All I can say is WOW! This place went from a falling apart and outdated liquor store to a beautiful and elegant wine shop with very nice selection. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly which helps when looking for a nice gift or just a bottle for dinner. Very happy shopping here!

It is ok. If you know what you want, and you know they have it, go crazy. Had a better variety before the new owners took over. They seem to have started stocking things that I would consider somewhere on the continuum from novelty to gross. Case in point, they had exactly one choice of dessert wine but a whole bunch of chocolate flavored wine type junk. The two people working also seemed to have a very limited knowledge about their stock, much less wine in general.

great little wine shop. they really know what they are doing here. small and boutique like with a great selection of wines from all over the world. also a little cheese case/deli area with great cheese selections. friendly staff. I get their email newsletter too. some cute wine themed gift items are also available. they have small tastings here usually on Saturdays. it usually consists of two reds and two whites with focus on a certain theme or region. right in the center of town, parking right out front, some in back too.

I know beer. Ask me to find you a beer to go with an entrée and I can usually come up with 3 or 4 options. Ask me to select a good wine and you might as well be speaking in tongues. It’s not that I can’t appreciate good wine, I just don’t know how to find it on my own. Enter the staff at the Wine Shop of Reading. Knowledgeable and helpful, they will make recommendations based on their particular favorites in a price range or help you find something specific in whatever price range you like. I owe them a personal debt of gratitude for turning me onto Sauvingon Blancs many years ago(which still is the only style I know anything about.) They also have an exceptional cheese department with the same degree of assistance available for getting that pairing just right. They also have some of the abbey cheeses that will go with beer selections such as Chimay(which they carry in the back of the store, along with some other specialty brews.) Parking out front can be difficult during the day, but with the finished construction of the downtown area it has become much easier to get a spot.

I like this store. I like the selection. I’ve found wines here that other places have been out of — or stuff that’s just harder to find elsewhere. I don’t go here as often as I’d like. Hmmm… note to self: GETMOREWINE.

When I feel like pretending I am a member of the upper middle class(rather than the dirt poor graduate student class), I go here to partake in some delectable goods. This place supplies my needs for expensive aged cheese and gourmet food items, and of course wine. I love the Aged Gouda here, it’s really delicious. I recently decided I wanted to «learn how to drink red wine». So of course I came here for guidance and they were very helpful. This is sort of how the conversation went: Me: I’ve heard that Red Wine is an acquired taste. Employee: Yes, that is true. Me: Great. I’d like to try acquiring that taste. Employee: Oh, super. Let’s start you out with a Spanish wine. Normally when I have that conversation in liquor stores it leads to strange looks from the employees and they sort of shift and don’t really know what to tell me. This is why I decided to go someplace that specializes in the wine culture. I was not disappointed. I am still in the process of my acquisition, but so far my starter wine has treated me well and I don’t hate it. I plan to attend one of their wine tasting events soon so I can learn even more. The staff is helpful and will give you exactly what you ask for.
