Safeway

The primary reason for my review is because of the excellent service I have consistently received in the deli department for the past 6+ times I have been coming to here. Brenda, Michelle and Lindsay always greet the customers with a smile and are just the sweetest ladies. The Safeway in Chico has grumpy ladies working there so it is nice to come here and experience a positive difference in the staff (there is one more woman with blonde hair… I can’t seem to remember her name.).
I will say that Safeway is with in my top 3 places to get a sandwich from… and I am very picky when it comes to good quality sandwiches! The sandwiches have been the same at every Safeway I’ve been to, all great! The pesto spread is delicious and so is the chipotle and olive spread/​tapenade.
The only downside to my review is that this location, although conveniently close to my work, has a crappy location. Its right on the edge of down town with lots of homeless people and other weirdos. It’s a shame that they require security inside and outside of the building.

I’ve often shopped at this location, but like others have said, the transients are intimidating. I decided to stop by recently and noticed the security guards on duty. They were present in the store & the parking lot. As I left the store, I was approached very discreetly for a handout… I of course told him no and once he left, I caught the eye of the SG and he was there quickly and walked him off the lot.
Foods are fresh, prices are acceptable, not Winco prices, but quality is important to me.

I have shopped at your store for years and purchased a good majority of my groceries from there. The last two times I have been at the store I have felt very un-​safe. There are many people wandering thru the parking lot and hanging out by the front door. It has been in daylight both times. There have been security guards there but both times they were together talking and laughing by the front corner of the store and i did not feel they were even concerned what was going on around there. As a single female I will not be back at your store. Safety is a big concern of mine and I do not feel safe in your parking lot even in broad daylight.

I went to the safeway on Pine St. Redding Cal. and for a whole year or more the bakery is out of everything! This is the worst Safeway in the whole California! The store lacks product as MANY TABLES ARE EMPTY. (AlWAYS & NOT THE FIRST TIME EATHER.) I have hear the bakers are so LAZYthe people the store who package have been told by bakery manager if they dont help bake they will not have anything to package! I thought the bakers belong to a union? Then why are Non-​Union packagers allowed to help bake. The store manager head is up her a _​_​.Nobody in Safeway cares. I have been so dissapointed I have stopped going in for almost a month since April 2013. The only reason I was shopping there is because it is close to where I live. Now I gladly pay more for gas to shop where I have more to choose from. Besides Groceries I do like the bread and bakery prouducts but this store sucks when you cant get whats not there. Other Safeways are much better and I know from the others what I was used to having. The store is also unclean and the street bums bother you when you go to walk in. The Police had to drag a passed-​out woman from the front door 3 weeks ago! Beware of this poor runned store. a discrace to be called Safeway but they never learn form anybody who says anything, they dont do anything about it. The manager does not give a rat’s a _​_​. A BAD STORE.

Ive been shopping here for quite awhile. Nice deals & always friendly service but they need to do something about the pan handlers in the parking lot.

I’ve always liked Safeway stores but this one is a little sketchy. There are always shady characters around and panhandlers. I don’t know why they choose to hang out there. Isn’t the nicest Safeway around but it has a decent selection of items.

I shop here only when I don’t feel like driving to a further grocery store.
It’s always clean when I go and the employees are always friendly. The outside atmosphere as well as some of the people that hang outside or come inside are a little sketchy. I dont like coming there at night. The prices are kind of steep too which is why I only come there when I have to.

We filled up our tank on regular gasoline from Safeway on July 17, 2011. Our Yukon — which ran perfectly before — began stalling out and running roughly within 10 minutes. Three fuel filters and draining the gas tank revealed LOTS of water in the gasoline and unidentified «crud» all through the gasoline. We brought this to their attention but there was no manager to be found and the clerk seemed rather bored by the situation — even with visual aids. Trust me — it’s only the first shot in this battle.

The two negative factors resulting in my three star rating are cleanliness and prices.
I sometimes like to sit down and enjoy a bite to eat and/​or a beverage, however I find that the tables seem to always need a wipe down, and I only use the restroom now if it’s an emergency. I can’t even begin to describe an incident I had using the restroom one day. I’ll never be the same.
Prices tend to be a little high and finding a two-​fer seems only right in the end, if you get my meaning. ;)
I live close to this branch and often come here out of convenience. I appreciate the selection of organic foods and I find the employees always nice and helpful. But when I need a bigger selection and don’t mind the extra miles, I prefer the Safeway up the road. :)
