Was craving sushi tonight and didn’t want to hit up the regular spots, was hoping to be one of those«oh let’s try this random sushi place and hope it’s really good» nights but it wasn’t. I don’t know if it was just a off night for the sushi chef or what but my spicy tuna roll was not very appealing at all or any other roll that involved tuna for that matter. At first look when our roll came to the table immediately I was thinking«what the hell is this, this isn’t tuna», let me just be clear on this I’m a tuna lover and I haven’t ever seen a tuna roll that looked like this before. Besides the horrible spicy tuna roll & the popcorn roll the service is great and servers are beyond nice and that’s the only reason I gave 2 stars.

Just finished an Omakase evening with Kimo. Authentic preparation and exquisite presentation. Japanese eel was only one of the highlights. If you want a true sushi master preparing your meal, Kimo is a rare treat in the IE.

Don’t know how this place has 4 stars. Was encouraged by previous reviews but walked in to a «fishy» smell which is never good for a sushi place. Rolls were very small and the fish was low quality and rubbery. The crunchy spicy tuna roll was way too sweet. The ramen was mostly bean sprouts, had no flavor, and badly needed salt. Overall, bland at best and bad at worst. And to top it off I had a stomachache all night and into the next day. Avoid this place at all costs.

Absolutely loved the warm welcome and overall service we received here. Miso soup tasted bland and rolls didn’t sit well with me. The atmosphere is really nice and I can see myself giving this place another shot in the future.

You know it’s going to be a good experience when you are greeted by actual Japanese people who seem as though they truly want you to have a good experience. I ordered the Tonkatsu dinner. The meat was moist and tender and the batter was crispy yet not oily, as good Tonkatsu should be. In fact, it reminded me of the many Tonkatsu I ate when I was back in Taiwan. We also ordered the Oyaku Ju, which again, brought me back to Asia. The eggs were silky. The meat was tender. The rice was cooked just right. Our meal was prepared well, and we enjoyed our overall experience. Also, this place is not a $$$ restaurant. If anything, it is a $$ restaurant. Prices were reasonable, and you leave satisfied.

Not a fan of Kimo Sushi. Walked into a fishy smell in the restaurant. The Fish didn’t look fresh and it had way too much wasabi… Much more than i have ever had so suspected it was to hide tastes. I would not recommend and would not return.

Loved this place! Freshest fish, most authentic in the IE. The sushi chef was great, very helpful in selecting what we would order. Friendly staff, peaceful décor. Overall nice dining experience.

Excellent food with a flair of authenticity. Clearly the best in the immediate area. It is really hard to find a true Japanese restaurant in these parts of the IE but we will certainly be back for more, again and again!!!

If you are looking for all you can eat rolls this is NOT the place. If you want to put yourself in the hands of an expert sushi chef and love traditional sushi this is the only place for 100 miles. Let him suggest cold sake to match with your food. I have eaten here for ten years and it is still amazing what Kimo comes up with. Must try his tamago, second to none.

Disclaimer: I am a person who’s Hawaii born and raised, was spoiled by fresh fish all year round, and have had the opportunity to taste authentic sushi in Japan. Needless to say, my standards for sushi are borderline sushi snob. However, I am also a realist and know that I am living in the IE now, and so I’ve had to significantly lower my standards. I’ve tried many sushi places all over the IE in the 5 years I’ve lived here, including AYCE and some that were not: Redlands: Ocean Blue on Orange street(now Sushi Zutto) Hello Sushi Niko Niko Sushi Super Sushi San Bernardino: Miyagi Sushi Corona: Sushi Asahi Riverside: Sushi Asahi Rancho Cucamonga: Sushi One Spot Sake 2 Me Sushi Martini Omokase Kula Revolving Sushi Bar This place is the first place I’ve visited that made me feel like I was ALMOST transported back to Japan: Japanese sushi chef? Check Japanese workers? Check Omokase option? Check Not AYCE? Check. Any respectable sushi restaurant will not serve AYCE; the quality of the fish would just not be up to par Quiet atmosphere, and not blaring crap American music like Taylor Swift? CHECK!!! My husband and I came here a while ago while we were still dating back in 2012, but I don’t really remember that meal. I decided to give them a second chance, and so we both got the Omokase(chef’s choice) sushi with 10 pieces each. Each piece tasted delicious! The toro, uni, and salmon were my favorites. I loved the fact that the chef came to our table and explained each piece of sushi to us(typical Japanese sushi culture). They also served us with lobster flavored miso soup to start, and I haven’t had that since I lived in Hawaii. It reminded me of this place in Honolulu called Mitch’s fish market(If you’ve been to Hawaii, go there!). The only reason it’s 4 stars is because 5 means«Woohoo! As good as it gets!» and I’ve just simply had better sushi in the past. However, I will say that this place is the closest to authentic that you will get to in the IE.

