Mequite has been CLOSED for many months now. How did someone eat here in January of this year? fake review.

Not sure where to start. Mexquite is FARFAR from quite anything like Mexican food. Trust me, even a hole in the wall place can serve better food than this place. Not only is the food terrible but the service staff is inept and indifferent. I came in with four other friends. One of them does not eat beef for religious reasons. She ordered chicken tacos and made sure to let the server know to bring only *chicken*. Mid way into her meal, she pointed me to a piece of beef in the tacos. When we pointed this out, the server started making excuses that the cook must have accidentally dropped it in there and that he had specified chicken. One word — Appalling and another — HUGELIABILITY! I ordered Fish Tacos… waited 20 mins that soon turned into 30 and then an hour. but the fish tacos never came. When I went in to remind the server about the fish tacos he gave me a puzzled look and said that I never ordered them. Maybe he should be paying more attention BECAUSE I totally remember him writing that order on his scratch pad. When we complained to the manager/owner about the beef/chicken fiasco and the fact that I never got my fish tacos, he said sorry(could tell that he did not mean it) and then proceeded to hand us a check. I told him if I ran this place, this would be on the house for making such a big goof-up. But no, he proceeded to give us the check and also shamelessly included an 18% gratuity. PATHETIC! BADFOOD, HORRENDOUSSERVICE. They have no reason to be in business. And what kind of a numb nut names a restaurant«MEXQUITE». Should’ve figured. Do yourself a favor, and avoid this place like the plague. Wish Unilocal allowed for negative rating.

Awesome shrimp salad!!! Yummy! Service is always fast and fabulous! I love the option of being able to eat lunch outside under the sun. :) Check it out. It’s safe. =p

shocked to see any good reviews for this place. came here and should have ran once i realized a) there were no other customers in the whole restaurant, b) there was no bartender behind the bar c) there was no cook in the kitchen. The staff consisted of three DRUNK girls. Our server complained about how old she looked, which prompted us to awkwardly reassure her. We ordered drinks which she made– with no bartending experience, i’m assuming. She then went and made a pitcher of margaritas for her and the other server who then went to the kitchen and made us our meals. This place is awkward and disgusting.

I have read a lot of the reviews for this restaurant and would encourage any of those people who left bad reviews to give it another try. Under new management, this restaurant is awesome! I’ve had lunch here several times now, and LOVE the food. And, I agree with another reviewer — the very cordial waitress — «Alma» — really helps make it an enjoyable dining experience. Good service with a smile definitely makes the food taste better, right? I can’t decide which of the three salsas they serve with their chips is my favorite — they’re all so good! And my favorite meal so far is the Fajita Quesadilla with Steak and Chicken. Today, I got to try their«Flan» dessert which was truly awesome! I am glad I found this place. I’ll be coming here regularly for lunch(and maybe someday dinner!)

Pastorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Tacos are no longer here!!! management changed! I’m soo sad! They changed management and I ordered a Baby Burrito. That baby burrito was MASSIVE! I still give this place 4-stars. Jose is a great server, be sure to ask him for the special!(shot of don julio and a beer of dos equis!)

Awful. I always clean my plate and this was simply rank. The only thing worse than the inedible food, was that the service staff knew it and was clearly indifferent.

I am a fan of this place and have been since coming to eat and enjoy happy hour over the past couple years. They make a delicious Cadillac margarita when you need a cool refreshing drink . We regularly enjoy the molcajete which is great if you enjoy a little spice and peppers to make your own tacos. It is a great item to share for those with smaller appetites or one person who wants leftovers. The combination dinner plate is another god choice so you can try different menu sections. On my last visit I had the chile relleno and it was cheesy egg magic! I am not sure when some of the service complaints are taking place because you can never predict the wait when it is a packed house. We have always found the service attentive and they don’t hassle you with constant check-ins much so if you need something we usually just flag a server down without a problem.

