I was super excited to check out The Striped Pig, but sadly, had a very disappointing experience. Overall, the flavors of the dishes weren’t developed well, and the portion sizes were minuscule for the prices. Service was also very slow, and we had to keep flagging them down to actually receive service. We came in for dinner on a weekday night, and tried: –Charcuterie(Country Pâté, Foie Torchon, Headcheese, Mustard, Pickles, Mostarda, Petits Pains Bread, $ 20, ): The headcheese was surprisingly my favorite, then the foie and the pâté. The headcheese was very unique, but the foie and pâté weren’t anything special, and I probably wouldn’t order this again. –Hokkaido Scallop & Salmon Poke(Avocado, Served w/Taro Chips, $ 18): One of the better appetizers– the scallop and salmon were fresh, but it was difficult to get to the avocado at the bottom of the glass. The taro chips were solid, but we thought this dish was on the pricey side for the quantity. –Dates(Goat Cheese, Prosciutto, Pistachio, $ 8, ): Ok, but not amazing. The prosciutto was overcooked, and too dry/crumbly when it got to the table. –Grilled Cornish Hen(Kabocha Squash, Brussels Sprouts, Candied Pecans, Maple, $ 18): The flavor was good, but the chicken was undercooked. Although my coworker didn’t eat most of the drumstick area and you could clearly see that it was still bloody, none of the servers commented nor apologized for it being undercooked. –Curly Fries(Pastrami Spice Aioli, $ 6): This was actually the favorite appetizer, just because it’s difficult not to like curly fries, even though this version needed to be fried more(they were quite pale). –Wings(Cumin, Coriander, Yogurt, Basil, $ 9, ): Just ok. The wings were cooked well, but none of us really liked the cumin/coriander rub. The yogurt basil dipping sauce was a good pairing with it though. –Lettuce Hearts(Boquerones, Egg Yolk, Shallot, Chive, Sherry Vinaigrette, $ 10, ): Not so great– they only give you maybe 7 pieces of lettuce hearts, and the sherry vinaigrette was way too tart. Skip! –Burger(Sesame Bun, Tomato Bacon Marmalade, Cheddar, Bread & Butter Pickles, Iceberg, $ 12, ): Almost good, but the tomato bacon marmalade kind of ruins it. The tomato flavor was too prominent, and they slather this on the burger. I couldn’t taste any bacon or sweetness in the marmalade at all. The rest of the burger was pretty good, although I would prefer dill pickles since the bread & butter pickles just add more sweetness to the burger. –Flatiron Steak(Skillet Root Vegetables, Foie Gras Porcini Sauce, $ 20, ): Yuck– the steak was bland and almost had a mushy consistency. It definitely needed more of a sear. The skillet root vegetables were also lacking seasoning and really boring– skip! –Chocolate Cake(Whipped Crème Fraiche, Caramel, Orange Marmalade, $ 8, ): They need to specify that this is a gluten free cake, because as a gluten lover, I would not have considered ordering it. This cake definitely tasted gluten free, and was also overbaked, so it was really dry. The flavors of the dish didn’t work well together, and no one at the table liked it– skip! This is a really cute restaurant, and I love the interior of it. However, based on this experience, I doubt I will be back. The menu is too limited, and the execution of the food was poor. They also need to improve on the portion sizes, since you get a lot better food at many other restaurants for less. Parking can be difficult if you’re looking for street parking, but there is a lot nearby.

Excellent restaurant. Right next to Alys on Main, which together with Gambrel’s and Martin’s West really provide some good food options on downtown Main St. I think I ate here or ordered take out four or five times within a couple weeks of discovering the place. They serve mostly small plates, but reasonably generous considering. The halibut was cooked beautifully, nice sear, moist, seasoned wonderfully, served with some amazing butter beans and a few clams; I think the best prepared halibut I’ve had in the area. I had some kind of ahi tuna tar tar which was very good as was the cornish hen. the beet salad is terrific. I liked the gnocchi, it was delicious. The only thing I didn’t like the furikake chicken wings: there’s no crispiness to the skin or batter, the batter is light but mealy, the mouth feel is unpleasant and flavor is absent. Not a fan(of the wings). I am, however, a fan of the Striped Pig.

