I never thought I’d find better Mexican food then outside my hometown San Jose, ca or even SoCal. But Los Gallos surprised me big time. The Flavors of everything is awesome… Their meats have great flavor their salsas are how I love them(more on the citrus side sour) The carne Asada tacos I had were juicy and flavorful Also had the super nachos… These are a must have!!! Real cheese and the real Mexican crema and the grilled chicken and salsa was perfect blend offfffff orgasmm in your mouth… And the nachoes are in house made and made thick(un like the tortillas they serve at salsa bar) Tried the micheladas I liked them they used lots of fresh lemon/lime(some may not like that) We also had a burrito(yes I can eat) it was pretty good as well… But honestly the tacos and super nachos are all I needed super satisfied A lot of the people eating had the seafood soup or shrimp soup… Or the shrimp cocktail … It looked really good I’ll have to try that next time i am in Reno I would eat here over any of the casino food any day All the workers were awesome and very attentive

Walked over after super bowl from silver legacy to eat before going back to timeshare to crash. Order at counter and then find a table and they will bring it to you. Nothing fancy about the inside. The food was very good. No complaints here. Worth every penny. So much better than paying casino high prices for food that’s not as good as this. When I need a break from casino to eat I will definitely just walk across the street to get some very good Mexican food. It’s just tables and serve yourself but I will be back.

Authentic with very generous portions! I had the spicy chicken wet burrito and couldn’t finish it. Chips a salsa(different kinds) self served, come with the meal. Coke in a bottle too!

I was just in the area around lunch today and Mexican seem like a good option for a quick casual lunch. There were quite a few other people all in here for lunch, but I was taken care of no prob. I was with a friend and she went for the 2 tacos and I had my usual steak burrito. My burrito was a good size and was tasty, my friend really liked her tacos. They had plenty of meat and was enough for a easy lunch. My burrito had rice and beans and chopped beef steak. I almost didn’t finish the whole thing. It was just what we needed on a cold wintery day! I would recommend this place for easy casual Mexican food.

Right across the street from Silver Legacy. I meant to go back for a breakfast burrito but I was too cold to leave the hotel again. I had enchiladas which were a bit bland. I like my food mas picante. It was a nice alternative to the casino food.

This spot offers authentic Mexican food across the street from Silver Legacy. It is quite busy; families are packing the tables and a few folks are stopping in for to-go orders. you line up to order and pay and then squeeze into a table. While the food was good, we had trouble with our drinks. The horchata ran low so my daughter and boyfriend received the last of the batch. I then had to wait 10 minutes(including a few standing back at the front counter) for the next batch to be made and poured. My daughter complained that her horchata tasted gritty and my boyfriend noticed that as well as alerted our waitress. Though I’m fluent in Spanish and translated, she still beckoned another waitress and and the manager so I could continue to translate. The manager finally offered to replace my daughter’s drink but shook his head at replacing my boyfriend’s. I offered my drink to my family and drank the gritty horchata. By then, none of us was enjoying our meal, especially since the folks we had dealt with were giving us the stink-eye and commenting on our rudeness. I left a very generous tip in spite of this nonsense.

Im from LA. I have tried nearly all Mexican food places in Downtown. but this place keeps it authentic. Service is friendly, nice atmosphere. Assuming this place derives from Jalisco. The food quality is just like back at home. Reno is lucky to have a good Mexican food choice. Definitely coming back. If anyone is looking for a good Mexican option for those who aren’t native. This is the perfect option without double thinking it.

Great whole in the wall, right across from Eldorado Casino Reno. Great portion sized rice plates. Had the shrimp rice place. Shrimp cooked right to perfection, great size portions of rice and beans. Not too spicy. Carne asada tacos were nice and moist not too dry. They also had a chips and salsa bar. This is not a fancy restaurant it’s a little hole in the wall not up to date on décor but who needs fancy tables and chairs to eat great food. Staff was amazing, food came out quick. Staff was very attentive and helpful. They stop by our table and asked if we needed anything and help clear some plates. Great place to go if you want authentic Mexican food.

