I can only to speak one dish, but the chicken curry lunch plate with brown rice was phenomenal. I like strong chinese chicken curry — oftentimes the sauce is too weak and diluted. Here it is packed full of flavor. Ambiance wise it’s one step above a hole in the wall, but the staff are nice and the service quick. The hot and sour soup that came with it was just OK. They have some work to do there.

I asked the guy should I get the chicken salad or the chicken corn soup. He coyly responds with obviously a fake laugh and smile — the chicken salad. I want a refund. Oh, and my coworker got the mongolian beef lunch special — mostly rice. Won’t be going back there again.

Entrees were very good especially the Mission China Beef, best thing we got. However the sides were lacking in flavor especially the Chow Mien so disappointing. There wasn’t even a color change on the noodles like there was no sauce at all, and for combo we have a few spare chunks of meat and two shrimp. The Malaysian Fried Rice was different but good, but the basil was a little overpowering. I will probably go here again but will also be on the lookout for another restaurant. Sushi place next door is great!

Mission China is the rebirth of Mango Bay, a once great Malaysian restaurant that featured a very talented line up of Malaysian chefs. I used to frequent Mango Bay and was impressed with everything I had. Over time, the dishes became inconsistent — sometimes great, good, or downright bad. Mission China offers a mix of some of the dishes Mango Bay used to serve along with standard Chinese cuisine. We opted for the limited Malaysian dishes that were once greats at Mango Bay along with a couple Chinese dishes. Unfortunately, each dish turned out to be a disappointing reminder of Mango Bay’s final years. If only the owner could bring back the original chefs from Mango Bay or at least stick to the recipes of their once great dishes. Among the dishes I don’t recommend: Wor wonton soup — bland Basil chicken — not bad but we ordered mango chicken, but they were out of mangos Malaysian fried rice — dry, oily, overly peppery Chow Kue Teow noodles — bland

I was pleasantly surprised. The place is in a strip mall, and I expected mediocre food. However, the lunch dishes were tasty and fresh.

Fried rice and Pad Thai is ok, tried the green curry, found a long hair in the dish. Not good.

FIRSTANDFOREMOST: Yuk. THATSAID: Greasy. Salty. And still flavorless. How’d they do that? INBRIEF: I gave two stars because the servers are nice. But there are plenty of other places in walking distance. Eat at one of them.

I’ve been working at a company on Shoreline Drive that is totally in walking distance to this restaurant. Met a friend that I hadn’t seen in a few years and had lunch here. The hot and sour soup was both spicy and tangy. I enjoy just about any Chinese dish but my «go-to» is Tomato Beef over rice. These folks did a great job on it. My friend had sweet and sour chicken and she seemed to enjoy it as well. The wait staff was both attentive and friendly. I got the feeling that this restaurant tones it down for lunch and then gets a bit more formal for dinner. I really enjoyed this spot and would love to go back to check out other dishes.

Like the last reviewer, I don’t understand the negative reviews for Mission China. Their food is fresh and dependable. I am a patron on a regular basis, and I particularly like the Pad Thai. My boyfriend is a huge fan of the Szechwan Beef, though I find it sometimes a tad too salty(but I still help him eat it, anyway, ha!). The owner(I’m assuming the owner is the man who is the greeter and there most of the time) is always pleasant and accommodating.

Given the reviews I was not expecting much from this restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered a couple of lunch specials. I got the Kung Pao shrimp and my husband got the Kung Pao chicken. I thought my shrimp dish was delicious. My husband wasn’t a big fan of the chicken version. It may have been made with dark meat, which we are not fans of, but had a really good assortment of veggies. The hot and sour soup was just ok. The broth was very light and didn’t have much flavor. It would be great if they could add brown rice to their menu. The portions were adequate. Overall, I would dine here again.

Man I had lunch there four hours ago and I still have garlic-breath. It’s like the chef took an entire handful and put it in with my stir-fry. OK in a pinch for a quick chinese lunch, but nothing special.

Yumm! Don’t think of this as a Chinese restaurant. Yes, they have pot stickers, Chinese chicken salad, and won ton soup. They also have roti, pad thai, Thai iced tea, chicken satay, and shrimp tempura. Lots of dishes with black beans. Lots of vegetarian options(I don’t ever recall seeing veggie potstickers on a menu before). We had the regular potstickers(good), the Chinese chicken salad(slightly vinegary but after the first bite I didn’t notice), and the Mission China soup: salmon, shrimp, tomato, tofu and vegetable in miso broth(«vegetable» was spinach and the flavors were interesting and tasty). It’s sad to see that some of the previous reviews are so poor. We’ve been to a lot of Asian restaurants(it’s the Bay Area, duh) and thought this was definitely worth coming back to.

