I just started working in Red Bank, so I wanted to test out a nice restaurant for dinner during the weekend. My boyfriend and I decided on Red. I ordered the Mahi Mahi special, which came with a side of broccolini. First of all the broccolini was ice cold(I almost felt it was meant to be cold, and had zero taste) The Mahi Mahi was very bland also, no flavor what so ever. I gave this place 2 stars because my boyfriend had the hanger steak and said he enjoyed it, which he’s very easy to please so I wouldn’t go off that. We wanted to eat here and have a few cocktails upstairs because it looked like a cool lounge. The music and people were very odd(all of 3 people in the lounge area) Weird/awkward evening. I know i won’t be going back.

Half bottle wine on Tuesday?! Could you ask for anything better? The food is great and love the staff. We always sit at the bar or high tops and have the best time.

food is ok. service is good. They think they’re a upscale NYC lounge, but then again so does every place in Red Bank. So i can’t really hold that against them. They make great drinks and have a good dessert menu. Their gnocchi is bomb though! Its worth a try. Ill give them another couple of chances. and will update this review once i do!

Service for drinks was horrible. Short staffed and very rude bar staff when approach to inquire after 20 minutes where the drinks were.

The food was very mediocre for the price. Went with 4 people. Ordered a lot of food. Apps, salads, sushi, dinner and dessert. All was not very good. 4 sushi rolls were small and the rice was hard. The cake was dry. AND our waiter was miserable!

We were lucky enough to get a table last weekend as walk-ins off the street. We had a group of 6. They have one of my favorite wines on their menu — Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc at a good price. The server was very nice & attentive, but not overly so which is good. We all enjoyed our dinners and would happily return!

It seems that this place has been suffering from some management problems as of late. While the food is consistently good, my friends have had bad experiences with service, and I had a less-than-spectacular experience myself on that front. Boyfriend and I were having dinner last night(Monday). The restaurant was virtually empty when we arrived. However, the food took a noticeably long time to arrive, and once it did, it took the staff a good 10 minutes to realize we hadn’t been given silverware! However, we had been given chopsticks, which boyfriend and I are exceptionally talented at using. Appetizers and small plates took about a half hour to come out, but one sushi roll took about an hour. Bizarre because the restaurant, again, was basically empty. Also, when we were presented the check, we the bill holder also contained someone else’s check and someone else’s credit card! Alarming to say the least. Other customers were much ruder about the delays, I even heard one woman holler at a waitress«Is dinner coming?!» I have to give a big shoutout to our waitress Nina, who was genuinely trying her best despite the hang-ups, and was extremely polite and hardworking. Overall, food is great, restaurant has a beautiful interior, but there is something seriously wrong on the management side of things… Hope they work it out.

A few days ago we ate at Red and I was disappointed. My Filet Mignon which appeared medium rare as ordered was dry and totally juiceless(and tasteless). Sadly the, «frizzled» onions did nothing to improve the taste and if anything the accompanying«apricot red onion jam sauce» further ruined any semblance of what for me is usually heavenly: savoring a well cooked Filet Mignon. For $ 32, one would expect better. My wife on the other hand totally enjoyed her salmon as did our friend, Phyllis’, her sushi. However Phyllis’ husband, Rich was served a woefully meager portion of Paella, about the size of an appetizer in other places, with truly only a few shell fish and a scant helping of rice. The price for this entre however was not meager! Overall, I’d rate our food«hit or miss» and over priced for what we were served.

Cheese boards and a tapas menu… perfection! We ordered the 3 cheese board and a few different tapas items. All were delicious except the fig one(the figs were mushy and not sweet). Great atmosphere and service. I definitely will be back!

I’m shocked by the 3 star rating! By far one of the best spots in Red Bank! Kim, the bartender is fabulous and makes excellent martinis… I highly recommend the fig or cucumber! Their filet appetizer over creamed spinach and crostini is lip-smacking good! Great sushi and cheese boards and half priced bottles of wine some nights throughout the week! Definitely a favorite!

Did an early seating on New Year’s Eve and sat upstairs in the little loft area. Really liked that atmosphere. We both really enjoyed our entrees and the whole experience. Service was very good. The chef did a wonderful job on the spare ribs with coconut rice/pilaf I had to review on here because so many of the negative reviews are for the club that opens later in the evening and has a very different crowd from the dinner crowd.

There was a guy doing the door with a Britney Spears headset. They were playing awful club music. I met up with my main squeeze here and immediately walked out. I cannot stand places like this and the pretension that comes with it. I guess that is why I live in Cleveland, OH with all of the other broke folk. I should have known to avoid a place that uses the name of a color for the name. Especially a color that evokes fear or panic. At least call it «Burnt Umber» or «Neon Green». Red; give me a break.

Much better options in the area. Apathetic bartender — lackluster mixed drinks. Mix up in appetizer order was ignored. Waitress was either overworked, inattentive, or maybe just inexperienced. Wine service was amateurish at best. Ice bucket and bread request was, oops! She forgot! Hangar steak was very good. Cheesecake was OK — just like Joe’s Diner. This place was better a couple of years ago. Definitely not worthy repeat.