I went to Mexquite on 10÷16÷11 and I found that this Restaurant has a new administration. They’re trying very hard to improved service and food quality. My Tortilla Soup was excellent and my Wife Carne Asada Combination platter was delicious. Mexquite Margaritas are very good. Kudos for New Chef Fernando. I’ll be back soon with my family and friends. See you there. Martha & Renato.

I’ve been a regular customer for the last 4 – 5 years. Basically ever since they opened. Earlier this year, my husband and I decided to stop going all together because the service had become HORRIBLE and the food was heading down hill. And by horrible service, I mean horrible. Worst restaurant service I’ve ever experienced. However, last night passing by heading to City Pub, we decided to give it another shot when we noticed that all the servers were new faces. And I’m so glad we did. The good service is back! I would give them 4 stars, but I’m nervous this was a one-off chance. We’ll be trying again, maybe on a weekend to see if they can be consistent in their revamp. If anyone at Mexquite reads these reviews: PLEASEPLEASEPLEASESTOPHIRINGTHEHORRIBLEBANDTHATPLAYSONTHEWEEKENDS. They ruin the atmosphere and are horrible musicians. If we go on the weekend and the drinks are good, service is excellent, food is delicious and there is NO band, I’ll give you 5 stars. Deal?

3.5 Stars, For a Friday evening, I was happy with the service and food. We ordered a small meal: Mexican salad and pork taco. 2 big screens, full L-shaped bar, indoor and outdoor seating. Live band was enjoyable too!

Mexquite was bad enough to induce me to write my first review. 1.5 stars. Not a chance I’ll be back. I should have known by the name(what kind of corporate numbnuts came up with that?) but we were too hungry and City Pub was full. Found a table outside because we brought the pup along. They cleaned off the previous patrons leavings in a reasonable time. Server was nice and attentive but forgetful but props for the big ceramic water bowl for the dog(on the second request). The ceviche was decent but a bit too much hot pepper. Chips were OK. The avo/tomatillo salsa was good but too spicy for my companion. I ordered the carnitas and must agree with Ed T. It was fatty and awful. It was cut into unnatural cubes, at least 1⁄3 of the cubes were mostly fat and inedible. The sauce was bland. My date’s combo plate of chicken chimichanga and beef enchilada was only slightly better. She only ate about half, maybe less. There was a very loud group sitting next to us so the atmosphere was not great either.

Though the place looked good from driving past it, I got a weird feeling seeing that most people were choosing to eat at the neighbouring restaurants, while this one had most open tables. Oh well, the decision was made and we stayed. The first disappointment was when they said they did not use freshly squeezed juice for Margarita, only bottled margarita mix. I would understand this in a restaurant that did not try to make a big deal out of the tequilas they serve, but seriously? You would spoil a good tequila with a pre-made sweet and sour mix? All our orders came out late and almost all(with the exception of mine) got mixed up! The waiter yelled«Hold on!» to my friend so he would not touch his food because it was destined for the neighboring table. He did not even bother pretending like he’d take it in and have it re-made, rather, the plate was just taken away from my friend and placed in front of bewildered-looking woman at the other table! Same happened to the dish another friend ordered. The food itself was fine. Nothing super-awesome, but I was going to give them three stars for effort. The final drop was when they told us they were closing because they«Ran out of rice and beans.» Seriously? The place had all of 20 customers in the two hours we sat there, and they ran out? Never again.

Not bad. Service was so-so on a quiet Thursday lunch. I had the chicken enchiladas which were corn tortillas stuffed with chicken and topped with a nice amount of sauceand sour cream. Rice and beans were as expected although i was given the option of having black beans instead of the usual pinto beans. My husband had a chicken dish that was HUGE! Salsa bowls are small — ask for extra. Beer is cold — always a good thing.