Two stars is harsh, but so was my experience at The Pig. So to be fair, I am not giving it two stars b/c of performance when there, that would have been 1 star… On the surface I would probably give them 3 stars had it just been based in menu and décor. Limited menu with many things that were over engineered, and the seats were very uncomfortable. However, the experience was closer to one star;(1) half full at 6:45 pm on a Friday night — bad sign,(2) drinks ordered — no ice tea(apparently they were out…),(3) all food came at different times and some manis came early with appetizers,(4) food ordered as medium came RARE and when asked, waiter said«well I put it in medium.» After asking them to fix, never got food all while others finished mains. When questioned, 10 minutes more to get and still rare and with sauce(unordered) on food, and the sauce is disgusting — like gag reflex bad. In their defense, they apologized and asked us to come back. Sorry, poor experience warrants a second try, menu, seats, food bad, sorry. Maybe your experience will be better. There are 100 places in RWC, give something else a try.

They are a solid 3.5 stars for me. Drinks: super inventive yet classic Flavors: great Portions: TINY(ha, you like how I capitalized that?) Price: somewhat reasonable I think as Americans, we are so used to «American portion size»… And this place definitely is not that. The cornish game hen was half a hen, and hens are already small… The steak, about 5 slizes, I would guess no more than 6 oz. Don’t get me wrong, we didn’t leave starving, and were super happy that the flavors were there and the food well made(except for the roasted veggies that came with the steak, overly salty). It’s just that the price-to-quantity ratio was a bit off. I guess if the dishes were a few dollars cheaper and they mention that everything is small bites tapas and that we should order more than 3 dishes between the two of us, it would be easier to deal with… But the steak did come on this giant butcher block which made the small amount of food at $ 20 look even tinier. Will totally be back tho.

My wife came here for my birthday. We were looking forward to trying it out. But, we called it the«Salted Pig» when we left: Every one of our dishes was incredibly salty. We had the curly fries, wings, ahi/salmon poke and another dish that we can’t remember. We hit a salt wall with the poke — we had to send it back. They remade it, but it came back only 10% less salty. We were confused: we’ve been to Hawaii and had wonderful poke. We know what fresh, good poke should taste like and this wasn’t it. In fact, at the time I was having flashbacks to flavors I’ve had in Chinese restaurants — was MSG being used to enhance the umami flavor of the fish? Whatever the cause, the end result had us trying to get the flavor out of our mouths. We also had a «Blood of a Saint» and an «Angry Italian.» Both were fine. And I get that the name«Striped Pig» is evocative, but there was only 1 pork product on the menu. The service was also fine. Just fine. Our waitress had to walk past us to get to her other tables, but went a good 20 minutes or more without checking in. But the worst part of the experience was figuring out a few weeks later that the restaurant had charged my credit card about $ 4 more above the total I’d filled out on the slip. I just happened to glance at the receipt when my credit card bill came. The amount(clearly entered on top of the generous tip I left) was such an odd number from the actual tip, I didn’t feel like it could have been a simple mistake. I did email the restaurant about it(I felt creeped out that someone was so comfortable stealing from me), but never received a reply. Overall, a disappointment.

How did this place end up in Redwood City? This restaurant is easily tied with my favorite place in Redwood City. Actually it maybe step ahead of it! The cocktails were not only fantastic to taste. But visually quite lovely. I had the Angry Italian and a friend at the table finished her drink and ordered one of the one I had. So lovely and interesting. The warm olives were fantastic. So so good and complex. We also had the fries. Which were fine. The aioli is silly but pretty unnecessary for it as it didn’t do much to add to the standard fry flavor. Then we added in the warm peanuts to our apps. Oh wow. Yes. Get these too! What a surprise. Spicy and really scrumptious. Burger was ok but sort of goofy in that it was a nice size in circumference. But was about 7 inches tall. I didn’t eat the bread even though it was also fine. The flank steak might have been a better choice for entrée. Totally going there again. My friends and I were so pleased with the evening we were already planning our next meal there — with beverages ;)

