We enjoyed this relaxed Japanese restaurant. Its lunch specials run until 2.30pm and are pretty good value with plenty of choice from the good stuff on the regular. The family got sashimi, curry, yaki udon, plus some starters and entrees. My curry was the spiciest sauce I’ve ever had in a Japanese restaurant, but I ate all the katsu chicken cutlet. Service was good and always informed us of any market price changes to the fresh fish.

Great food, good selection of sake, great ambience and good service. This place is a great one for a quick sushi and sake fix, they have pretty good menu for Seattle and we love to drop by for dinner. Everything is fresh and the rolls are great! The sake is pretty good and they have promotions once in a while.

There are three restrooms in this place. I’ll keep my 1 star until they install a baby station there. They are inexpensive. And this is 2016.

Great sushi, great service, great value. I highly recommend. My favorite restaurant in Redmond and my only 5 star review in 7 years.

This place has not disappointed me yet. The salmon sashimi is fire and many of the rolls I’ve tried so far have been fresh and tasty. The service at times can be a bit weird and abrupt but as long as the food is good we’ll keep coming.

My family and I came to this restaurant for the first time and immediately we could tell we were going to have a problem. I don’t enjoy complaining about the little things but since 90% of the restaurants out there have adopted these practices we’ve come to expect certain things. First of all I want to say the food wasn’t bad at all but not exactly worth the price we paid for it. We had the salmon dinner(sashimi/nigiri), caterpillar roll, and the steak teriyaki dinner asked for it medium rare. First and biggest complaint was the service. Didn’t feel the love. Other places the hostess and wait staff will smile wether they want to or not. It’s part of the atmosphere people, ITWORKS!!! Follow up from a manager or the waitress is always appreciated to amend the dishes or address any issues there might be right away(hint: this helps repeat customers). Since we sat down no one has come by except to take our order, which took forever by the way, and to deliver our food which even then she seemed to be pissed off at life while doing it for some reason. Second the food is overpriced. Not by a lot but it is definitely cheaper at other sushi places prepared to either the same standards or better for a lower price. There’s a place out in Duvall called«Best teriyaki and Sushi» that’s prepared better and much cheaper and its fresher. The salmon dinner while prepared well didn’t taste fresh. The teriyaki was over cooked to about medium to medium well. True lovers of beef know that there is a HUGE difference between medium rare and medium. The caterpillar roll was for some reason spicy… How does that make any sense? Nowhere in the description did it say the roll would be spicy or had any ingredients that were spicy. Unless they discovered a new kind of «spicy avocado» there’s no reason why the roll should have been spicy. Lastly I just want to close with this, the only reason why we came here was because this place had good reviews on Unilocal,it was close, and it seemed reasonably priced when I saw the reviews and menu but the quality wasn’t there for the price, and for God’s sake smile people!!! If you act like you don’t want to work there you think people will want to eat there?!? The only reason we actually ate the food was because we were hungry, actually I didn’t really eat because the amount of food was definitely reduced where I could go to whole foods or QFC and ONEROLL will fill me up here it will take at least three. Maybe we were profiled because we didn’t dress up to go eat? I don’t know but I’ll say this, I usually tip minimum 15% but I have absolutely NOPROBLEM stiffing this place. P. S. They did come by again, to deliver the check after they saw our empty plates.

85 degrees outside & this place has windows all closed like a concentration camps lol ! I go on in & I see its same owner as Kirkland Juanita. No special greeting. Everything was ok but one of the item came after everything else was finished & it was a salad appetizer. Communication from wait staff is BAD. Bus boy & water /tea lady & man super attentive. Bathroom could use few tables and things. It doesn’t have to be so empty. Their menu is falling apart as in dirty & badly organized & can’t find anything. Even waiters cannot find anything on it including miso soup, lol! He said it’s not in the menu wahaha! Value 4 star, service 2 star. Atmosphere 1. Weird place but sushi is decent.

Some great sushi options. I got the: –Salmon skin roll x2 –Rainbow roll –Oto roll All fresh and good quality. Of these, the salmon skin was the best, so we ordered a 2nd round. This isn’t my favorite sushi place on the East side, but it’s overall a good stop.