I go there for lunch often. Food is pretty good and service is good. The price is about right although it is a little higher than the Yeah(closed) before.

Too much MSG in their dishes. Hot and sour soup has too much starch in it makes it feel gluey :(

Shouldn’t this be linked to the Mango Bay review? I went after their name change, and the menu was the exact same. It just said Mission China on it instead of Mango Bay, with ambiguously asian variety like pad thai, szechuan chicken, sushi, etc. C’mon Redwood Shores, you have all these great tech companies across the street and you have bad dining options. Went to Mango Bay once, had a very poor experience then. Came here last week with some coworkers, ordered cashew nut chicken, and it was just bad. Friend’s meals had obvious previously frozen vegetables like peas and lima beans in theirs, and mine was completely flavorless. I asked for hot sauce, and ended up dumping a huge bowl of it on my meal to inject some flavor. It took me walking up the counter and grabbing a pitcher to refill my water after I was dying from the hot sauce. Overall poor experience and poor quality food. I think they just change their name repeatedly in order to start over on Unilocal, but they make no changes to the menu or food quality! Hopefully Unilocal links this one to Mango Bay…

Mango Bay was okay and so is this one. Nothing special. The service was decent. They refilled our glasses and all. Food was prepared quick and I got what I ordered, but nothing special about the food. I guess it’s because this place caters to the non-Chinese people and those people don’t know any better than sweet and sour pork or Szechuan Beef with rice. I will not be back unless my company throws a group lunch… and pays for it. Better to go up to Foster City and go to Cooking Papa!!! Much better Chinese food there.(My coworkers are seemed happier there too when I take ‘em there…)

The owner of Mission China is wonderful and her workers also exude that same friendliness and warmth. The restaurant has an inviting environment which makes you feel like you are at home. Although many of the dishes are great, my favorite is the Mongolian beef. It can be made to be spicy, but I asked for it to be mild and it was just perfect over brown rice. I would highly recommend trying that dish along with one of their vegetable dishes. The location is great and parking is easy. They also have a dedicated catering service which is great for any size company or for a party of any sort. I know the owner has a high expectation on her restaurant’s level of service, so whether you are eating in, or have an order to be delivered, you can expect nothing but the best. Great tasting food with impeccable service. A recipe for success and satisfaction. Definitely the best Chinese restaurant in the area.

I just had lunch here and I was quite impressed. The service was efficient and excellent. They were bringing me my soup before I even placed an order for lunch. They also made sure my water glass was always full. The décor is nice and cozy with plenty of space. Although the napkins are paper they are rich colors placed in the water glasses giving it a classy look. I am a huge fan of hot and sour soup and have tried many places over the years and this one was one of the top. Nice balance of flavors, not to sour and not to spicy. I commented on how much I liked it so they gave me a second bowl to take home(no charge). I ordered the Kung Pao chicken(no water chestnuts) and was pleasantly surprised. Just enough heat to keep my nose running a bit but not soo much to make it unbearable. Since I live and work here in the shores I will be back often :)

Our neighborhood Chinese place recently closed it’d doors(Yeah) but as luck would have it another opened(Mission China). This restaurant is located in the former space of Mango Bay. There has been a slight interior re-model but is basically the same as it was before(which if you remember was pretty decent). I wish I could say the same for the food. We picked up some take-out and were excited to try it out. Was it the worst food ever? No, I’ve had worse. Our kung pao chicken tasted on the«funky side» and even though the menu said the dish included water chestnuts, there were none to be in had on our order(sad face). The broccoli beef was nothing to write home about(writing on Unilocal doesn’t count) and left us with a «eh». And for the record«eh» is not good. We usually would give a place a second chance to redeem itself, but the chicken and beef just didn’t seem all that fresh so from now on we’ll just venture over to Belmont for Chinese.

Please see my review of this«new» restaurant under the old Mango Bay listing. This is the same ownership as Mango Bay, just the name was changed. Should have walked out as soon as we realized that it was the same ownership. This has to be the worst Chinese food we have ever ordered, and unfortunately we had ordered for takeout, so we could not comment and send the food back to the kitchen. I just hope that this shopping center will attract some decent places to eat, It is sad that there is nothing here other than pizza and fast food. At least San Carlos has many wonderful choices.