While The Striped Pig has a great energy and appears to be a good addition to Redwood City, they have a limited and somewhat odd menu. The Pigs in a Blanket, a staple at Sunday Super Bowl type venues may have puff pastry but the pigs are over cooked. The duck confit it better while the wings are also a bit over cooked. On the good side the drinks are imaginative and have fresh ingredients. The space is small but well executed. I would say go back to the drawing board on food.

Chef Romme and his team have done a great job contributing to the craft cocktail and small plate scene to Redwood City. The atmosphere is lively yet intimate at the same time. The staff are all friendly and inviting. We enjoyed the Halibut with butter beans and the Hen with forbidden rice. Both were full of flavor and the perfect portion size. Great bang for your buck! For dessert we had the hard rootbeer float AND the almond cake. Hard Rootbeer float was so simple yet so delicious. The Almond Cake was perfect since it wasn’t too sweet(I’m not a huge sweets person). I would recommend getting both, you won’t be disappointed. Billionaires bacon cocktail and Rose by the glass were enjoyed by me and the boy. We were both very happy with both! Worth the trip to try! Check them out!

The Striped Pig is a fresh addition to the local restaurant scene with excellent, creative culinary creations and fusions. The bar is the main attraction with small seating arrangements around the perimeter. The interiors are very simple modern(metal and wood) — nothing fancy but with nice ambient lighting throughout. Everything my bf and I had was great with the exception of his dirty martini which was made with an olive juice different than what’s expected for a classic dirty martini. The service was friendly and attentive. I enjoyed my «Beldar» with vodka, St. Germain, Aperol and bubbly — very refreshing with a nice lemon twist for presentation. The delicate glassware is a cool touch from the typical. For appetizers, we ordered the wings which were awesome! The fry was light and virtually free of grease, and the kimchi ranch– loved it! The squid ink aoli was an interesting novelty, but I think I might have appreciated it more with something else. We kept dipping fries in the kimchi ranch. The beet salad was a winning combination of fresh apples, greens and walnuts. I decided to indulge in the duck confit mole. The bf chose the Flatiron steak with potatoes and bone marrow which was both of our favorites. The steak was in little slices on a staunch chop block with a cute little cast iron skillet containing the potatoes. There is no actual bone marrow. It’s in the potatoes. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves here, but both agreed some of the price points are excessively high. For a $ 10 beet salad, the portion should be more than what fits on a small saucer. I didn’t expect one small mound of duck confit mole on a small tortilla for $ 20. The flatiron steak was also deficient in portion size. In the photos, it’s a case of «Objects may appear larger than they are.» Also, the menu makes it sound like you’ll get some bone marrow«with it» not«in it». The wings and fries were reasonable as well as my specialty cocktail, though. We’ll return but will stay away from the overpriced fare.

It wasn’t AWFUL, but it wasn’t good. When we got there we checked in for our reservation. The waiter pointed at a table and we sat ourselves. Then the hostess came running up in a tizzy as we were sitting barking about the restaurant was full and we needed a reservation. Our waiter had to explain we did. Seriously? People don’t normally just sit down unless there’s a sign to do so. The drinks were actually really good. And I enjoyed the squid ink aoli. However the halibut and the steak were extremely underwhelming. As the night went on the same hostess that barked at us kept adding chairs to the table next to us. I ended up being completely locked in. It was so uncomfortable. The waiter must have felt bad because he brought us complimentary brandy(I think, I couldn’t actually drink it) it was a nice gesture. Attaching a photo of how close the guy at the next table ended up being halfway through our dinner

This place is fantastic !!! Thank god for The Striped Pig! Now there is another place to go out in RWC that is fun, has killer food, and superior cocktails. The bartender Sam is super friendly, inviting, and easy on the eyes. He made our night extra fun with his perfect cocktails, on point service, and extensive knowledge of the offerings. We ordered and shared the pigs in a blanket, halibut with legumes, the flatiron steak, and the beets ! Everything was so so delicious! Then of course we had dessert. Perfection. We paired the wines with each course and it was modern dining at its finest. Their kitchen is open so you get to watch the chefs at work, which is always a treat! I thought it was awesome that the head chef came out and said hello, talked about the plates and was all around super friendly. What a great night!!! I’m going back weekly.