The reason I came into the restaurant was that I was looking for sushi on the Eastside without having to drive to Seattle. I liked the name a lot too; it spoke to me somehow. I’ve been to the restaurant 4 times now. My first experience there was the best. Subsequent ones have been substandard especially in terms of consistency of service and overall restaurant policies but also in terms of food quality. I asked for the sashimi set without farmed fish. They did not have this as an item on the menu and asked me to order all the fish a la carte. This would have resulted in huge portions at a price that would have been spendy for a single meal ~ $ 30. I really am into eating healthy food and care about what I put into my body. Restaurants should provide reasonable options for this. I was disappointed they could not accommodate my request. On one of my visits the sushi chef did accommodate. I was grateful. I was up-charged $ 6 from $ 12, basically the cost of the 5 selection sashimi but served only 3 types. This was fine given my request. My final visit I was with my friend Alex and because we were talking animatedly, I knocked over my glass of wine(La Crema chardonnay) in medias res(it was half full). They gladly cleaned it up and asked if I wanted another. I assumed it would replace the glass that I spilled. Ultimately, we were charged for 2 glasses of wine with a 10% discount on one of the glasses. This has never happened to me at any restaurant throughout my dining-out history. I’m not in the habit of spilling drinks but still the charge came off as stingy and underhanded because they did not mention to me at the time of ordering the second that I would be charged for the split glass. Momiji in Capital Hill and Mashiko’s in West Seattle are more nuanced sushi establishments with impeccable service without a need to nickel and dime their customers. They serve sustainable sushi and accommodate my request for wild salmon with minimal fuss and upcharge. Also their sushi rice tastes much better. I would say that I like the miso soup at Oto better than other places. It’s unfortunate that my experiences have been lesser than. I’m disappointed. I will be driving to Seattle, going to Whole Foods or making sushi at home.

I write this after my third and likely final visit to Oto. This evening I ordered the beef sukiyaki dinner and to say it was a disappointment would be generous. The beef was overcooked, tough, and beyond bland. It tasted like someone had put about a ¼ cup of margarine on top — hard to fathom I know. And though it appears on the menu at $ 10.50, they charged me $ 16.95! This place changes hands frequently and I dare say another change is due.

I come here pretty often for the happy hour menu and their lunch menu. Price is more than reasonable and all the seafood are fresh. Atmosphere is very warm and etc. Cheers!

Best place in Redmond for sushi and Japanese meals. Good quality fish and creative rolls. Pretty tasty standard Japanese meals: grilled cheek, udon, pork katsu. Interior lined with wood panels. Warm and inviting. Great place for group and to spend an afternoon. Pricing for each meal will be between $ 13 – 20. Parking is sometimes a trouble in smaller strip mall.

Came in today and tried it for the first time and had a wonderful experience. The decoration is a lot of wood and very good, quiet environment. We were present pleasantly surprised to get free edamame at the start of the meal and free miso soup for every two rolls we ordered from the happy hour menu. and the prices were not bad at all and tasted very very good. I would highly recommend the seared salmon roll. Will return. Make sure to check In on Facebook to get 10% off

FOOD– WOW! Talk about refreshing and delicious. The sushi here is fresh! Attention to detail is obvious. Dragon roll, spicy tuna, and deep fried Gyoza are a must have! I go to Umi and Wasabi quite a bit, this spot is just as good and cheaper. Interior is more traditional, but that’s expected for Redmond. SERVICE– Good service, staff is very nice. 4 sushi chefs on a Saturday night = ultra fast service! LOCATION– Tucked away in Redmond, but plenty of parking. Interior is average but it’s clean. PRICE– Not cheap, but its a good value! Especially considering the quality.