I was in the area and on a whim, decided to try this place out. I’ve seen it before a few times, a few doors down from a yucky McDonalds which is often filled with the even yuckier scummy types who walk around Reno during the daytime shirtless, looking for drugs. I made the mistake of walking inside the McDonalds once, and once was all it takes to vow to never walk inside ever again. Los Gallos is just a few doors down. Once Inside, you’ll see your typical taqueria stuff, like maps of Mexico, various photos of the culture, and yes, the mandatory television with some random Latin soap opera playing near the front of the place. Best of all, no shirtless druggies! Yaaaaaay! I placed my simple order of a carne asada regular burrito, and grabbed a spot. Lots of tables, all with Tapatio hot sauce, napkin dispensers, salt and pepper. Odd thing, the Tapatio bottles were all uncapped and ready for action. My burrito arrived piping hot, and after just a few minutes of waiting. The burrito itself was chock full of thin tender carne asada, pink beans, rice, and salsa. I have to be honest. The burrito itself was a tad on the bland side, but this was easily fixed. Up front near the register area, there is a station where you can load up on fresh crisp tortilla chips. Near the chips, you’ll find a large salsa bar. I gravitated to the Pico de Gallo salsa, which was so tasty. Perfect to spice up my burrito to a wonderful near perfect taste. The same salsa was just as good on the large crispy tortilla chip. bottom line — 4 outta 5 stars from me. Solid, very authentic Mexican taqueria fare can be found here. Load up on the free self serve chips and their totally delicious pico de gallo salsa. *bonus tip — try the sweet soothing homemade horchata to combat any excess heat on your tastebuds.

We really enjoyed this food! Seemed traditional and it was def delicious. My sister went back the next day for more and said it was excellent again. I had the lengua burrito, son had el pastor burrito and my sister had three diff street tacos. All good! Prices are higher than usual, but considering it is right across the street from Silver Legacy it makes sense. I will be visiting next time I am in Reno!

Hot and Fresh! We stumbled across this place while we were at the Barbecue Blue and Brews Festival. The outside was the typical Mexican hole in the wall. Inside had a line to order with the usual fare. There’s the FREE tortilla chip and salsa bar to the right with several types of salsa. Your food gets delivered to the table. I didnt see a trash receptacles, so I’m assuming they clean the tables. If I’m wrong, I am so sorry. Now to the food. We ordered Al Pastor Soft Tacos(street tacos) topped with onion, cilantro and salsa. The Al Pastor was flavorful and tender and OMG so delicious. It was hot and fresh and not so spicy. It was again, delicious!!! There were so many bowls of Menudo going out that I am tempted to order it when I come back here. Maybe tonight. Again. Because it was so delicious.

Based on the neighborhood I would have never even gone near this place, if not for a recommendation from the owner of my favorite taqueria in California.(Tepa Taqueria in Stockton) Since moving to Reno I’ve experienced some of the worst mexican food ever. This place is like an oasis! The price point is a little high, especially considering how divey the restaurant is, however the portions are enormous. My $ 10 super burrito is about twice the size of any burrito I’ve ever seen it will last me at least two meals(probably 3) .My husband had a georgous Carne asada plate with beautiful, roasted scallions. The food is delicious, it has great flavor, and best of all is actually spicy, unlike other Reno mexican food. I will be back regularly, despite the bad neighborhood and crappy parking options.

Don’t let the sketchy downtown location deter you or fool you into thinking this isn’t the real deal. These are best tacos tripitas I’ve ever had. Tripe/chitlins may not be appealing to the average American palate but if you feel adventurous I highly recommend giving them a try. Here they do it right by frying the tripitas to perfection — crunchy on the outside like chicharron with just the right amount of chewiness and an earthy flavor seasoned just right. We also tried the tostadas with fish ceviche and tacos with birria(goat), buche(pork stomache), and al pastor(marinated pork). Everything was delicious. The employees are patient and kind as you look over the extensive menu board. The dining area is very large and would handle big groups well. Pictures of los gallos(roosters) line the walls along with maps and photos of a church in San José de Gracia in Jalisco where it seems the owner is from. There is an extensive salsa bar(try the unusual pickled slices of potato that taste like jalapeño — they give a whole new meaning to the term ‘hot potato’) and there are bottles of Tapatío on every table. Next time we’ll try a soup(beef, seven kinds of seafood, or shrimp) or the chili relleno. The horchata and flan are delicious as well!

This weekend my colleagues and I were at a conference in the Eldorado and for one of our lunches walked on over to Los Gallos Taqueria. The place was packed, which in my opinion, is a great indication that they have good food! We were standing in line and thinking we were going to have to get it to go, when one of the staff came and asked how many and told us that she would find us a table! Wow, great service right away! She made sure we had menus so that we ready to go when we got to the front of the line. I ordered a super taco and shared some nachos with one of my friends. One of my most favorite things about this place is the Chips and Salsa Bar!!! Can we say oh yeah! I do love chips and salsa, especially when I get to choose from a variety of truly authentic salsas! MMMMMMMM! The super taco was delicious, with shredded chicken, guacamole and sour cream. All the good stuff! The nachos were incredible! They were just covered in absolute goodness from the top to the bottom. We even ran out of chips, when does that ever happen! I had to use chips that were left over from the chips and salsa bar! It was just enough food for me and I loved every bite. I would definitely recommend this place, it was awesome!