5 stars for drinks only. I haven’t tried any food yet! I had The Striped Pig bookmarked on my Unilocal ever since I noticed it was a ‘hot new spot’ on my homepage. It seemed like a cool place for craft cocktails and maybe a snack. I stopped in with a friend this past weekend for a drink. The restaurant is really clean — in actual cleanliness and décor style. My friend and I sat at the bar — the high chairs/stools were sooooo comfy. The seats were so cushy and it seated us high above the bar table — my elbows were above the table for once! I’m not short, it’s just that a lot of bars have normal height tables and really short chairs, or vice versa. I ordered a Pisco Sour($ 10), and my friend a Jaded Truth($ 12?). Both were delicious. Slightly pricey but normal cocktail pricing. Food was also up there in the $teens with a small but probably very fine tuned menu. The burger was $ 10 and that seemed to be the ‘cheapest’. The small plates sounded delicious but we were already going to go out to eat later. Our checks got mixed up when we paid(and the two of us didn’t bother to check), so I ended up paying a bit more for her drink and vice versa. Not a big deal though, we’re friends haha. I would come here again for a splurge night. It’s cool to have a new craft cocktail bar in the area!

Applying ONE star, only because NO star would not allow one to provide a review. Had high hopes for this establishment, it looked presentable, that said, not quite sure what the are going for As they have an over sized bar and really very few tables. The noise level is incredible, the hostess had a hard time talking on a phone. Extremely pricey and unimaginative wine list. Server asked if the bottle of Cabernet needed to be CHILLED ??? $ 6.00 for bread and butter and it was JUST bread and butter. The charcuterie board was just OK. Everything tasted salty. Good points the burger was good, as was the Cornish game hen. Would I return, under the current condition I don’t think so.

Love, love, LOVE this trendy new gastropub that just opened in Redwood City! The restaurant is small and the menu is on the more limited side, but I feel restaurants that do that tend to execute their focused dishes better. Ingredients were fresh and service was good. I prefer variety over quantity so the small plates here were perfect to share. Ahi Tuna — light, fresh and beautifully presented. Especially liked the touch of uni foam. Curly Fries with Squid Ink Aioli — wasn’t bad, exactly what you would expect. Squid ink flavor in the aioli didn’t really come out though and was overpowered by the citrus. But hey, who doesn’t love curly fries?! Chicken Wings with Kimchi Ranch — the wings were ok. Dry seasoned vs. sauced. The kimchi ranch though was amazing! Pigs in a Blanket — MUSTTRY! The mini sausages were incredibly juicy and wrapped with a flaky croissant like puff pastry. The honey mustard was intense — sweet with a bold kick! Charcuterie Plate — ANOTHERMUSTTRY! Both the country pâté and foie torchon were amazing! Also came with assorted picked veggies, peach mostarda, mustard, and head cheese. Flavors were balanced and blended so well together! Cocktails — Tried the Blood of a Saint and Smokin’ Gun! Both were fabulous — presentation was pretty and they tasted great!

Seems like there are gastopubs opening up everywhere in RWC. We had a really nice date-night dinner here this evening. It’s a pretty small restaurant; we sat in the back corner so we had a nice view of what was happening in the kitchen. Food-wise, the halibut with clams, beans, and chorizo is a really nice combination of flavors, and the halibut was perfectly tender. The chicken wings were crispy and flavorful(with kimchi ranch dipping sauce). Pigs-in-a-blanket were really adorable. Finished everything off with a root beer float. The service was really friendly and attentive, despite us sitting in the back corner. Will definitely be back again; we’re excited to try a few more things on the menu.