I came here to meet a friend that I’d met online, sort of a blind date for girlfriends. She said this was one of her favorite spots so we agreed to meet here. It’s a very small place and parking was impossible unless you park in the back alley, which looks a bit shady, but luckily they have an entrance that way. I had an amazing time talking with her, and it’s a good thing too, because the wait time for our drinks and food was nothing, NOTHING, short of appalling. We had to remind the waiter twice that we hadn’t received our drinks(simple lemonade and tea) and that was after being at the table about 25 – 35 minutes. Our miso soups came quickly after that but then I think the sushi rolls also took quite a while. It made no sense, the restaurant wasn’t packed. I’m not sure if our waiter was just very slow or what happened. Like I said, we were both chatting so much we didn’t bother to stop the waiter and say anything about the ridiculous wait time, but it was painfully obvious how bad it was. Other than that the sushi was fairly good, but nothing to write home about. They have a very large selection of rolls so maybe we just didn’t order their ‘wowzers’. I’d rather not come back, simply because sushi and tea should be the quickest, fresh meal you can get, and this was just the opposite.

We came on Friday for dinner. It took about 10 – 15 minutes to get seated. They have a great selection of fish. We ordered sashimi omakase, the Jonathan bowl(chirashi), and a dragon roll. Sashimi omakase is incredible. The fish melts in your mouth literally. The uni is amazing! Jonathan bowl is a little bit small portion for $ 35, but we suppose scallop, uni, and ikura are usually pricey anyways. Dragon roll is good as well(eel done correctly) Definitely get the omakase! So goooodddd

Order to go — #19(Oto roll) & Unagi Roll *Cool promo: 10% off for check — in First impression: nice décor, very busy for a week day(good sign) I have been here a couple times before last year. A minute from home making it convenient. Last time I came I was not thrilled by the service. Pretty cut & dry. That hasn’t changed. I came once for a HH or lunch special & was disappointed, it was for hot food & sushi Togo & they put my RAWSUSHI under(which is worse) my hot teriyaki(which I remember wasn’t reasonable value for the price) this isn’t the place for that teriyaki. Another time to go; late night sushi run & it was great ! They get pricey with the adding of spicy mayo which is kind of overkill. $ 1 or more extra ! Wait Time was a but crucial: 20min + Overall good sushi. Can’t be mad at that. I will soon come to sit down & hopefully get a better perception of their customer service :) *positive vibes* Sushi was fresh & tasty even as take out; satisfied

Unilocal helped me find this place when i was out in Bellevue for a business trip. The place was almost full for a monday night. I started with with the chicken karaage appetizer that went well with the plum sauce. I then tried the salmon nigiri and tuna sashimi. Both were excellent and paired well with the house hot sake. Overall a good find and I will visit again

I’ve been to Oto twice for lunch so far, and both times have been good experiences. The customer service is great here! The staff is extremely attentive — our waitress checked back with us more than three times, which is usually pretty rare. The sushi chefs are knowledgeable about all the menu items and also personable. One of them genuinely answered a woman’s questions about the sushi equipment and procedures instead of just giving a simple reply. This customer was very interested in sushi-making methods and the chef seemed happy to discuss. A basket of edamame is complementary, and the food is prepared quickly! **3 Combo Lunch Bento — Chicken Teriyaki, California Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll — served with salad, soup and rice. The food tastes delicious — I enjoyed the teriyaki as the sauce has a nice balance between salty and sweet. The sushi has a thinner layer of rice and more fillings than other restaurants which is a plus. However, the pieces are fairly small. The serving size of the bento was enough for me, but it may not be filling enough for other hungry adults.

We had a large group that came in for lunch and we were seated promptly. I had the lunch combo with a curry katsu and tuna roll. I’m not a huge fan of the fact that the lunch roll is a mere 4 pieces of sushi, but the combo does also come with an entrée, rice, soup, salad and a little orange slice. The katsu pork was well done and not chewy at all, although I think the curry sauce had made the breading a bit soggy by the time it came out. The roll was tasty, and the fish was fresh. Service was pretty good, although I think the size our group frazzled the servers a bit. At one point half the table had tea, and the other half had water. It was as if the server brought over tea and started serving at one end of the table, and then spaced when they went to get a refill and brought waters instead. No harm done though, and they did bring out other drinks for everyone else. Overall, their lunch deals are pretty decently priced, coming to a bit over $ 10 with tax and tip. I also like that there are different options to pick from, so you can really mix and match your own rolls and entrees. That said, I still would like more sushi roll with my lunch, as I’m a pretty small person and I was still a bit hungry when I left. There’s parking out the front, but it can get busy.
