ordered General Tsos chicken lunch combo which came with pork fried rice and a large egg roll, and an order of crab Rangoon along with terryaki beefsticks. Yummmmmmy. Everything about this meal was great… Except for one thing… The eggroll. It was huge, which made me happy. However when I bit into it it tasted… Off? Almost like cabbage was sour… maybe pickled? I have no idea but tasted like no other egg roll I have ever tasted so I put that down. Everything ELSE was amazing. General tsos competes for some of best I’ve ever had. It was crunchy outside, chewy in middle and the sauce was great. Also had a bit of kick. Usually general tsos is supposed to be spicy but it never is for some reason, this one was! Rice was great! Beef sticks tasted awesome, I believe they cooked them over a BBQ or some type of open flame because there was some charred pieces and def had a yummy burnt end type of taste to some of them. Crab Rangoon was nothing special, good but nothing different than you’d expect

Ordered delivery from here for the first time today and was quite satisfied. The shrimp and broccoli(which also has sliced carrots, as most do) was fantastic, with no skimping on the shrimp. I asked to substitute veggie fried rice and instead received regular fried rice without pork, which was a bit disappointing but it was still delicious. Crab Rangoon were average(they are triangle type, as opposed to flower type, for those who have a preference). Delivery was super fast, which earns major points from me. I’ll definitely order from here again. FYI, the menu posted in the photographs is a good guide for content but prices are off by $ 1 – 2 at this point because it’s old.

First off, the one star ratings are way off base. Read the other reviews for a fair assessment of this place. I was passing by and remember the place from when I lived in the area and stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. Not many people here. Seats to sit in if you like. I got a combo and it took a few minutes because they were back there cooking it to order, which I was happy about. I kept it simple. Ordered Genrreal tso chicken with pork fried rice and boneless spareribs. More than enough food and it was hot and tasty. No yucky fat. Solid 4 stars for this place. Order what you know you like and I’m sure you will not be disappointed.

Still ordering food from here and the food just keeps getting better and better. I’d say it’s the best Chinese food anywhere. This is the place to order or eat in. People are very nice and service is awesome. I will continue ordering from here

This is the worst place to eat. The food taste like plastic and they reheat most of their food to customers. Never come here or Oder from here they have the worst service. & on top of all that they don’t speak English.

everything is good here, its not greasy! and does not leave you feeling that«full-over ate-msg» feeling. the only bad thing is that they dont have a great selection on combonation plates.

LOVE this local Chinese restaurant. As a vegetarian they have what I’ve been searching for, far and wide, General Tso’s Tofu! It comes with white rice. Its the best, affordable, and so yummy! Its a family owned and run business. They know who I am everytime I order and their service is great.

this is the best chinese food in this area! i live on Beach st. and I always stop by this place when i have afternoon class. The lunch spacial is grate for my mouth and also my purse! It costs about 5−8dollar for delicious chinese food. My favorite one is shrimp with lobster sauce(just its name surely no lobster in it) and others menu that i have tried are spring roll, scallion pancake, crab rangoon, fried wonton, egg drop soup, Szechuan Beef, General Tso’s chicken, etc. i could tell that there are all good The clean decent atmosphere and self service are OK but if you want the fancy decorations you may disappointed. They have delivery service too with $ 10 minimum order and $ 1.50deliver change that’s quite cheap! so give a try dont be scared with oily greasy chinese food because you wont get it from here

i ordered from this place with pretty low expectations — i was staying at a nearby hotel and just needed a quick meal delivered, and wanted something with some healthy veggies and protein. i didn’t even have a menu — just called and asked for some kind of tofu and vegetable dish. the food was very affordable, came fast, and was so good! i got tofu, broccoli, carrots, peppers, pea pods, mushrooms, zucchini, and celery in a tasty and not too heavy brown sauce. The veggies were fresh and flavorful, and the sauce wasn’t too greasy. It was delicious! I highly recommend it!

Ordered delivery from here from a nearby hotel while staying for the weekend. The food came quickly, was hot and very delicious! We tried boiled chicken with vegetables, sesame tofu and a bean curd veggie soup. All of it was really good(though the boiled chicken is a healthy option so don’t expect sweet and sour sugary goodness haha) Will definitely order from here again when we come back into town.

Much like everyone else has previously noted, this place appears to be a hole in the wall but don’t let that fool you, the food is always good. I’ll have to disagree with Amy B from the post on 10/12/2010 about people not being friendly. I’ve gone to this place at least 50+ times and I’ve never had anyone at the desk be rude or unfriendly. The nice woman who’s there pretty much every day is really sweet and always has a smile on her face. There were times when they would keep my food waiting for me 30+ minutes after they close simply because I couldn’t beat the traffic from Boston on time before they close. If that’s not friendly I don’t know what is. I could go on and on about what menu items are the best but there’s no sense of doing that since everyone likes something different. If you are in Revere, you should really try this place out. It’s not much of a place to come in and sit(it is spacious though.) but if you need good takeout, this place is where its at.

A lot of places lose their consistency after a while. like Happy Garden also located in Revere. I left for the military four years ago and returned recently to find that this place is just as good as I remembered. The place is definitely a hole in the wall but I usually order to go so it doesn’t matter to me. The food is great, best chicken fingers and boneless spare ribs in town! The duck sauce is to die for! I read a couple of the other reviews and a lot of them say the service sucks but they were pretty nice to me. All in all the place is great, I would’ve given it a five star rating if I would’ve felt comfortable eating in the place. alas I don’t.

This place is kind of a hole in the wall, and the people there aren’t always the friendliest… but the food is actually really good. I love the chicken & broccoli and pretty much get that all the time. C-1 combo gets you chic & broc along with an egg roll and rice. Delivery is quick and food always arrives nice and hot.

Yummy. Best Chinese food in the area. They are happy to make anything you want even if it’s not on the menu.

On the nights we just don’t feel like cooking, we leave our dinner to the good people at New Shanghai Express. Every time we eat there, w e order the same thing: boneless spare ribs, fried dumplings, spring roll, General Tso’s Chicken, Sm Veggie Lo Mein, and we always qualify for a free pork fried rice. All for $ 31. Now, this isn’t premium Chinese food… but it’s not bad for a little take out place next to the Laundromax. And the service is always very friendly. Kind of gives you an incentive to wash your clothes.