My husband and I visit every so often, because their prices are pretty high here; however, if you want authentic sushi(and french cuisine) you can’t beat Kimo’s! The last time we were in, about 2 weeks ago, my husband ordered a whole fish(can’t remember the name) which was sashimi’d and served cold with the entire carcass — very classy presentation. When we finished the sashimi, they offered to fry the carcass which, while overdone, was still very tasty. Highly recommended if you want to try something authentic and different from the other local places. Put yourself in Kimo’s hands and you will NEVER be dissatisfied. We always get a special appetizer(free of charge) and have, on occasion, even tried some of his signature french dishes. So amazing!

Oh seems like Sushi Kimo has been around forever on this location in Redlands. It is a family owned and operated eatery, the kind I will gladly support over the chained restaurants any time. There are many sushi houses in Redlands but this one has my heart. The food is good. The quality is fresh and much better than the others. Cost wise it is a bit more than the others but I don’t mind paying for quality sushi and sashimi. The selection is pretty impeccable as well.

Love, love, love their fresh soba! I believe it’s made in house(not certain though) but it’s the best! My little one is always so ecstatic to order natto maki and the chef finds it pretty humorous how much his tiny tummy can hold. Every time we are in town, we make a stop.

Excellent and favorite Sushi restaurant in Redlands. It can be a bit pricey though but you get what you paid for. It’s made close to how it tastes in Japan as I was stationed there in the military for 1 year. Would highly recommend it and is a great, local friendly place to grab some Japanese style cuisine. Cheers!

This is the best sushi place I have found in the greater San Bernardino area. I came here with a group of 7 coworkers on a Tuesday night and our experience was great. This place is pretty authentic, and certainly focuses on the quality of food instead of just a trendy atmosphere like many sushi places. The main chef is an older Japanese man who obviously takes great pride in his work. We ordered $ 500+ worth of sushi and everything I tried was excellent. The Yellowtail and Tuna sashimi was great but the Halibut was literally incredible here. The chef expertly prepared the halibut with soy sauce, scallions and other ingredients and it blew us away. We ordered 2 more immediately after. The toro(Otoro, aka fatty tuna) sushi nigiri was also incredible, albeit a little spendt at market price. Rolls were good, as were all the other rolls/nigiri we tried. Just a heads up, the wine list was a little sketchy, with the menu simply reading«wine bottle» for $ 18. It ended up being a low end bottle, which was a bit of a disappointment considering how good the food was. Don’t let the strip mall location or the unremarkable interior fool you. This place is a gem and the chef is great.

Having traveled to most of the major cities on this planet, I can safely say that Chef knows his fish. He is especially interested & adept at the«White» fishes. Anything not fatty or red he goes for. He hates making rolls. Dont even ask if you are at the bar. He is also excellent at Shellfish. Always has Shigoku-one of the newest varieties farmed out there(introduced in 09). Delicious tumbled oyster. His treatment of fish is mostly traditional and he does some small«Izakaya-type» dishes. They are generally vegetables done in fried formats. I love them. I save myself to come here then go to Sushi Miguel for my dirty«Cali» Sushi.

