I am a «nut» for Hardware stores. Sutherlands has been a presence in the Kansas City Metro area for as long as I can remember and I was very pleased when they made the decision to open a store in the Raytown area about a year ago. This is a well laid out store and has aisles and aisles of merchandise. But after nearly a whole year of making trips to Sutherlands Raytown location, I have to say I have very mixed feelings about shopping there. Here’s why: Since it is so handy, we generally always make it our first stop for items that we need. About half of those trips have ended with us NOT finding the item we are looking for and then we end up somewhere else. For instance, when we needed to replace our ceiling fan/light in the living room we headed there. They had a whole section of fans, and I was convinced that if I just kept looking, I would find one that really suited our needs. But, alas, I did not! I know that I am picky but not hard to please. Unfortunately, the selections were just not to my taste. And that is too bad, because I’d rather give my business to Sutherlands rather than the huge national chains, any day. The same thing has happened to us on several shopping forays — we just cannot find what we are looking for. This is a big store and it is stocked with lots of stuff, but at least half the time it’s not the stuff we are looking for. The Staff is always helpful; they greet us as soon as we come in and happily direct us to the correct department, if we ask. We love their«Fresh Fruit Friday» promotions and were able to find beautiful hanging baskets of healthy, lovely petunias last Spring that were a great value. I am a member of the Friends and Family promotional that is offered and have saved a bit of money here and there because of my participation. But what I’m really saying is: «I wish I could buy more of our hardware needs from your business and only wish that were possible.»
