I love the comic stop! They have an awesome selection and Some rare comics for cheap. They even have the one comic I look for — sorry no names– and the only downside is the customer service. Other than that-GREAT!

There’s a general awkwardness to the Comic Stop. The shop owner doesn’t greet you when you walk in(which makes for a very poor first impression). He just watches you, but you’re not sure if he’s looking at you or not because you’re too uncomfortable to turn around. It gives you the feeling that you’re stealing and makes you want to get out. but being stared at makes you afraid to leave. it’s not a pleasant atmosphere. The selection is satisfying. They’ve got the traditional fare but also a huge number of «indie» comics — the ones that don’t star superheroes, and with more experimental cover art.(Unfortunately, I didn’t find any with truly unusual graphical styles within). It’s refreshing to see some alternative comics, though. They’ve also got some other merchandise, like board games, graphic novels, and manga. Thankfully these wares extend beyond the strictly comic universe to franchises like Doctor Who and World of Warcraft, as well as general geeky items. I picked up «God is Disappointed in You,» a witty interpretation of the Bible. The facilities are clean and they’ve got a good assortment of products, and better service would make this a five.

They have some great stuff, but zero customer service. Every time I’ve been in there, it’s been an awkward silence. They just tend to watch you, or generally not seem to notice or care. On one occasion, I found a collectible card in the case I was interested in and, curious about the price, I asked the young man sitting at the front desk. I couldn’t see his face, as he never lifted it from his book. I asked how much the card was, and he responded with«whatever it is on e-bay.» I replied sarcastically with«What, 500 dollars?» already knowing the average price of the card(around 200 dollars). He told me «yeah that’s about right.» I was floored. Way to sell your merchandise and attract customers there, buddy.

People who shop at the Comic Stop are said to be 75% sexier, but we can’t survey them because they’re too busy on hot dates to answer questions. The staff is helpful and cool in a wonderfully nerdy way. The store is spacious, well-lit, clean and has space to play games. It is really a symbol of Seattle: Nerdy, Creative, Well-Read, and Mostly Bearded.

The Comic Stop at the Redmond Town Center has found a new suite to call home. This new location does wonders for this business; more light, more space, and an overall chance to display their comics and comic related merchandise. The old location felt cramped and closed in while this location allows people shopping the ability to actually step back and see the displays. Their prices are still the same and at times leaning on the pricey side for the knick knack items and they still don’t offer any back stock of older issues other than the ones hiding on the rack behind the current issue(a practice I don’t mind too much since these are never marked up). So it’s still a decent place to stay current on your comic collection while seeing what’s new for the comic themed merchandise.