So my coworker and I needed some food and drink after a long day at the office. She suggested we go to Niko Niko Sushi in Redlands but when we got there, there was a 45 minute wait time. Fortunately, I relied on my fellow« Unilocalers!» to find a solution, and boy, they didn’t disappoint! If you’re driving speed limit on Redlands Boulevard, you’ll certainly miss this little gem. It’s situated at the far end of a small strip mall on Redlands Boulevard and Kendall Street. We were greeted happily and seated immediately. The sushi chef suggested that try the«omakase sushi»(roughly translated to «I’ll leave it to you sushi»). Basically, the sushi chef would choose what to present to us for eating. As we agreed to eat whatever he prepared for us, he winked and told us «You’re going to get the best sushi». He wasn’t kidding. To start, we were provided with a deep fried octopus crispy salad. It was an amazing way to wake up your palate. A sweet sauce was drizzled over deep fried octopus and crunchy little bits of… stuff. Just when we were getting over how good it was, they brought out half of a HUGE deep fried shrimp(cut down the middle, long ways). The shrimp was served complete with short antenna, chela, pereiopods, long antenna, rostrum and carapce and all innards(Ok, Ok, that’s enough education about the anatomy of a shrimp). The shrimp was also, very, very good. The Omakase sushi is 10 pieces of the chef’s choice for $ 35.00. Not cheap, but you will get some of the tastiest morsels from the sea if you go this route. I’m talking Sweet Shrimp sushi of a size and texture you’ve never experienced(big, slightly solid but also buttery and gelatinous). The salmon and tuna were so tender and buttery(ditto for the yellow tail). Since we shared the Omakase plate, my coworker and I decided to do a few spicy tuna hand rolls. No disrespect to all the other great sushi I ate here, but this was the BEST spicy tuna roll I’ve ever had in my life(and lemme tell you, I’ve been all over the place eating spicy tuna rolls). Odd but cool tidbit: The bathrooms are scented with wasabi. I don’t know why I thought this was the coolest thing. I definitely suggest you come to Sushi Kimo for your next sushi fix. If Niko Niko is packed, do yourself a favor and drive a mile and a bit down the road to treat yourself to something equally good(if not better).

Hands down, the finest Japanese restaurant in the Inland Empire. I’ve been coming here since 2001 and have never left disappointed. To start, the ambience is unlike any other sushi establishment in the area. That is, you won’t come in to find a ton of TV screens blasting sports, nor will you be forced to listen to loud and poorly written pop music. Instead, patrons dine in a calm and zen-like atmosphere with a lot of wonderful artwork to enjoy and Japanese music to listen to. As for the traditional staples of Japanese cuisine, from the salad to the green tea to the miso soup, everything is top notch and above any other place I’ve been to in the Inland Empire. Beyond that, the fish is the freshest and of highest quality in Redlands(aside from Mu). The people that have left negative reviews of this place must either be 1) ignorant and unaware of what authentic Japanese food is, or 2) friends of other sushi establishments in the vicinity attempting to make this place and its owner look bad. Those in the first category should just stick to going to All You Can Eat places. And those in the second category should also do the same. Namaste.

I absolutely love this Japanese restaurant although the bill is always a bit high. This restaurant is the only restaurant where you will find authentic Japanese food in the IE. And you know that the food coming out is going to be good when you see the owner of the store is actually Japanese and the chef! :-) SERVICE: Service is always outstanding at this place. They’re very polite and friendly. Whenever I’ve had questions they would answer to the best of their ability. They are attentive to your needs and are quick to respond. FOOD: I must admit that portions here aren’t very big. You must order more than one dish to be full and if you have a bottomless stomach, you might not like this place. But the quality and taste of the food never fails to impress me. INTERIOR&DECOR: Very spacious and clean. They have a sushi bar and a few regular tables.