***************************** 1432 *************************** I have tried chef Erik food since his days at Alexander’s Steakhouse Cupertino. Joined him is chef Andrew, another talented chef in the Peninsula, together The Striped Pig was born. Chef Erik Romme is talented and he can work his magic on plating. I’m looking forward to the next few months to see if he’s able to put his arts on the plates at The Striped Pig The Striped Pig is a small gastropub in downtown Redwood City. Less than 50 seats, about 12 seats at the bar, it’s a much smaller spot that I thought. The food was solid overall, tapas style, everything was UNDER $ 18, a generous portion for the price. — CURLYFRIES, OLDBAY, SQUIDINKAIOLI — the sauce didn’t do it for us. — GRILLEDDUCKHEARTS, FIGS, PROSCIUTTO, SALSAVERDE — very good, creative, and a dish that goes well with drinking, you should try it! — WINGS, FURIKAKE, KIMCHIRANCH — good. — HALIBUT, CLAMS, CHORIZO, BUTTERBEANS — delicious, a MUSTTRY. — AHITARTAR, UNIFOAM, SMOKEDTROUTROE, FRESNOCHILIS — a refreshing take on traditional ahi tartar, it was very good. However, in that presentation, at a drinking bar, it’s tough for us to share and move it around at the bar top. Plus it would look bigger portion in a different plating. Just a thought! We sat at the bar. The bartender knows his drink, But he was annoying at first by our group. I guess because I was asking where he worked before. My friends had the cocktails which they loved. I went with Iron Horse Vineyards unoaked Chardonnay by the glass, well priced. I love the space, modern, simple, spaces in between, almost feel as they could fill more tables in. We came on the first week of the opening, the noise was very loud. I guess the beautiful high ceiling just didn’t do it for the space. We sent a few friends there already. Especially if you are gluten-free, ask chef Erik, he can surely navigate the menu for you. I’m looking forward to come back when they settle in after the first month.

Great experience here tonight with all F & B! Will come back — hanger steak was perfectly prepared and accompanied with skillet potatoes. Tasty pigs in a blanket — great cocktails and a wonderful Coachella Valley Saison. Unfortunately the fruited salad was amazingly small for $ 9 although creative. Surprisingly the people we walked out the door with had a complete opposite experience … Sent their cocktails and soggy French fries back. We were happy and the girl at the bar making cocktails was superb!

3⁄5: The wings are OK. The Kimchi ranch dressing is really good. 3⁄5: The Hella Monkey’s cocktail is OK: Monkey 47 gin, amaro nonino, orange flower water, egg white, hella orange bitters. It’s an interesting sour drink with good bitter balance. However, it tastes a little too much like air freshener; it reminds me of the smell of the air freshener /detergent isle of the grocery store. 4⁄5: The almond cake is good. Nice flavor, interesting textures with the grilled peach and vanilla mascarpone.

What a gastronomic experience. I came(I CAME) on the soft opening and tasted some amazing dishes.(Hence small serving sizes in photos) Interior is sleek, modern, and inviting. Service was amazing and the food… oh man the food: Beet Salad — the most amazing medley of veggies to waken the palette Wings with Kimchi Ranch — kimchi. freaking. ranch Seasoned Fries with Squid Ink Aioli — salty fries + briny Aioli = addiction Sliders — holy mother of all sliders, they butter and crisp the bun on the grill, AND the hamburger is juicy af Pigs in a Blanket — dip this in the honey mustard vinaigrette. Do it. Chicken Heart Kabob with fried Prosciutto — cooked to perfection and the bits of fried Prosciutto is love Black Rice with Lap Chong — amazing ratio of rice to chinese sausage, savoury Quail Skewers — tender and juicy. Umph. Brilliant menu — Chef Eric is true genius mastermind. A gem of a restaurant in Redwood City. Please come on opening day Oct. 6. The ONLY downside is that parking might be difficult since the area is so packed. Definitely worth it though.
