I’ve been seeing Dr. Mulholland for over a year. Well visits scheduled far in advance have been just fine, but my most recent experience with a sick visit has made me consider changing providers. I called as soon as the office opened at 8AM on a Monday morning to make an appointment, but the doctor was already booked for the day. I tried again on Thursday morning and got the same response, so I made my appointment for a Friday. At my visit, the office was empty and I was seen right away. I described all of my symptoms to my nurse(I’ve had a bad sore throat and earache, and was dealing with two other things), and then provided a urine sample. The nurse did not return, but Dr. Mulholland came in, took a quick glance in my throat and ears, prescribed me an antibiotic for an ear infection(without telling me what medication he prescribed me or how often to take it), and left. He didn’t ask me to re-describe my symptoms to him or ask me what was wrong. He didn’t mention or advise me about either of my other two symptoms. The nurse never took my vitals(temperature, blood pressure, etc.). So, I got medication for an ear infection, which is great. But I’m still worried about my other two symptoms, which the doctor did not address at all. I wasn’t told what would be done with my urine sample, what it was going to be tested for, or whether I should expect a call from them. My advice is to SPEAKUP about what’s wrong, ask questions — even if you have to make a list of them ahead of time, and don’t let the nurse or doctor leave until you feel like all of your concerns have been addressed. The office seemed empty, but I was definitely rushed. Also, the current picture on Unilocal is out of date — the office and building have been redone.

Dr. Mulholland has been my husband and my GP for a couple years now. We really like him. He is easygoing, thorough, articulate, and really listens to you. He isn’t the type of doctor that listens to you for five seconds, hands you an antibiotic and sends you on your merry way. He trusts you as the patient, explains things, and is genuinely compassionate. To top it all off, his academic background is stellar(he attended Georgetown for med school). The office and nurse staff are also really nice and they have always been able to get me in the same day if needed. They are able to explain billing really well. The office hours are also a huge reason why we love this office. There are walk in hours available with NPs in the evening(most of the time until 7pm) and they are open for a few hours on SATURDAYS. I also love that Dr. Mulholland is part of Integrated Medical Alliance, so there are walk in clinics in Shrewsbury and Middletown, which are open throughout the weekend!