For some reason, this place is always EMPTY. Even when City Pub and Phở Dong(the neighbors) are packed, this is the lone ranger. Each pitcher of margarita is huge, it’s not too sweet, and pretty light tasting. I got a combo plate with a crab enchilada and a shredded beef flauta. The food looks fresh(better damn well be considering how long it took) but was a bit bland. You need hot sauce. You get a bowl of chips with salsa and guacamole upon arrival. Usually places don’t give guacamole so this is a nice gesture… if only it wasn’t so watery. Maybe it’s a different style of guacamole but at least it had a nice kick.

I haven’t Unilocaled for awhile because I haven’t had extremely great or poor experiences until today. I definitely won’t be returning to Mexquite unless it’s for drinks with friends during their happy hour. When my friend and I came in today around 3 pm, the bartender/waitress was so aloof. I always expect at least a hello upon entering, but she just continued to text on her phone as she walked to get menus. I ordered Arroz con Pollo with corn tortillas and I obviously received flour tortillas when she brought out my food. Albeit I tried one flour tortilla to see if I would be okay with it over the corn, but no. So I told her that I prefered the corn tortillas(like I had ordered). She gave me attitude and said that they were corn(which they were definitely not). Finally she asked the kitchen staff to get corn tortillas. No apologies that she brought out the wrong tortillas. No refills for chips or drinks during our meal. I don’t think she’s usually the waitress there, but so what? I didn’t have a good experience and will probably go for the mexican restaurant across the way next time.

I thought it was impossible to make *bad* Mexican food. Until tonight. This place has earned my first one star rating. Well deserved!

3 stars folks let me just say on a nice day in Redwood City sitting outside enjoying the sun and having brunch is always a perfect setting to have some good eat with friends or family the waitress we had that day was exceptional I give her a better then average grade for service the food was just ok the ceviche was excellent everything else was just average, I had the shrimp quesidilla which was in some sort of orange sauce, it has lil oily shrimp kinda tasted like the frozen kind you can pick up at Lucky’s or Safeway, the wife had some seafood special which included chicken, shrimp and crab, skim on the chicken slices maybe 5 or 6 bits of shrimp cut up and crab lil bit of scattered everywhere the Margarita my wife ordered was just on the good side not wow just good refreshing drink for a hot day. i would come back for the ceviche, everything else I could do with out food *** just ok ceviche was a **** price $$ lil pricey for mexican food service *** waitress was off and on ambiance **** outside seating is perfect on a nice day stay in the shade for perfect brunch

Here’s a typical night in Redwood City for me… beers and a pretzel at Gourmet Haus Staudt and then across the street to Mexquite. Sounds like a weird combo, but after a liter of beer, I’m ready to grub down! I’ve been to Mexquite a number of times, and while it’s not an amazing life-altering experience, they are consistently good. For starters, Natalia is always there to greet us with a smile. Most of the time she’s our waitress, but recently they have an apprentice in training. She’s okay, but not as good as Natalia. We always sit outside and it’s a nice experience. You get to people watch and Broadway doesn’t get so busy that it detracts from the meal. On the food side, there’s some great stuff to talk about. I love chowing down on their chips and salsa. Especially their green avocado-tomatillo salsa… it’s the bomb. They keep this stuff coming… After eating here a few times, I think I’ve figured out the greatest bang for your buck and your stomach. Their combo plates are really good and are heaped with food. I usually get three items, with a burrito, flauta, and chimichanga. The chimichanga is really good. And it all comes with rice and beans and lettuce. This will fill you up! The drinks are pretty good here as well; their Broadway margarita is my fave. The owner is really nice and has come by a couple of times and given us some free drinks to try. It’s a nice touch. Sure, it doesn’t hurt that Mexquite is right across the street from the beer garden, but I’m happy it is. I’ll see you soon!

Came here for lunch. Tamale soup was not good. Tastes like made it with Campbells tomato soup. Sopes were good though. Too expensive for quality of the food. I’m guessing this is a better bar than it is a lunch locale, but I haven’t been there except for lunch so…