Came here and the place was very crowded. This review is for the upstairs. The vibe is great, but the drinks were not well made. We had shots and a mojito. both were not very good.

Checked in on Unilocal!and received a free drink which the staff had no idea what to do, so they took our phone and walked into the manger’s phone to figure out what to do. Then they got my order wrong, and rather than wait even longer, I just ate the sub-par meal. Waitress wasn’t too concerned about the snafu. For the price, I expect better. There are tons of places in Red Bank, and you need be better than this in order to stand out.

I recently visited Red on a Saturday night with my wife and another couple. We opted for the VIP area for an extra $ 5. Previous to admitting us, the bouncer made a condescending remark about my dinner jacket. Once admitted inside, it was packed like a sardine can. Later, I reported to the crowded bar to order a round of drinks. I patiently waited and waited — eventually catching the bartender’s eye. An attractive blonde stepped beside me, and was immediately served by the bartender. I made an expression to the bartender like«c’mon man!» and he finally served me. The vodka-tonics that he poured were the weakest that I ever tasted, and I suspect he deliberately served them weak to spite me. The DJ was generic and totally forgettable. Overall, Red was a bad experience with a pretentious, condescending staff who treat their guests like intruders — not like guests. I will not be returning.

3.5 stars but rounded up because the décor was pretty & the bartender was nice. We headed upstairs to their lounge which was cute. It was dead since it was late on a Thursday night, but I could see this place be really nice on the weekends. They had a $ 5 stoli special. At one point we had asked for a black & blue(Guinness/Blue Moon) but he accidentally made us the black & blue mixed drink which was actually pretty good. He gave that to us on the house & made us our real black & blue. I hate to sound overly critical, but it’s supposed to be half & half… not ¼ Guinness & ¾ Blue Moon. We asked the female bartender to add more Guinness, which she did with no problems. We order two rolls to nibble on while sipping on our drinks: 1) Monmouth Street Roll(king crab, salmon, sesame, «form roll», creamy sirachi sauce, yuzu aioli) 2) Reckless Place Roll(tempura shrimp, spicy tuna, sesame, kabayaki sauce) — Both rolls looks very pretty but were rather bland and unappealing. I would stick to this place for the lounge area.

I like this place. I really, really like this place. I’ve yet to dine here, save for some sushi samplers during a birthday happy hour in the fall. My excursions here have been mostly for pre or post-dinner drinks. Red has a restaurant area downstairs along with a smaller bar up against the back wall. Upstairs is the lounge area complete with a larger bar. There are tables for dining upstairs as well, but it’s more of a loungey vibe. Red tends to get very crowded on the weekends. I’ve been here on both Friday and Saturday nights and I am not sure which night is worse. That being said, the crowd is always attractive and there is often a good vibe. The last time my friend and I were there, we actually ran into The Boss himself(no, I don’t mean the owner… I mean Bruce Springsteen). She was freaking out but I was relatively unfazed. I know, not very Jersey of me, but what can I say? It was early on a Saturday night(about 7:00PM) and there were only about 20 patrons upstairs at that point. We got to eavesdrop on his conversation while we waited for our reservations at The Bistro across the street. Monumental evening for her! Red has a pretty large bar area, in addition to lots of low tables and chairs around the perimeter as well as in the middle. Soft lighting and black wood… tres chic. They offer a pretty solid variety of fruity drinks and martinis, but what I like best is that they carry my favorite Riesling in the world — Dr. Loosen(or «Dr. L’s»). If you like sweet Rieslings of a German variety, then please try this wine. You’ll love it. If you prefer a more divebar setting, then this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for a swanky place to sip a few cocktails, then step right up.

Red is my favorite place to go for drinks and dancing in downtown Red Bank. Though I’ve never eaten dinner in the main dining area of the restaurant, I’ve had sushi and other appetizers upstairs in the lounge area. I’ve gone here for birthday celebrations or just to go dancing. It’s always a good time! The bartenders are quick, friendly, sweet, and make good drinks. Their deejay on Friday or Saturday nights is great and plays excellent music to get your groove on. You can reserve a table(for a price) or just get there early; there’s plenty of seating available. The restaurant/lounge is modern, clean, and classy. The bathrooms are modern and clean as well, ladies. I can’t wait to go back when the weather’s warmer!

We’ve always had a great time at Red — always. I don’t know what some of the previous reviews were referring to about«expensive and small portions» because we’ve eaten at Red quite a few times and have never ever experienced a small portion(trust me, i would be the first one to bitch and complain about that issue) And I really must say, for being somewhat of a «frugal» person, I really don’t think their prices are all that bad… I would just consider them«pricey». I say this because their food is very delicious and it’s worth the money in my eyes. In response to(some) of the Unilocalers who’ve complained about overly expensive drinks and snotty bouncers(ugh, sigh… i know right) but hey, wake up people, it’s Red Bank! If you want to drink $ 2 miller lights next to a smelly guy in a ripped undershirt listening to Aerosmith then go down to Seaside!
