I scheduled my half an hour appointment Yesterday for a half hour, because I love how thorough Dr. Furukawa is. She is not open on weekends so I had to take time out of my busy mid day to drive from Bellevue, WA to Renton, WA, see her, and I was overjoyed at being able to have her update me on all the changes that I was and soon to be experiencing with my eyes. I am 40+ and my eyes have started changing and having a thorough exam after almost 5 years was a must as I told the receptionist when I made the appointment!!! Well I arrived today, 20 minutes early and filled out all of their paperwork. I waited and was called in promptly at noon(My appointment time). This was the last appointment before their 12:30 lunch break. I was in getting my exam and then the receptionist came to the door and told the Dr. that another patient dropped in to see her. At approximately 7 minutes into the process, she tells the receptionist to tell the other client that she would be with him in FIVEMINUTES! WHAT!!! So, I figured she was just saying that to appease this appointment crasher, but NOOOOOO… low and behold she wrapped up in about 7 minutes. She asked if I had time to come back during the week or next week. I asked why? She indicated that it was so that she could do some more tests. I asked what tests those would be. She indicated that they would be glaucoma, diabetes, additional testing. I asked her why she didn’t go through the thorough exam and tell me about the changes that would happen to my eyes. She responded that she would do that when I came back. She walked me to the front desk and called the appointment crashing patient into the room. I sat there dumbfounded. After 15 whole minutes my appointment was done and I was now supposed to re-schedule MOREOFMYTIME to go back and be inconvenienced, when it could have ALLBEENDONEIN my 30 minute time frame which I scheduled! I asked the receptionist if all of these additional exams that she wants me to come in for, isn’t usually done all in one visit and she responded: «Yes, if she has time.» WHATTHEHELLLLLLLL!!! I drove more than 15 minutes to see this optometrist, had to drive the distance BACKTOBELLEVUE, WA and she is only open 9:30 — 5:30pm M-F, so I NEED to inconvenience myself AGAIN because she decided that another patient, who CRASHED my appointment, was more important than ME??? I DON’T THINKSO! I used to refer people to this optometrist, NOLONGER!!! DONOTGOANDSEETHISDRASSHEMAYNOTHAVETIMEFORYOU, EVENWHENYOU’VESCHEDULEDANAPPOINTMENT!!! I told the receptionist I wasn’t coming back. I asked for a wet paper towel to wash the solution that the Dr. used to dilate my eyes off of my face. She offered a tissue and told me that I could use their small restroom. I was still too frustrated… I said, no thank you and just walked out. Approximately 20 minutes later, I looked at my phone and saw that I missed a call from Dr. Joanne Furukawa’s business and they left a voicemail message. I thought surely she was calling to make things right. I listened the message and HELLLLNOOOO! It was the receptionist calling to say that I still owed a $ 10 co-pay. STAYAWAYFROMTHISHELLHOLE! I’m going to pay them the $ 10 co-pay for the PARTIALEXAM I received, but I will also be letting VSP know about this SCAM! I called them to make the $ 10 payment over the phone and told the receptionist that I would be writing a Unilocal review and contacting VSP about this SHAM of an appointment. The receptionist apologized and said that she was sorry I wasn’t happy. I told her that she wouldn’t be either if she were in my shoes. I further went on to say that I told her Yesterday when I scheduled the exam, that I needed a thorough exam. She didn’t respond to that and just went on to take the payment. Telling me that $ 10 would be charged. I thanked her and hung up! Additionally, before my exam, I overheard the receptionist asking the doctor if they had the«Featured Name Brand» frames in which VSP offers an additional $ 20 coupon off… the doctor said that they didn’t although the VSP website says that they do. This lady screwed up my entire day with her inconsiderate BS!

Reviewed: 2014/January(restored from lost profile) «Each time we went, we felt like we had to do the receptionists job for her. She didn’t seem to know what she was doing, had to whisper to the doctor a couple times about our insurance, couldn’t seem to keep the orders straight that she had in front of her, and didn’t return phone calls. If I remember correctly, their voicemail didn’t(maybe still doesn’t) have their name on it. The doctor might have been trying to teach us about eyes during our exams(same thing for us both), but her methods were insulting and made us uncomfortable. The whole experience was negative over a couple months and we’ll never go back.»

Do not go here. The receptionist alone is reason enough to not step foot in the door– she has done everything wrong for us! She is rude and just awful at her job. My husband had an appointment here and when he showed up the receptionist had forgotten to schedule it, so he had to wait an hour to be seen. Then they billed us $ 750 for next to nothing, he had an eye issue that was not resolved. The receptionist had apparently mis-billed us completely. We had to go to a different optometrist to get help for his eye, after about a month at Optics One. Also the optometrist will show other clients your eye scans WITH your name still on them to give as examples. This is a breach of doctor patient confidentiality.

I have no idea about the quality of the services of the optometrist. My review is of the store, the products, and the staff. I went in looking for new sunglasses because this office is a VSP provider. The office is shabby at best and TINY. There is a very small selection of frames, and ZERO sunglasses. I asked the woman behind the counter if they had any sunglasses and… she pointed at those old-people flip-down shades from her seat. I laghed as I walked out the door.

Want a great Optomertrist? Go see Dr. Furukawa!!! If your new to the area and want a good Eye Doctor look no futher. Since moving to WA I was in need of a good eye Doctor. I came across Dr. Furukawa and what a wonderful find she was. Very professional, honest and friendly. This doctor does not just give your percriptions so that you can see but she does a very thorough examine along with tips of how to strenghen your eyes vs. just getting higher perscriptions. Oh I also got some very sweet frames from this place.

At first she seemed just straight to the point, no small talk. But then she eased up and seemed very nice. She also did several tests I have never had other optical locations do. So that made me feel reassured I will be getting a prescription that is correct(have not recieved it yet). So overall, I would recomend her!
