O’Ryan Marine

I’m a rookie boat owner that bought my first boat last Summer from a friend. I knew the boat was is excellent condition for it’s age, but needed a little maintenance work. I ended up finding O’Ryan Marine on Google and then researched reviews on Unilocal before setting up an appointment to bring in my boat. I couldn’t be more satisfied with the experience I had with Ryan and his team. Literally everything I had read in the Unilocal reviews was true: 1) «They have an attention to detail and a genuine interest in your boat,» 2) «Ryan even spent the extra time to show me a few DIY maintenance tips and tricks when I picked my boat up,» and 3) «My experience with O’Ryan is that they are highly competent and trustworthy.»

I’ve used these guys a few times in the past, but the last experience with them really made me doubt if I’ll use them again. When my boat lift failed over the summer I called them first and Ryan came out to look at the lift to make sure it wasn’t fixable. It was well and truly dead so we asked him to find out how much it would cost to have a new one installed. My recollection is that he called back with a quote and my reaction was something like, wow, that’s expensive, ok whatever. Shortly after, my husband got a tip from a neighbor and found another installer who could do the job for 25% less.
I called Ryan to tell him that we were going to go with the other guy and he was quite rude, saying he had already ordered the lift and that I would have to pay for a service call for his inspection. Fair enough. A few weeks later I got a voice message asking why I hadn’t paid my bill so I called back and said I hadn’t received an invoice. An invoice was emailed to me for over $ 200. Wow. He was at our dock for maybe 10 minutes tops. Nice work if you can get it I guess.
So, a couple things. First the rudeness. Second, we hadn’t signed a contract for the lift, nor had I received any kind of a bid in writing. I get signed bids from contractors to do work for far less than the $ 10K plus he had quoted me verbally. Third, over $ 200 for a «service call» where nothing is serviced seems really outrageous.

Just had O’Ryan come out and sevice our boat lift. He had two very nice guys with 20 years of experience come out and they correctly diagnosed the problem, fitted what they could and then said they would come back with a part next week and finish up. This was the second person to come out. The first one from another company associated with the lift, missed the problem, recommended replacing the wrong part, and didn’t even get into the water to see what really was going on. Thanks to Ryan at O’Ryan, he had his guys come out quickly and fix the lift correctly.

Spoke with Ryan today about my Sunstream Lift. I received Nordstrom+++ service and great tech information. I am a lifetime boater who has dealt with the realities /​costs of owning these floating money pits others call boats. My experience with O’Ryan is that they are highly competent and trustworthy.

This place has their act together unlike any boat shop I’ve ever been to… or even car repair shops, for that matter. O’Ryan is in a class all its own — there simply isn’t a close 2^nd place for OMC-​certified boat shops in the area.
After going everywhere from Everett to Issaquah trying to find a reliable and knowledgeable shop that can fix some nagging issues on my ski boat, I gave O’Ryan a call and spoke with Ryan, who instantly began diagnosing my boat’s problem over the phone, asking all the questions that no other shop had ever bothered to ask. Ryan has unparalleled understanding of the outdrives he services and a genuine interest in understanding the issues at play before ever turning a wrench — he’s not interested in racking up hours and hours of diagnosis time, which saved me some serious money.
Ryan even spent the extra time to show me a few DIY maintenance tips and tricks when I picked my boat up, which blew me away since the shop was closed for the day by this time.
